By the time Elizabeth assumed the English throne in 1558, war, religious turmoil, and disastrous finances had weakened the nation. By the end of her reign forty-five years later, England was rich and secure, enjoying its growing role as a world leader. Readers will learn how during her tenure, England destroyed the feared Spanish Armada, experienced the flourishing of great literature, and witnessed great social and economic reform that shaped the future of the nation for more than 2 years
Admittedly it is a difficult task to adequately cover the fascinating life and times of Elizabeth I. This graphic novel presentation is more or less an overview and covers much in a small format. Shone’s book serves well as an introduction to this venerable British monarch.
It might be because I'm not that fond of the subject matter but to me this book was just so boring and badly drawn that I don't see anyone enjoying the read. The cover artwork alone should be enough to scare off possible readers. I'd just pass this one by.
Meh. This is definitely not a great graphic novel, but I can see the appeal to reluctant readers. Most of the material covered here is also discussed in the picture book Good Queen Bess, which is far superior.
