What if, instead of feeling paralyzed by fear and pain, you had a plan of action to climb out of your suffering and learned to dream again? You are going to face HARD THINGS in life. Things that take your breath away. Those things you didn’t expect, the pain you didn't anticipate, the moment you didn't see coming. What do you do when you face these HARD THINGS? Taken from the story of Joseph, the man who conquered the unthinkable in his own life and learned to see God’s purpose in his painful path. This study is designed for those who are passionately obsessed with learning how to live their life the way God intended. No longer willing to settle for a life of debilitating shame and crippling fear. If you are convinced there’s more, this study is for you! Doing HARD THINGS isn't always something you’ve been taught, but it’s something you were made to do. If you’re willing to take the risk and find the courage to change, this 15-day study is designed for your transformation!
Overall, this was a good study. I felt like it just skimmed the surface of what it could have been. Also, I felt like the title was misleading. I thought this was a totally different book going into it. Instead, it dealt with a lot of past hurts and hang ups. Not really what I was looking for. Plus, the typos were everywhere. I felt like they rushed this book into publication just to get it out sooner. The typos were so annoying.
I did this study with a group of ladies from my church, completing it in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic - excellent timing. I didn't believe I had fear in my life when I began but Havilah, through the Word, helped to remove my blinders to what was really there. She then, through the Word, equipped me to overcome and walk in the victory God has already won for me.
The author examines the life of Joseph, son of Jacob, and uses it to show us that we can make choices that determine the outcome of our lives, no matter the circumstances we are in or the feelings we are experiencing.
This book is bold and fresh powerful and transforming! I love the graphic design of the interior pages, Another reason to keep reading is to enjoy each new graphic image within its pages.
Why I picked up the book: After seeing Havilah speak at a local church - I bought every book she offers off of Amazon! This is my second one I've read so far - and I was not disappointed!
What is the book about: This book is a three week (15 day) work book. I really like how she breaks things down into bite size pieces. I know a friend who read this book as part of a book club and I think you would get a lot out of discussing your discoveries with others as you go through it.
Lessons Applied: This book went further into my past than I would have thought. My favorite exercises were on forgiveness and letting go and writing a future letter to myself.
Who I would recommend to read this book: If you've read an loved one of Havilah's books - you will love this one too!

Theme Song: I Can Do Hard Things by Jennifer Nettles
A friend from church decided to start a book club and this was the first book we read, all I have to say is wow! What an amazing book, I learned much more about my myself, what I need to do to fix my problems, and to connect closer to God and grow my faith in him. A book I would definitely recommend to everybody.
This study is all about breaking fear of fear and pain, and it helped me so much! I worked through the study with a friend, and I highly recommend that approach! Talking through it keeps focus on God and accountability in faith.
The title fits man. This book is soul work honestly. I feel like I could read it multiple times through and get something new out of it every time! I spent alot of time really digging in and I HIGHLY recommend this to everyone!
This took me a long time to get through but life happened in between. This definitely made me think about things and I was reflective on everything I’ve gone through and have been going through.
Enjoyed this as a group experience with two other friends, pursuing more intentionality and expectancy in our lives, but the book ends abruptly and seemingly inconsistent with the premise. The first chapter explains that "when we are in pain, we don't dream," and the subsequent chapters offer ways to take responsibility in our lives and release shame, all to break free of pain. But unfortunately, instead of wrapping up the content with a charge to dream again, Havilah uses the final chapter to begin an incomplete and narrow-minded new topic on doubt.
I think the book was helpful in some areas with repenting and living in freedom, which is the goal, I believe. But I can't tell if I got an early edition or what but there's quite a few gramatical errors and sections were misplaced.
I don't want to take away the healing part of this book because it IS powerful and true, however, the structure isn't my favorite.
Making me fill in blanks is good to keep engaged.
Overall, a good book. I am recommending this to a couple people.
A great study helping people see that they have what it takes!! Her style is light but digs deep into the heart of the word and brings hope & courage to the reader!
