Holly knows something's not right about her life, but she can't figure out what it is. Where did it all go wrong? She has a job she enjoys in Bramblewick's surgery, friends she's known and loved for years, a surrogate grandmother in her next-door neighbour, Lulu, and a boyfriend she adores.
Yet Holly's become increasingly unhappy and confused. So much about her life no longer makes sense, and she's uncertain who she can trust. Are her friends really on her side? Is she still capable of carrying out her job to satisfactory standards? Why does she keep messing things up with Jonathan, the boyfriend who puts up with more than anyone else ever would?
With two weddings to attend and Christmas rapidly approaching, all Holly wants is peace, calm, and an end to the confusion; instead she finds herself facing an impossible choice that makes her worries about being the only fat bridesmaid seem irrelevant. How can she decide between the two people she loves most in the world?
Then there's Lewis ... Newly arrived in the village, calm, easy-going and straightforward, his only vice appears to be his addiction to pear drops. Through him, Holly realises she's been losing a war she had no idea she was fighting. Can she muster the strength for one final battle?
Maybe all she needs is a little help from her friends …
Oh no! Book 6 and it's the end of the series. Sad face. But what a series it has been. I've loved every book although every time I read a new one, I think it might just have nudged its way into being my new favourite. This time Holly takes centre stage. She works on reception at the GP practice in Bramblewick and has featured in several of the previous books as a minor character so I already knew a little about her but it was great to really get to know her. She adores her boyfriend, Jonathan, and is so appreciative of him putting up with her when she's so forgetful and continually messing things up. Who else would put up with a girlfriend like that? But is Jonathan really the catch she thinks he is? I loved the theme of this book but I won't give spoilers by saying what it is. It's refreshing to read about something that is probably much more common than we think, yet doesn't often get explored. It certainly opened my eyes to a few things and kept me rooting for Holly to take the path that was right for her. I can't recommend this series enough. In theory, you could read the books in any order but I would start from book 1, sink into the sofa, and let the series unfold in order because, whilst there's a different character as the focus of each book, we catch up on the lives of previous main characters as the series develops and it's lovely catching up with old friends. All Sharon's books are written with such warmth and humour, as well as being full of engaging characters who you can relate to so easily. Hoping there's another equally-fabulous series on the way. Thank you many hours of reading pleasure!
Sharon Booth has done it again and has produced so much more than a romantic story. I was compelled to read it in two days and never have I wanted to punch a fictional character in the face so much! Yet again she treats a very delicate topic with uttermost depth and respect, giving the willing reader different layers of understanding and many a reading path. This brilliant final chapter of the Bramblewick series as usual can be read a a standalone (although how you may not want to read all the other books in the series?). A useful list of characters is provided at the beginning of the story just to recap without spoilers. A gem of a book!
I love this series of books and this one did not disappoint! You just drop back into everyone's lives and pick up where you left off more or less but from the angle of someone else's life. I seriously couldn't put it down and finally finished at 1.50am! It left me thinking....NO! I NEED MORE! Sharon tells a truly great story and keeps you hooked.
Another good read a book that keeps wanting to keep reading until the last page they are gripping i must know what is on the next page which turns into the next chapter.
Another cracking book and sadly the last in the Bramblewick series. Another very tricky subject write about but as always Sharon deals with it impeccably.
I loved reading this book the sixth in the series, catching up with friends from the previous books and meeting new friends. Poor Holly was not happy but couldn't understand why, she lives in a knife edge with her boyfriend Jonathan. Fortunately her friends understood what was happening.
