i am so sorry for the way i'm about to word this but... this was such a slay spotted this little collection in a local indie ottawa bookstore (shoutout to the Spaniel's Tale) in their little "local" section before i left the province and the cover and title were too enticing. flipped through it quickly, landed on the story about paul mccartney, giggled at the first few lines i saw, bought it on the spot and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! the stories are so well written and so silly, they're perfect! i saw another person say this in the reviews on here, but i never knew where the story was going to go, which is rare for my little pattern-recognizing brain. the absurdist humour is delivered in such an innocent and unassuming way, you literally cannot help but laugh. i read this baby so fast and was so excited when i saw this is actually Jordan Moffatt's SECOND book because it means i don't have to wait too long to read more of their work!
genuinely cannot recommend this book enough, going to encourage everyone i know to buy it and read it ASAP lol xoxo
If you "like reading but don't do it much" read this. If you "don't want to commit a bunch of time to reading because if you stop in the middle of a chapter you'll feel forget stuff" read this. If you "feel like nobody gets how much power corrupts in every aspect of life or knows how to make you feel good about yourself while teaching that lesson" read this. If you "think this improv scene with a crazy premise would be great if it was well-written" read this. If you "think the world of art is over-saturated and that it is going to be impossible to find an escape anymore" read this. If you "want light-hearted up-beat comedy but have given up trying to find it because the world is drab and art imitates life or more likely the last generation's art was drab and life imitated that art and now the cycle has returned with another generation of dark humour that scares you away from innocence and you just don't see the point in searching for something cute and happy" read this. If you "need a laugh" read this. If you "need a smile" read this.
It’s a fine book of 27 very short stories. A few of these stories could be expanded more. What I most liked about them, in many instances, is that the story went in a totally different direction than I expected. It’s literally an amazing book.
