I don’t know how to feel about this book. I don’t hate it but I definitely don’t like it.
I get the impression that the author was attempting to portray a strong female lead but she really didn’t come off that way; she just seems like an idiot. Her “defiance” was lackluster and her decision making skills, poor. She was just so... lame. Let’s not get me started about the male leads. They were dreadfully boring. There was no little oomp to the story at all. My only reason for finishing the book is that I generally cannot start a story without finishing it or I will be left wondering what happened until I find out. The bitchy mean girls clique was shit. The “authority figures”, shit. I mean helloooooo, who the fuck watches students engage in a sexual encounter and bloody comments like a fucking narrator. Kmt, wtf kinda shit is that! On top of that, her roommates were a set of blasted fucktards with not a lick of sense. She put up with them for far longer than any person in a situation like that would. The more I think about it and the more I type is the more I feel like this book was absolute rubbish.

I wanted to like this, genuinely.

BUT. And it’s a hard but.

This book felt like reading a really long blurb. I didn’t know the motivations of ANY characters, and many were flat and lacked depth—it was very difficult to feel any empathy for anyone in the book, especially the FMC, as she regularly makes the dumbest decisions known to man.

Eventually, she needs protection, as one does at a school where you are essentially a bait animal. A hot vampire wants her blood (this is where I expect the MC to suspend her disbelief and pull the ever-incandescent “fuck it.”)

INSTEAD, she offers to be a sex slave??? I—that’s not the trade I would have made.

The boys are random??? They absolutely hated her. HATED HER, and fairly. She literally keeps trying to murder them, for undeserved reasons. This book should have ended on page 90 when someone decides this girl just ain’t worth the trouble.

The MC attempts to project this image of (very poorly thought out) bad-assery. She’s not a badass. More of a 10 yo pretending to be hard.
Anyways, my main and biggest issue with this book pushed me all the way over the edge. The WHOLE time she is just thinking of, and trying to her back to her family.
She finds out they’re dead, and have long been dead.

So she becomes a bad bitch and plots revenge.

JK! She literally asks one of her new pseudo boyfriends to ERASE THE KNOWLEDGE OF HOW THEY DIED FROM HER MEMORY!!!!!! And that, my friends, is when the black hole of this book ate my ass up and spit my ass out.

There were a lot of issues with consent and agency in this book. To be fair, I bought book 2 and read half of it, hoping she would become the forged in fire sort of MC I love.

Tell me if she does! I sure as hell don’t know, and I have zero intention of finding out.

Garbage

Horribly written and I don’t know where to start. This book was pretty confusing, starting with the beginning. So two girls were abducted and one of them zarah, was super weak and pitiful and then they get to this academy and she’s still pitiful and the female lead is all aghast by her actions (kissing the guys feet and becoming a blood whore to the mean girls) and the female lead feels some allegiance to this girl? She barely knows her... and she’s referring to her as her friend? 🧐🧐🧐 when did they ever develop a friendship? There wasn’t a time. This chick was broken upon arrival, they’ve had no meaningful conversations or moments. This was poorly developed, especially because it’s like why is the lead so driven to care?

Then the whole she’s getting spanked and assaulted (but because she’s turned on it’s okay ? 🧐) in front a very large group of men ( and it sounded like half of them were old and perverted 🤮) idk it was a really cringe worthy scene.

Don’t even get me started on the guy gage (not even sure that’s his name) he gets sexually assaulted by the mean girl squad... idk just distasteful with no warnings.

This is the top layer and I’ve not even gone in depth. This was just such a dumb book and poorly written, I just don’t know. And then it’s like there’s so much backstabbing and the lead female isn’t anything special or powerful so it’s just such a crapshoot

Problematic.

I want to put out there at 50% I started to skip large sections of the book- I found on the last page I basically missed nothing.

Review will contain spoilers.

