Its a very readable overview of the social control in early modern Frankfurt am Main . The book does a great job at overviewing how gender norms in the time period affected the way crimes with the same "goal" were enforced for men and women

I don't know when I begun reading this book but it has been left half-read for at least two years.. ups

There are some fascinating insights and information tidbits such as:

Women could be banished from the city for the concealment of pregnancy

In the late 18th century, 21,5% of the population (Frankfurt am Main) were dependent on the poor relief
