I seem to be among the few that didn't love this book, but unfortunately, I had a hard time finishing it. The writing style was good, but I couldn't get into the story. I also wasn't a fan of the main characters (mostly Nora), so maybe thats why.
Thank you to NetGalley and publishers for allowing me access to this arc in exchange for an honest review!
I received this book from the author for an honest review. Parts of the book were cheesy but in a good way. Deacon and Nora have a love-hate relationship going on. There's chemistry between them but they each have major trust issues. Because of this, they don't know how to act around each other. Nora covers her insecurities with snark while Deacon dates other women. After the meddling of a couple of teenagers, Deacon and Nora end up stranded together. They slowly start to let their guards down and the chemistry between them explodes. Once they get back home, Nora is afraid to face her feelings and reverts back to being snarky with Deacon. He embraces his feelings for her and is just waiting for her to catch up. The ending was cute but I was expecting more.
4.5 stars - This was such a fun read. It was a bit painful to watch at the beginning as Nora and Deacon denied their feelings and dealt with past hurts. Once they started getting through that, it was like the skies opened to a beautiful day!
I love the playfulness and sarcasm and it's not just between Nora and Deacon. Both sides of their families are frequently in on the action. The puns (which are often bad) and banter between all of the characters are absolutely fantastic!
Oh, and let us not forget the serious amount of heat those two generate! It is FANTASTIC! I'm surprised the snow sticks when they're in the vicinity. It'll be fun to see what happens in the next story if the series continues (which I hope it does!). I'm voluntarily reviewing an ARC of this steamy book.
3.75stars-THE CHRISTMAS SNEAK is the second instalment in Marie Harte’s contemporary, adult HOPE’S TURN HOLIDAYS erotic, romance series focusing on a close knit group of family and friends during the holiday season. This is thirty-nine year old, former NFL quarterback Deacon Flashman, and thirty-five year old, freelance editor Nora Nielson’s story line. THE CHRISTMAS SNEAK can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from third person perspective THE CHRISTMAS SNEAK follows the friends to enemies to lovers relationship between thirty-nine year old, former NFL quarterback Deacon Flashman, and thirty-five year old, freelance editor Nora Nielson. Approximately one year earlier, having watched her best friend fall in love with ex NFL star Mitch Flashman, Nora found herself wanting a family of her own. A date with Mitch’s brother Deacon ended with Deacon ghosting our story line heroine, and in the interim, made everyone uncomfortable when both were at family get togethers. Enter Nora’s ‘nephew’ Simon, and his girlfriend Jenna, who have plans to push Nora and Deacon back together. A snowy weekend at the cabin forces Jenna and Deacon to confess the secrets of their past, a past that is about to become their future. What ensues is the tempestuous but building romance and relationship between Nora and Deacon, as our couple must come to terms with past failures and plans for their future.
The relationship between Nora and Deacon is a friends to enemies to frenemies to lovers relationship in which Nora had no idea what had happened or why. Deacon had been burned in the past, and our hero refused to go down that rode, with anyone, ever again. Nora had her own secrets but Nora wanted marriage and children, and with no prospects in Hope’s Turn, Oregon, Nora considered packing her bags, and moving on. A week spent with Deacon quickly changed her mind, a week in which both revealed their attraction and need for one another. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are reintroduced to Mitch and Becca Flashman (Any Given Snow Day 1; Nora’s nephew Simon and his girlfriend Jenna, as well as extended family, friends and the occasional ex.
THE CHRISTMAS SNEAK is a quick read; a ‘Hallmark-esque’ story of family, friendships, relationships and love all wrapped in a snowy holiday setting where everyone gets their own happily ever after. The premise is fun and engaging; the romance is sensual; the characters are broken but moving forward.
My Review: The Christmas Sneak by Marie Harte was an unexpected pseudo second chance love story.
The title of this book alone warranted a peek inside. Once I looked, I couldn't turn away. I loved Nora and Deacon's story. These two would be lovers supercharged each other up, despite having a rocky start. After an unplanned snow and a stranded by choice situation, neither could avoid dealing with the other. A hot and bothered romance unfolded in a big way.
My Final Say: I was completely captivated by this story. I could not help but like the main characters. The rest of the family - Mitch and Becca, Simon and Jenna, the parents - were all so endearing. Hope's Turn must be a magical place. I cannot wait to read more about its couples.

