Even in a world of illusion, crashing is fatal. How will she find reality in time to survive?

While scientists worry over mysterious seismic events, Leelyn flies to the surface of a pristine world. A few tremors can’t scare her away.

Her sampling mission should be quick and easy, but these quakes are nothing like those of Earth. What is that strange wavering pattern, and why has her communication system failed? Is this planet really uninhabited?

When Leelyn takes to the air again, her instruments shift before her eyes and the view outside can’t be trusted either. She’ll never survive unless she can pick out reality from the conflicting illusions produced by both friend and foe.

If you love aliens, excitement, and tough decisions, this stand-alone short story is for you. It’s available only to my newsletter subscribers. Enjoy!

What’s in a name?

Way more than I expected. As in, more people. Of course, I knew I was not the only Sharon Rose in the world, but it turns out that some of them are authors, too. I’m the Sharon Rose who writes science fiction and fantasy for those who prefer a cleaner read.

Short story that takes place, (I think) in the Diverse similarity universe. This story is completely stand alone. If you have never read anything else by Sharon Rose then this is actually a good place to start. Convenient then that she is giving it away for free by signing up for her newsletter.

I don't know what to say about it, since it is so short. I found the most interesting feature of this story to be the deception that keeps the main character from trusting her own eyes. Leelyn must decide if the illusions are caused by her weird little stowaway, or are they caused by another force altogether. I can very much relate to Leelyn as I too tend to trust my own judgment over the word of others and I too feel suspicious of strangers motives. Also Leelyn is a very good name.

**** SPOILER ALERT ****
In "Flying Blind" Rose quickly draws the reader into the world the story is set in. The author does a great job of world building as they masterfully develop the characters in a, very, very short space. Less than thirty pages.
The big question that I had was "Why is the planet empty?"
I strongly urge you, my fellow readers, to pick up more of Rose's writing. I think you'll be glad that you did.
I am voluntarily sharing this review.
It is my own honest opinion.

This is a very short story. None the less it is packed with action and intrigue. The main character can't believe what she is seeing. Is the little creature with her causing it? Or is something in the planet causing it (as the little creature claims)?

A very good introduction to the writing style of Sharon Rose.

This is a small book but the intensity got big as Leelyn struggled to maintain control of her ship and her thoughts. Oh and it includes some interesting alien life too!
I’ve never read any of Sharon’s full-length books but I am interested in trying them out now. She’s giving Flying Blind free to new subscribers to her newsletter.

I loved how this book built up the theme of "team, tribe, or family" as critical to survival. Short, sweet, and to the point, I highly recommend it!

Awesome read though it could've gone a little further regarding returning to ship and what became of Humuha.
