This one made me want to roll my eyes a bit too much. I guess it just seems like a strong brand of spoiled privilege (or maybe just foolishness?) to throw yourself on the edge of death day in and day out and then get really shocked and upset when you have a serious injury.
What did you think would happen when your whole life is built on extreme risks solely for the purpose of entertainment? You’re really going to take for granted your supposed invincibility? Seems like you should just be grateful you made it out with your life. Normally I would be more compassionate on a matter of a serious injury and how upsetting it would be, but living your life that way all to put on a show really seems to be inviting this to happen. Mingling it with faith also seemed weird. Can’t help but think of Satan trying to get Christ to jump off a cliff and His response.
Anyway and then his reaction in his relationship was also eye-roll worthy as it went beyond noble idiocy. I don’t know. I guess I should just chalk it all up to his lack of wisdom. He bound up all his identity in doing stunts for the crowd, blithely believed he was invincible so he had no plan B or other life interests to turn to if something happened(which was always a clear probability, along with death of course, but no big deal he’s a golden boy who can’t be hurt). So naturally(?) he felt like he didn’t have anything to offer her post injury. As if that was what she wanted out of him.

I’m sorry to be critical. It makes me feel mean. I was just frustrated.
So I also want to say that if you can look past those things, if those issues won’t be ones that would bother you, you’d probably enjoy this. It’s a cute story.

Pearl and Jex

Pearl is Jex Jex Steele's manager and always makes sure the extreme sports he does are as safe as possible! Every time for the last 6 month's they have been doing a little ritual. He asks her if she is ready to shorten her last name and for a kiss and she gives him the same answer in some form, not today, maybe tomorrow. The fans eat it up! Then something changes. What is it? What happens? Only one way to find out, read this great story by Cami Checketts! You will love the Steele brothers!

Pearl was Jex's manager. Jex was into extreme sports. He did many dangerous stunts.

There was a huge following because of the daring events. Before every new sport, Jex and Pearl would tease each other about Pearl changing her name to Steele. And Jex would hint at a good luck kiss. This went on until these two grew to love each other.

Just when the romance began to heat up, Jex was seriously injured. His ego and confidence plummeted and Pearl was at a loss as to how to help Jex recover.

Finally, Jex's family did an intervention. Jex found new hope and renewed his faith in God.

Sweet Romance

Jex is an extreme stuntman with a huge following and Pearl is his best friend/financial person. They’re totally both in love with each other, but just flirt in public. Then a not-so-dangerous stunt leaves him broken. This was a part I hurried through, since depression is not fun to read about. I loved when Lottie, Preston, and Ally showed up! I want Lottie to have her own story!

So fun to get back to the Steele family and read Jex's story. Once again Lottie with her sweet optimism is the one to teach lessons of love and resilience to the others. Pearl is perfect for Jex. I enjoyed watching the two interact. Now I just need to go back and catch Gunner's story. Such a great family!

I just love Lottie and her eternal love and optimism. Jex and Pearl have loved each other for years. They both have many different things to deal with in this story. Jex is so steeped in his depression, anxiety and pride that he can’t find any self-worth. This is a very emotional story that I really enjoyed reading.

I have not read the other books in the Steele Family Series. However, the characters in this book are strong enough to stand alone. This book brought a lot of emotion. Jex and Pearl have a very interesting relationship. An enjoyable read!

Another great book from Cami

This is a great book that shows how many people think because they are famous that everyone will actually make bad comments about their injuries and that they have no value in life. When you turn back to God things will work out for you.

A Little Tiring

The beginning was pretty interesting and the ending was sweet but three fourths of the book bogged down with too much self-loathing, to the point of boredom. Luckily I have read enough of this author's books that I will give other works of hers a try.

This is a pretty heavy story. The end was a little “poof” here we are but it was basically a good story.

I thought it was a very entertaining storyline until Jex had his injuries… then it had way too many episodes of self pity and “woe-is-me” drama.

Grand Steele finale

We finally get to Jex and his beautiful assistant, Pearl. Jex is an extreme sportsman with a huge YouTube following and sponsors. Pearl has been working with him for years and their flirtations and teasing have become a fun prelude to each stunt they film. Unspoken is how much they each care for the other. Sadly, life isn't always sunshine and laughter and challenges come. This story has no bad guys but how people sometimes (often) struggle when hard things come, shows that even the strong have weaknesses but reading Jex's struggles and how his family helps, especially sweet Lottie who helps him see that he's being a tater tot and a dum dum and then helps him fix it. I loved this last of the Steele brothers and can't wait to see what Cami will be writing next!

Jex Steele was an extreme sports star. His manager was Pearl Jacobsen-Davenport. Jex was in love with Pearl and he loved to flirt with her and ask her when she was going to let him change her name. It was all a show for his fans, or so Pearl thought. She had loved him for years but could he really be in love with her? She was so afraid to admit that she loved him because she was so afraid that one day he would die from one of his outrageous stunts. When they finally admitted their love was real, the thing she feared the most happened, his stunt ended in tragedy. Could their newly declared love survive such a devastating blow? Was it possible for a happy ending?

I borrowed this book from the Kindle Lender's Library and thoroughly enjoyed the story. It was a clean, romantic story of true love and devotion, extreme devotion, even in the midst of great adversity and trial.

Extreme sports. Extreme stunts. Extreme devotion.

Oh! Jex! I love his sense of humor. I like that he got sucked into feelings of depression and worthlessness. It made him so real. I hope it could nudge someone who was in a similar state to get help. I love Pearl. I like that she loved with all her heart and was loyal. But also that she had enough self worth to demand an explanation and apology. And maybe she can change her too-long last name. This book is an emotional roller coaster. I laughed and I cried, sometimes on the same page.

When life takes an unexpected turn

Pearl and Jex have been skirting their feeling for each other for many years. Until this one week they can’t hold their feelings back anymore. She confides in him that she is scared to loose him with his extreme sports and he brushes it off. The next day he is badly hurt. But due to his injury he pushes her away. Will they ever get to where they were or has he lost more than just his career.

A good read, with all the feels. Cute couple, their banter at the beginning is really sweet too.

Wow ! What a book ! This one much more than just a happily ever after story. It’s what most of us want to escape from days and it’s called life. A man who has everything is hurt and discovers that when he is at his lowest God is at his best. Supported by a loving family and a beautiful sister named Lottie. Reading this book will make you see things from a different perspective and realize how God how be that in your life.

This is an amazing book. It is a heartwarming, tear-jerker with a lot of love. I LOVE the fact that his sister tells him what's what. I love that. I love how it shows you can be broken physically and heal from that physicality, mentally. My dad was in a wheelchair and you'd never know it if you were sitting next to him. I'm so glad he didn't slide into a depression, like so many do. I just love and connected with this book and story on a deep level. Great job Cami!

Clean romantic drama

This had a lot of drama to the story. Some heart wrenching drama due to the nature of Jex’s job and the risks involved. Before they can really be together Jex and Pearl go thru some tuff times. There is humor and love shown throughout this challenging situation they find themselves in. For me it was more drama than what I like to read, but the story was positive and it ended well. Rating: PG, Clean romantic drama

Last Steele brother

I have so enjoyed this series. Lottie has been the highlight of every book. She loves “her boys” and they love her, but this last one she wasn’t going to let Jex continue pitying himself. If you haven’t read this series do so!! Cami is one of my favorite authors.

I love the way Cami Checketts thinks and writes. This story, like her others that I read, are not just a fun read, but are written with invigorating vocabulary, intricate characters and engaging plots. What more can you ask for? I have been too cheap to pay for Unlimited, but at the rate I’m reading her books, it will be a deal!