Appreciation is extended to the author, to the publisher, and to NetGalley, who provided an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review. The words I have shared are my own and have not been influenced by the aforementioned in any way.
I'm starting to get in the Christmas mood! This was a cute but slightly frustrating Christmas love story. We've got a couple that have been burned badly in their past and that has come in between these two love birds. There was a lot of baggage to unload, but once it was, I enjoyed these two. I've not read the first book and I'm intrigued. I will definitely be checking that one out next.
When I have kids, I’m going to have the husband first.
Deacon, retired quarterback with trust issues, was used to women fawning over him. Life as a professional athlete attracted the wrong type of women, such as a lying, cheating, scheming ex-wife and a revolving door of questionable, materialistic bedmates.
Teenagers, Simon and Jenna are unparalleled co-conspirators and decide to nudge Deacon and Nora in the right direction to coupledom.
NORA STARED IN CONFUSION AT THE CLOTHES THAT DIDN’T BELONG IN HER suitcase. She’d packed flannels and comfy PJs for a week-long stay in the cabin. Not skin-tight jeans, clingy sweaters, lingerie, and her emergency thongs—the underwear she wore when going on a hope-to-get-lucky date. She frowned, wondering how the heck she’d gotten these clothes instead of the ones she’d packed. Jenna. The conniver used the old bathroom excuse method to raid Nora’s closet and replace her packed wardrobe with flimsy attire.
Simon headed down the hallway and detoured into Deacon’s room randomly throwing in clothes. Lots of warm items. Then he pulled open the nightstand and saw what he’d expected… a box of condoms, dumping them all in the bag and zipped it up. He then hurriedly raced downstairs and outside, tossing the bag in the back of Deacon’s SUV.
Described as a sexually confident woman, Nora repeatedly engages in unprotected sex with Deacon, despite his active participation in the dating pool.
The easy banter between brothers: “If your brother keeps giving me that look, I’m telling your mom on him.” “Good call. Brenda Flashman is savage when her favorite is getting bullied.” Mitch heard him and frowned. “I’m Mom’s favorite.” Deacon snorted. “You keep thinking that.”
“Nora has mean down to a science. Roy, I think I love her.” Roy got them two bottles of the special IPA and toasted him. “To you and Nora, may you one day not scare off the love of your life.”
Panicked, she stood and whipped off her sweatshirt and tank. As expected, he stared, wide-eyed, at her bare breasts. “You’re here. I want sex. You just admitted you want it too. So? Let’s do it.” She paused. “I don’t have any condoms.” “I have one in my jacket,” he murmured, still staring at her body. “You want to distract me? How about you do what you need to, but I’m going to talk?” “I…what?” “I came over to talk. You want sex. Okay, I’m yours.” He held his arms out. “You take what you need, but I’m getting this off my chest.” Yet he couldn’t stop staring at all of her. Determined not to hear what she wasn’t ready for, Nora took the fun, cowardly way out and stripped down to nothing. Then she took off Deacon’s jacket and shirt while he rambled about feelings and truth and more feelings. Blah blah. “Move your chair. Scoot this way.” She then proceeds to reduce him to putty. Once depleted, he stared down at her, looking satisfied and not as off-balance as she might have hoped. “That was amazing. I know you’re busy, so I’ll leave. Call me when you’re ready to talk.” He waved goodbye and walked away. “Thanks for the sex,” he called over his shoulder.

At Christmas time I like to re-read some holiday favorites and, this is one of those books that is special. Nora’s ultimate Christmas wish hangs in the balance between head and heart. Her journey towards her dream, a future with Deacon, is full of sarcasm, sassy quips, lots of pleasure and hope. This is a beautiful romance that makes you feel good.
Original review - I love a book that you fall right into because the characters so fun, interesting and full of life and love. Deacon and Nora are all that and more. Their snarky personalities and hidden vulnerabilities add to their obvious attraction to make this romance entertaining. The fact that Deacon can't seem to say the right thing to Nora is so realistic and the fact the Nora tries to hate Deacon for it is completely relatable. The secondary characters are amazing. Simon, Deacon's nephew is such a typical teenager but, with a heart of gold looking for everyone to have their happy endings. Mitch, Deacon's brother has his brother's back while his wife, Becca who is also Nora's sister-like cousin supports Nora in every way. It is a really supportive group of family and friends that also know how to laugh at themselves.