Where to start; interesting premise to a story with really problematic ways to tell it. MC is 17 years old... basically a child who makes extremely childish decisions throughout the story. Zarah the other female character is extremely flat. No personality, I don’t feel sorry for her, and it’s too convenient she is so subservient. It’s also too convenient that Alicia seems to be the only one that is “not like the others”. She keeps making mistakes that make no sense (including The Whole Dante/Raphael fiasco). It was too stupid to live moments that had me rolling my eyes and wishing “pig tails” would succeed- on another note who wears the same hairstyle everyday?? The fact pigtails died:
/how she died is equally dumb and was too abrupt.

The sexual innuendo and rape of minors (Gates) is equally disturbing. I’m not saying 17 year olds don’t have sex but the spanking scene and Gates scene was disturbing. Maybe bully romance isn’t for me- but core clenching and nipple tingling from a 17 year old for an abuser who has done nothing but abuse the main makes zero sense.

Eh, not sure what to think of this, I really wanted to like this better, and I am not saying I didn't like it, I think I need to read more of it. I don't know if it was hard for my brain to switch to paranormal or what, I am thinking so. I for sure want to read more and hopefully will fully enjoy this series.

*Spoiler Alert*
What should have been a fun night out her friend ends up with Alicia (the MFC) being kidnapped and then enrolled into The Sanguine Academy. Not a school that she really wants to be a student at because the students are being trained to become consults amongst other things for Vampires. With no other choice but to confirm to the rules of the School (even though she tries everything she can not too) Alicia tries her best to also plan an escape and to stay alive. Except shes come to the attention of the Vampire equivalent of the mean girls and a group of elitist boys - Dante, Raphael and Nero. Not exactly the best thing for her welfare. Alicia is a brilliant character. Fill of wit, fire and backbone. As for the guys well i haven't made my mind up about them yet but in this book they're a bit a***holish, lol. Still a fantastic read though and im hoping the next book doesn't take too long before it comes out

So first off I am so glad I found this book. Right from the first chapter we get action action action.
I love the whole different concept they have in this book about vampires.
Right now the brother I like best is Raphael but I can’t wait to get to know Dante better and what secret he is hiding. The third brother is Nero and I’m not sure about him yet he kind of seems aloof but who knows especially at the end he turned into a blackmailing vampire. I can’t wait to find out how it all ends up though.
As for Alicia I love her as a MC she is a take no BS from anyone and she stands up for herself no matter the situation but she cares about her friends and family and that is important.

See, this is what happens when you start adding random books to your kindle library based on genre without reading the synopsis. I found this book among the horde of other paranormal academy RH books. Now I'll state this before I even start the review, I deeply dislike bully romances. Especially reverse harem ones (cause there are more than one bully which is just worse).
I mean I still hate the guy that called me a tomboy because of my short hair back in middle school (and that guy was good looking and very infamous among girls). There is nothing charming about a guy who is an a**hole to anyone regardless of his reasons. Bullies are cowards. Guys who bully girls are gutless trash.
That being said this book was not that bad (aside from all the bullying). The only thing I liked about was the fact it was not all stars and sunshine. Like if vampires existed they won't be like Edward, you know suffering in silence and sh*t. They'll be ruthless, treat humans like food, and always get what they want without any consequences.
The FMC had a fighting spirit, I'll give her that, but made really stupid decisions. In the first few chapters itself I was gritting my teeth yelling "stupid" at my screen to make her stop. She reminded me of those moronic characters in horror movies who'll hear a sound and go to check it out and then die because of their sheer stupidity. If you wanna escape something stronger and faster than you, you don't keep trying to run away or broadcast your intentions to the whole crowd. You form a plan, bid your time and then sneak away quietly (atleast that's how I snuck out of college to chill with my friends). I did like how her mind worked and by the end got kinda excited as to what'll unfold (meaning I'll be reading the next book).
The 3 MMCs were just Meh. I just felt like they picked up a handbook of 'how to be a bully' and followed it. You know the usual condescending looks, hurtful comments, ordering people around to do their bidding and strangulation (cause they are vampires). Raphael was Mr. I-don't-act-like-one-but-am-an-a**hole, Nero was an aggressive a**hole and Dante was an arrogant a**hole.
The bitch squad or in this case the coven of bitches was the same. Don't challenge me, Don't touch my man, Don't get in my way blah blah. The bitch leader's death was pretty satisfactory so I'll let it pass.
All in all it's not a bad book considering that I dislike the genre so if you do like such books then go for it.

