The home-centered initiative of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has invigorated members of the Church as never before. Now, to further fortify children and youth, young members of the Church have been invited to foster their personal development by working toward individual goals. It's easy to set goals, but much harder to stick with them. When the going gets tough, how can you keep your children's goals from being discarded and forgotten? How can you teach your kids goal-setting principles that will serve them the rest of their lives? This job of coaching kids along the covenant path requires parents who are prepared to offer appropriate support.
In Goal Getters, discover a wealth of inspired advice on how to help your kids establish healthy expectations, evaluate progress, stop fearing failure, and stay motivated through goal loops, an individualized approach to goal setting. As you apply the principles in this book and take steps to help your children engage with goals, you will enjoy the added benefit of gaining strategies for yourself - so join together as a family and see what it's like having kids with goals!
This had some good ideas and good overall parenting advice. There was even some good psychology mixed in. It just got long and a little boring and repetitive for me. However, it definitely provided extra guidance in each area, which makes it a good go-to resource in a variety of ways. It gives ideas for talking with your kids, naming your talks with a purpose, guiding your kids, and embracing failure along the way because it's a necessary part of learning. It was a good read overall.
I'm giving this 2 stars because it was so dull - such a slow read for me. At the same time, it contains some valuable ideas that I will use, but wasn't really inspiring like I expected. It also didn't tie in much with the goal program for Children and Youth, which is what I was expecting it to do.
This book as some great information about setting goals and coaching people who set goals. There's lots of good information. However, I personally found it hard to motivate myself to finish it. It just didn't have the right draw to pull me in. I finished it, but it was work.
