British amateur bakers must turn out the perfect scone in this week’s filming of The Great British Baking Contest.
But fledgling witch Poppy is losing her concentration as she gets closer to discovering more of her own history at Broomewode Hall, a postcard pretty manor house in Somerset, England. However, someone is warning her to leave as she’s in danger.
Can she keep her cool while solving mysteries, working on her witch skills, and still turn out a decent scone?
Taste this culinary cozy mystery series from USA Today Bestselling author Nancy Warren. Each book is a stand-alone mystery, though the books are linked. They offer good, clean fun, and, naturally, recipes.

Poppy's back in the tent for round 3 of the baking competition, but she is so distracted with her search for family answers and what happened to a local that she just can't concentrate. This just might be the end of the road for Poppy's baking dreams! The characters are so realistic and loveable that you can't wait for the next book and you won't want to put these down. I have both read and listened to the first two and now read the the third and am thoroughly hooked on this series and the characters. It's like visiting new friends each time that you can't wait to see! The plot for each book is so well woven and interlayered with storylines from several characters to really round each book out and make it so much more satisfying. I seriously can't wait to see what happens in the next book and in Poppy's search for her family history.
A Rolling Scone is Book 3 in the Great Witches Baking Show series by Nancy Warren. I absolutely love this series.
Poppy is on round three of the baking competition and she has to make the best scone she possibly can! But she is a bit distracted with a threatening note she received. She also has her hands full trying to find out what happened to her mom.
The characters are intriguing, engaging and complex.
The story is filled with mystery, magic, suspense and food!
A wonderful combination. I cannot wait for the next installment!
Characters were again likable, and there were some new characters / there was new information about some familiar ones. As usual the atmosphere was cozy and the setting was beautiful.
There was some new information about Poppy's past but at this point I start to wonder how big mystery that is to make it reasonable to reveal this slowly. And I don't think her being a witch adds much to the story.
This was pretty similar than the previous books but somehow more enjoyable: characters, setting etc. were familiar and it was easy to dive into the story.
I'm really enjoying this series. We are getting to know the characters a little more with each book. And with each book the mysteries get more edgy and harder to solve. I'm looking forward to hearing more about poppy's parents too.
A good third installment in this series. There was finally a little more of a hint at Poppy's possible mother, but hopefully the next books will fill it out more - I want to know who she is and why she gave her up the way she did. Also love to know who the father is, though I have my suspicions.
As for the murder mystery, it was interesting.
I'm enjoying this series and planning on reading the next one very soon.
"To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body but the soul"
In this, the third of the series, Poppy Wilkinson is still in the running for "The Great British Baking Show", and the book sits at the start of the new week of taping on the grounds of the home that Poppy may have connections to personally. She's warned to beware by a note she receives and as she gathers her stuff to return to the set so she's a bit nervous. She's got the recipes for this week down but her focus is scattered.
Turns out the gift shop manager remembers the time when Poppy's assumed birth mother worked at the House and Eileen invites her to visit so she can share pictures of the time. However, when Poppy gets there later in the day, the woman seems different, distracted. She dies at the shoppe the next day and of course, Poppy is in the middle of a third death in as many weeks, much to the consternation of the local police. Eileen may have had a long term heart issue but she should not have died that way. Can Poppy find all the pieces to the puzzle? Who will be sent home this week? Do white chocolate and ginger pair well in a scone? Give this a read and find out! Recommended 4/5
[disclaimer: I received this book from the author. I voluntarily chose to read and review it]
Poppy Wilkinson is starting her third week of competition on the wildly popular Great British Baking Show. Poppy is a great baker, but her main reason for competing on the Show is the search for her birth mother. The only clue she has is the handmade blanket that was wrapped around her when she was found abandoned on the doorstep of a bakery. The blanket looks exactly like a shawl in a portrait in Broomwold manor, the site of the Baking show.
Poppy and her friends are once again challenged to bake wonderful creations under great pressure. Unfortunately, Poppy has stumbled upon another dead body, so her focus is mostly on finding the murderer. Will Poppy be able to rise to the baking challenges and remain on the Show? Will she be able to find the murderer? Will her newly found witchy skills help her in any way?
This is a fun and entertaining series and would be perfect for those who love baking shows and cozy mysteries with a hint of the paranormal. I enjoy the inclusion of Gato, Poppy's cat/familiar, and Sly, a resident Border Collie. I also enjoy Poppy's interaction with her friend, Jerry, who is now a ghost in residence at the local pub. The characters are well-developed, the story moves at a fast pace and the book is well-written.
The narrator does a great job with her different voices/accents and her performance makes this an even better book. I was given the chance to listen to this audiobook by the author/narrator/publisher and chose to review it.
A Rolling Scone by Nancy Warren a tasty five-star read. This is number three in the Great Witches Baking show series, they are stand-alone as each novel focuses on a different episode of the show and a different mystery with an underlying current. Poor Poppy has her work cut out for her in more ways that one this episode, lets hope a Bundt Instrument brings a better taste to her week. I find Poppy to be a great character and I really like Gateau, she seems to have her wits about her and I suspect knows more than we do about what will happen in the future. This is a fun series and each mystery just adds a little something extra to the story, I love the whodunnit aspect, and its done well and in a manner that I cant see it until the last moment, and I am usually the worst at saying in the first few pages they did it without even knowing and it turns out true, so a massive plus from me.