Different vampire book with a heap of awesomeness

What an interesting take on a vampire book. I loved the different ideas brought into this book by Sofia. And RH was perfect. The scenes were entertaining and had some hot hot scenes. I enjoyed the characters and dynamics of a vampire and human academy. Well done and I really can't wait for book 2!

This may not the best book Ive ever read, but I don’t care one bit. I loved it! Maybe if I was feeling more sensible I would’ve contemplated some of the less logical choices by the FMC and maybe the fact there’s a cliché mean girl group (which normally makes me run far away from any novel). But something about Captured just made me feel right to read it.

At this point I don’t even care if there was a plot hole or that the harem members felt a little lack-lustre, it was fun to read and the background was amazing! I loved the concepts behind the frumrosi (basically the humans who ‘willingly’ marry the vamps and become blood-banks).

This book made me feel excited to read again after a major book slump and I’m already disappointed to wait two months for the next instalment.

I loved this story!! Alicia was such a strong, tough and resilient FMC who never gave up and who fought for her friends even though it got her or them it to trouble!! I loved the premise of the storyline and the story definitely flowed it was non stop!! The guys in the book are hot!! There are no other words! They definitely have flaws!! I’m hoping they will redeem themselves maybe! Somehow! There’s romance, mystery and intrigue in this book and I loved it!! I can’t wait for the next!!

This story plot was so good. I will admit at times I wanted to smack Alicia. Like why are you doing that!!!! Overall loved the characters and the storyline. I really want to see what happens next. I want it to work out with the three guys but I hope she beats the crap out of them first. Cannot wait to read the next book.

Sangria anyone?

This has been a really great read.
I laughed at the nod of calling their drinks sangria.
The dark backstory makes it a bit edgy as well.
All in all I really look forward to the next book.

Have you ever read something that's just so silly you have to double check to make sure you didn't accidentally download satire? Yeah, that's what this was for me.

We started right off the bat with the token mean girl who, of course, has all the depth of a sheet of rice paper. Seriously... will this embodiment of literary laziness ever go out of style? *le sigh* I posit not.

FMC: *exists*
Mean Girl: This man/these men are mine, and you better not even look at him/them or else I'll destroy you!
MMC:*pays attention to FMC for absolutely no goddamn reason at all*
Mean Girl: It's all [FMC's] fault and now my entire personality will be singularly focused on hating her, torturing her, and threatening her demise!!

I'm so tired. So so tired.

And that's the thing with books like this, the dialog is just as cringey as the characters are flimsy. The adults don't adult. Centuries old paranormal creatures are equally as immature and as the youth. The conflict isn't deep or complex or thought provoking. Foreshadowing? What's that?

The utter ridiculousness of this world - if you really want to call what has been created here a "world" - is so far fetched and without structure that absolutely anything can happen and be treated as if it's just a normal day. A random character could literally levitate while taking a crap in the middle of a hallway in front of the FMC and we'd just have to go along with it because "vampires and magic".

On top of this book lacking rules of logic, it's also not a romance. It's not enemies-to-lovers or bully romance or whatever tf this author wants to try to label it as... what it IS is sexual assault, coercion, noncon sexual degradation and humiliation, mental/physical abuse, and rape. "Suck my d**k or I'll turn you over to be tortured and used as a broodmare." Mmmmm ROMANTIC.

The MMCs are not redeemable - there isn't any personal growth or a change of heart or some kind of inkling or undertone of the boys having any greater depth of feelings or respect for the FMC. This is basically just romanticized sex trafficking. (Straight Talk: There is a deep self-hate and/or trauma in someone who would interpret the kind of attention described in this book as romantic or desirable.)

This Cleveland Steamer of a storyline aside (yes, I said it), I read PNR for the eventual HEA, and frankly, I hate these characters. There isn't anything that these boys could do to come back from what they've already done, and the FMC is a bit of a gullible numpty who's difficult to root for. Now excuse me while I go shower this irritation and disgust off of myself.

