In the most popular 3D keyboard online game “Tomorrow”, an ordinary player, Zhang Zhiyin has a less common hobby–that is to visit Dr. Y, the ultimate boss – giving him gifts and hugs.
As a game produced NPC, the other side naturally has no response, but Zhang Zhiyin still insisted on visiting him rain or shine for 363 days. Until one day he decided to give up the game, the result was being hit by a car.
Since then, he has been dreaming every night in which he will cross into the realistic world of ‘Tomorrow’ and return to the magical journey of normal life during the day.
“From the moment he fell in love with this person, he had chosen insanity.”
This is a fun mash-up of genres. E-sports crossed with zombie apocalypse. Online MMO and transmigration both. Basically Zhang Zhiyin has spent a few years playing a zombie apocalypse MMO and giving gifts to the final villain in his spare time. After being hit by a car on the day he planned to finally delete the game and stop playing, he transmigrates into the world of the MMO where he is now the only 'player', retaining access to the item store, respawn points, etc. When he "dies", he wakes back up in the real world. From that point on, every time he sleeps in the real world, he wakes up in the MMO world - but time runs differently there and one night in the real world can be months in the game world before he switches back again.
Lots of fun adventures and mysteries since the MMO world he visits is 5 - 10 years prior to the game MMO's timeline, so many of his initial trials take place in the 'history' of the MMO which no one but the devs and writing staff are meant to know the truths of, such as the villainous sides of supposedly heroic NPCs. He picks up an adorable kitten pet (I love anything with cats, okay). The final boss playing two roles, one on humanity's side and one on the zombies' side, and occasionally disguises himself as someone else and then grows jealous of the fake 'himself'. And of course the game MMO changes hands and starts undergoing maintenance periods that lock Zhang Zhiyin out of the item store and using his cheat items, etc.
It's a lot of fun. And while the romance is definitely a large motivation for Zhang Zhiyin and the big boss, it's really more of a minor sideplot in terms of the novel's focus. Much more time is given to the fighting, to showing the game's system and how that would work in a more 'real world' non-game scenario, to developing teams and politics in the dream MMO world, etc. And a very respectful and consenting relationship, thank you, I'm always so surprised and pleased whenever this pops up in Chinese novels . I also like the added realistic detail to the relationship troubles
Can feel like a long read at times, due to so info regarding the various systems, cities, political/character backgrounds, etc. that have to be introduced every city or time jump - and it's done quite well, don't get me wrong, it's not info-dump by any means. Just not as fast as a read as some fluffier novels or novels that just keep the same one setting and a constant steady stream of time.
Overall, I really enjoyed it. Not one of my utter favourites, but definitely in the upper echelon of translated Chinese novels with some of the least problematic elements (I'd say maybe the only issue is a lack of female characters, especially female characters that matter).
Rating: 4 stars. Excellent genre mashup that avoids common problematic elements of many Chinese online novels. A very refreshing, though not always easy/fast, read.
It was cute, but at one point of the novel it got boring and I honestly thought about dropping it. There were many things left without explanations but it was a cute story overall.
This was a pity... Started off interesting and charming, but began to meander around the 60% mark and never seemed to regain its focus. Some things were left unresolved at the end, and it's not a trivial thing either, so it's bizarre that it's left unanswered.
Around the 60% mark ML came clean to MC regarding what's been happening, which was good... But then they settled into blissful domestic life, while the 'people' in the game world were still facing a crisis. The change in pace felt rather jarring.
External forces discovered that ML created a substance that could zombify living being, and used it as a justification to destroy ML. None of this revelation amounted to anything, since ML got 'destroyed' by himself and not by the external party. The external party also made a fuss about how dangerous the substance is, making it sound like they're 1 step away from the start of a zombie apocalypse, and about how they needed to revive the ML to destroy the substance... Using it as a reason to ask MC to try to bring back ML. MC succeeded, then this topic was never revisited again. Until the very end, there's no mention about whether they managed to get this dangerous substance under control.
MC and ML as characters were quite interesting, and the concept was pretty unusual, but the potential was wasted due to the loose plot.
The romance was OK, rather standard, but it felt like there wasn't enough sugar to go around. Once MC and ML got together the vibe felt more like "family" rather than "lovers", but that's also another type of affection so it still worked out.
I'm just a bit sad since I had high hopes for this...

It was pretty confusing at first, but it gets better. It took a long time before the story started to progress steadily. Zhang Zhuyin is so relatable because although I have friends, I still dedicate my everything to my love for fictional characters. It's my first time reading this kind of story, and I was really shocked because I never thought that the other character would be an artificial intelligence. I felt so betrayed at first because I was expecting that someone else was just manually controlling that game character. I got used to it and eventually came to love him as he is. It has so much impact on the story, and the kind of love they have is fascinating and genuinely unfathomable.
However, one part seems so romantically dark, or maybe it's just me. And I still have questions over that, one of which is, "Will Zhang Zhuyin's be considered an artificial intelligence as well who possess immortality similar to the kind of thing Yin Nian is?" There were a lot of confusing and frustrating parts (parts that made me want to insert myself into the story and lecture them because they're so needlessly blind), but I enjoyed it. The other characters did not leave a mark on me, so there is nothing much that I can say, but I hate that guy Dayi with all of my being, thank God for his redemption arc.
This book got me out of a bit of a reading slump in the month of July. I just kept starting books I didn’t want to finish. But I enjoyed this one more than I expected I would! The last 25% of the story lost me a little bit at times, but the first half is funny and easy to follow, and I enjoyed the story.
Sinceramente?
unique take on transmigration that was well executed (basically the equivalent of experiencing it as a part time gig). The romance was tasteful and not overdone.