Poppy is back in A Rolling Scone and still learning more of her past. I love watching Poppy grow as a witch and sleuth along side as a baker in the Great Witches Baking Show. She maybe slipping down in the ranks but there is always a distraction of something to solve. Poppy does what she does best with a little help of magic and of course the ever pesky Gerry. I can't wait to see what is in stored next for Poppy to bake and her next mystery to solve. I love this series.
Fire up the ovens The danger and excitement continue with this newest take on reality TV. I am really enjoying how each book is another week on the baking contest with new recipes and new mysteries revealed. Poppy always seems to find her way to where the action is, and I love what the author is doing with her character. With each book I feel like I am more embroiled in her life and more concerned about the outcome of Poppy discovering her own history. The author is really doing a wonderful job with this series and I can’t wait to see what Poppy finds out next.
This series is amazing!!! So quirky, full of mystery, with a dash of supernatural thrown in. I loved following Poppy on her journey and I can't wait for the next book in the series!
Technically this book can be read as a stand alone, however it is a little easier to follow the story line and the mystery if you have read the other books in the series.
This is book 3 in the series. This one really reminded me of classic Miss Marple or Murder She Wrote. I loved the twists and turns and characters. I wish the main characters magic and witchy skills were more prevalent I the story though.
A tantalising mystery full of emaggentive and flamboyant baked goodies. Tender, enticing ,carreing, intreageing and vibrant caracters that draw you in the world of tv bake shows, witches and mystery's. Poor Poppy wants to find her family heritage but the town she is surching in carries more than one mystery, will Poppy ever find the truth in her quest. Aquier a copy of "A Rolling Scone "so you yourself can enjoy reading it as much as I have. 🙄🤔😏☺Kat
The third book in the series and it is time to bake scones.
Easier said than done when everyone tell you their recipes and you are also trying to solve the mystery of your family history and there is a death in the village.
Reading these book always make me hungry and reading about Poopy’s adventures always make me laugh. It is something much needed during a worldwide pandemic.
Poppy is off to the 3rd weekend of the baking contest. It looks like her hands will be full this weekend. First there’s the threatening note, then work on finding her mother, and of course there’s baking the winning scone. Enjoy the wonderful characters and great story. Who knew the judges were witches?
This is another delightful entry in this cozy mystery series. Poppy is such a wonderful character! She is unique and I just love her. The well written storyline offers up an entertaining and engaging blend of mystery, drama, suspense, magic, heart and glimmers of humor. So fun!! Can't wait for book four. I am posting a candid review of my own accord.
This is the third book in the Great Witches Baking show series and it’s just as great as the first two. It’s the third baking contest and Poppy needs to bake up her best scone, then she gets a threatening note. I just love Poppy’s character. I loved the mystery, suspense, magic, and all the characters. A wonderful read and I can’t wait for the next book.
I am flying through this series because I love the setting and the whole baking competition thing. However, the mystery was weak in this one; it didn’t happen until later in the story and it barely registered for me. I was more interested, as I have been since the first one, on Poppy’s finding her family and there is definitely some movement on that front in this one. Ready for the next one!
I think these might actually be better if they were just cozy Bake Off mysteries instead of adding in the witchy element. Mainly because there's not a lot of witch plot, outside of Poppy occasionally mentioning her new coven 'sisters'.
That aside, I actually really like the characters and think this is a good mystery series. It just feels like trying to put a couple different stories into one and they don't necessarily fit together. You could almost completely take out all the witch stuff and the story wouldn't really be affected.
A ROLLING SCONE by Nancy Warren The Third Great Witches Baking Show Mystery
It's week three at The Great British Baking Contest and everyone and his brother is giving Poppy Wilkinson their recipe for the perfect scone. But Poppy has more than baking on her mind. She's finally making progress in finding more about her family when Eileen, from the gift shop, shows her some old photographs. But before she can learn more, the elderly woman dies. Although she was in her eighties and had heart issues, Poppy believes her death to be murder. Will she be able to solve the crime while investigating her link to Broomewode Hall all while baking well enough to remain in the competition?
As a huge fan of The Great British Bake Off I absolutely love this witchy tribute. I feel the anxiety from the bakers as well as their camaraderie and the delight in being given a behind the scenes look. And that just has to do with the contest portion of the book, there's also Poppy's ongoing search into her heritage, and the weekly mystery! Each aspect is handled deftly, with no one outweighing or outshining the others.
In this third Great Witches Baking Show Mystery we get more insight into Poppy's background as she gains greater access into Broomewode Hall. I like how an old photo leads Poppy closer to discovering more about her mother and new friendships bring her closer to her truth. The murder itself was unique and surprising as its full story unfolded. I love Poppy's ability to find clues and detect murder, but I hope she can get her head back in the game and bake better in the upcoming week.
A ROLLING SCONE is a delectable mystery with great characters, delicious food, and a dollop of murder.
This is my second time listening to the audiobooks of this series and it is such a cosy yet engaging mystery series. Combining the best parts of Bake Off tv, with magic and characters meeting unfortunate circumstances, this is a perfect comfort read.
Once again, I enjoy these books but they lack something that the vampire knitting club ones have and I’m not sure if it’s just I like knitting more or if it’s actually the story. Whatever it is I find these enjoyable but not really memorable. It’s good. It’s entertaining. But I leave it at that.