I briefly dipped into book 2 out of some sort of masochistic curiosity but it only got worse.

While I did finish the book, I honestly thought about giving up on it. The premise seemed interesting but the writing is not that great. Sometimes I think authors give perhaps too much detail (as odd as that may sound), but not in this case. There is NOT enough details in some instances.

When I read it's like I'm watching a movie in my head, so when the characters are doing things, moving around, I see it in my mind. But in this book there are just glaring mistakes because of lack of information. For example, when Alicia first arrives at the school and is told to get some sleep, she changes into a nightgown that's provided to all the female students apparently. Now the next night when they wake to go to breakfast, she never changed out of it. She literally went from waking up, going to breakfast then going to her first period class without one mention of her changing clothes. Two of her roommates that were already there when her and Zarah arrived did go into the bathroom (presumably an en suite but not specifically stated) but Alicia and Zarah woke and went straight to breakfast.

Once in their first class it was said that Zarah was taking notes with a fountain pen then put her things in her satchel. Problem is, where did that stuff come from? No mention of where they got those things or, for that matter, that they even had them in their possession.

There is also a scene a bit later where Alicia has her hands tied behind her back, yet it says she rubs her throat. I sure would loved to see that! *insert eye roll*

There are also instances where it seemed as if the author was thinking of writing one thing but changed her mind and wrote something else but left words in the sentences that were from the first thought. Hence making the sentence sound stupid.

If the author had an editor go over this book, I think perhaps she needs to hire someone else in the future. Sorry, but too many issues for it to just be an oversight.

Horrendous

I don't know why this book has any good reviews. I've read a lot of bully dark romance and I actually thought parts of this story were disgusting.

Alicia is so unlikeable and annoying. I absolutely hate her. She's all over the place and there's nothing strong about her. Her feeble attempts at trying to stand her ground are embarrassing. She caves so quickly anytime the 3 guys are around.

The brothers Dante, Nero, and Raphael are the most unappealing men I've read in any book. There are no redeeming qualities to any of them. Nero and Dante are complete assholes and not in a good way. They're downright cruel and the things they do honestly make no sense. Raphael is all over the place too. He seems nice but then he does things that totally turn me off from his character .

***** SPOILER ******

The part with Alicia in the classroom with her punishment is so cringy and rapey I had a hard time reading it. Alicia is supposed to be punished and spanked by Nero and Dante. BUT in the room are the teacher, principal, guards, doctor, and Raphael. She's forced to expose herself while Nero and Dante spank her and touch her intimately. She describes the other men all making noises and getting turned on while they watch and make comments. It's so uncomfortable and distasteful.

Its a bit more graphic than my retelling, but I feel details aren't totally appropriate for the review.

This was my first time reading this author and I can say that I never will again. It was so so bad.

Its not even worth the free read on kindle unlimited.

DN 70% - skipped through the rest
The cover is pretty but otherwise? This is just dumb.
The premise of the book is interesting but I have rarely seen so flat and boring main characters.

I don't know how I keep stumbling upon those female leads that are utterly self-confidence and "feisty". And always their behaviour is rewarded. There is a difference between being a strong character and being just dumb to a point that it hurts others.
I am tempted to give this book 2*s because side characters keep mentioning how stupid the MC is and that her behaviour is causing the problems. But since the MC is really dumb and doesn't see any of it..

I hate being SO negative about a book. But I am upset at how stupid the MC is. Can't say much about the other chars since there isn't much to say about them. They are there, not a lot of times but sometimes.

There must be a way to write independent strong female character without making them immune to advice.

Mixed Feelings

I have mixed feelings. I like story line but these girls are so gullible and weak willed it’s crazy. And then vampires act as if they are doing the “frumosi” a favor by taking them from their lives and making them essentially serve the vamps. Like the whole book I cringed at this. I loved that Alicia never lost her will to fight though. No matter what she kept fighting for herself.

The Striga Brothers are so all over the place. Constantly going left and then zagging over a mountain and down a hill. I’m just so over the catty ness and the back and forth confusion especially towards the end I found myself rolling my eyes more often towards the end. And yeah I’m not sure if I can go through that stressful irritation some more.

Captured
3.5 stars for Captured by Sofia Daniel. This is book one in the Royals of Sanquine Vampire Academy. This is a dark paranormal reverse harem bully romance. I’m not really sure what to think about somethings in this book, but I did enjoy the story line. Alicia is plucked out of life and is sent to this academy to learn to be a furmosi. Basically they are learning to be a pet for vampires. She catches the attention of Dante, Raphael and Nero, a group of elite Vampires. Alicia is strong and stands up for herself the whole time. This might be a bad thing but I still like it. “Behind each beautiful face is certain death.” While, she is attracted to these boys, but is it dangerous for her. Waiting to see what is to come next.

Book is not what it seems

I will say, straight up, I did not like this book. A lot of people in the reviews DNF. I can see why. This book is about a 17-year old girl, which I was not anticipating for such a mature book. But fine. My issue was the serious lack of consent throughout the book. There are some plot events such as kidnapping that make the lack of consent as part of the plot. But the non consensual spanking in front of a bunch of pervy old vampires that then turns into sexual assault. Extortion and blackmail are the main conduits to an sexual encounters. And that all feels wrong for a minor.

Also there are plot holes abound. Rage enduring lack of reasoning. And flat characters. I would give thus a hard pass, bully romance or not.

This book was interesting to say the least, but it was interesting in a good way. There were some aspects of the book where I was shocked to my core of how characters were treating each other, but then I had to remind myself that the book is about vampires.
Alicia is the definition of acting on your intrusive thoughts but honestly though, I respected her for it. I hate, despise, LOATH Nero, he can go die alone with a stake through his heart. I have no opinion on Dante as I found him quite odd, although, he has blonde hair and blue eyes so he’s cute. Raphael on the other hand, I LOVE HIM, he’s so sweet and such golden retriever vibes.
Overall, I loved this book and I’m going to continue on with the series.

Surprisingly refreshing

I have devoured these books in two days. I fell in love plot and characters in book one. An honestly couldn’t believe how attractive this trilogy was. he unpredictable plot twists and the well written characters I was absorbed into this paranormal world.

I love the story from the introduction of Alicia and the boys ( as well as a lot of amazing other characters) in Captured, to the growth of their relationships, interactions and adventures in Ensnared and Breakout.

This is outstanding series if you love steamy paranormal RH, Sofia Daniels is an amazing authors

What did I just read?

What even was that? That was wild, and not in a good way. I do think the author's writing style is good, but the plot and main character were such a disaster. I can't stand the main character, Alicia. She basically had split personalities. She was ALL OVER the place, she had horrendous judgement, she was pathetic when it came to the 3 brothers--just a slobbering, panting mess to the to the point where I started cursing at her for being so pathetic. I liked it when she's had gumption and bravery, but then she would immediately crumble and cower two seconds later. It was a bad rollercoaster ride. And she's so stupid. I just...sigh. This book was wild.

Mixed opinions???

On one hand I really enjoyed this book, particularly the first half that had me laughing and desperate to see what would happen next. I was addicted to the slow burn I thought was going!

And then it took such a drastic turn, and I was so confused. Do they care? Do they not? Why does she even like them at all??? I hate that stuff where the girls are so into the guys for no reason except they're hot and then them on.

I'll read the next book and see where it goes but if it's all about Alicia swearing to resist but giving in anyway, I'll probably have to jump ship.

I'm confused

Everyone in this school is so back and forth its so hard to know whats going on, and I'm not sure if my frustration is a good thing or a bad thing. Do the guys actually like her or are they using her? Why are the other human girls such a**holes. I mean I understand them trying to make the best out of a scrappy situation but I definitely do not understand their instant hatred of someone trying to do what they think is best for themselves. The way things ended left me in an even more confused state but even though I'm not sure how I actually feel about this book, I feel a bit compelled to see what happens next lol