The darker side of this holiday romance is how people can feel so alone no matter how many people are around them, especially this time of year that it puts an ache in your heart. It is a very profound element in Deacon and Nora's story and I think the raw honesty between these characters is a very special part of their romance. It is where they find something in common and it builds a foundation for what's to come.
I recommend this book for the steamy hot fun, the heartfelt emotions and finding love right under your nose. Add the Christmas setting and it's a beautiful romance full of heart and family.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I knew I'd like this book because I've always enjoyed Marie Harte's writing. She has a gift for fun and snappy dialog and for writing protagonists who aren't too perfect (at least on the admittedly skewed romance-o-meter).
I didn't read the first novel in this series though, and I think it would've helped, at least with regard to deepening the characters a bit. In book 1, supposedly, this book's protagonists played a large part in getting that book's protagonists--her cousin Becca and his younger brother Mitch--together. Don't get me wrong; it can definitely be read as a standalone. But the root cause of the tension in this novel (Deacon ghosting Nora after one date) happened before this one starts. By the time we catch up with them in chapter 1, Deacon has already had a disastrous relationship (or two), and Nora has decided he's a total ass. A year has passed--one in which they've presumably been in each other's company due to the closeness of their two families--but we didn't get to see any of that tension. It's only the birth of Mitch and Becca's kid and subsequent (late) family Thanksgiving that brings them together in the context of this novel.
Phew, that's a whole lot of words from me to explain that I just felt like this book could have used a steeper story arc. There's a reason I read novels rather than write them.
All that aside, this book is really fun to read. Deacon and Nora match wits time and time again, and their mutual ability to zero in on each other's personality quirks clearly demonstrates that they really KNOW each other. Frequently, I'm frustrated by novels where the couple is deeply in love only because the author tells me they are (in spite of no visible chemistry). Not here. Deacon and Nora have chemistry in spades, and once they get past their respective denials (first Deacon's and then Nora's), they're all in.
The story is told in the third person, alternating between Deacon's and Nora's perspective, but we also get a third perspective from Simon, Becca's teenaged son from a previous marriage. He apparently played a role in getting his mom and Mitch together in book 1, so he (along with his girlfriend) tries his hand again here in book 2. It's an interesting choice, and I never mind getting a third eye, though I felt like Simon could have either had more of a presence or less of one. It's possible, though, that those who've read book 1 will appreciate the continuity, and it looks like Simon and Jenna will try matchmaking a third time in book 3 if the series. Cool with me.
I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher and Netgalley. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!
Trigger warning: suicidal thoughts in character's past
This second chance romance was a holiday treat. Marie's fans were begging her for Deacon's story from Any Given Snow Day. Deacon is the older brother of Snow Day's hero Mitch. The heroine of this book is Mitch's Becca's cousin Nora. It was so much fun revisiting Hope's Turn and seeing teens Simion & Jenna matchmaking and maneuvering Nora & Deacon's lives so they'd finally get together. Marie has a gift of seeing family and friends interaction as so believable. I found myself right there while this story unfolded. I always enjoy Marie Harte's stories. Such a Christmas present to her fans.
Deacon Flashman 's NFL quarterback career was cut short by a shoulder injury that ended his career. His now ex-wife was in for the money and divorced him during his injury recovery taking him for millions. At his lowest point his old friend Roy Thompson reaches out to his old friend and offers him a partnership in his pub expansion back home. Deacon takes him up on it and finds a place for himself home in Hope's Turn. Unfortunately his love life is full of bad choices that never last. He and Nora had one date that he didn't follow up on with no explanation. She scared him as he knew she was serious relationship about to happen and he wasn't ready to face that yet. Deacon sees himself as a two-time loser between career & family and not the rich NFL star he saw himself becoming.
Nora is Becca's cousin, an only child, and they were raised as sisters. Family is everything. The problem is she's turning 35 with no baby or husband and no prospects with her career goals, to be a novelist. She's lonely and on the outside watching Becca find happiness twice. She is hurt that Deacon dumped her so suddenly and their lives keep intersecting with family. Thanks to the holidays they are finally pushed to talk to each other and get things straightened out enough so they can at least be friends for the sake of family. When Nora takes off for the family's cabin in a snowstorm for soul searching Becca's teen son Simon and girlfriend Jenna get involved and manipulate Deacon to go check on her because of the coming bad weather. They get snowed in and things heat up in the cabin. They talk and see they have a lot in common and have the same hopes in life.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader's copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The Christmas Sneak is the second book in the Hope's Turn Holidays series by Marie Harte. While returning readers will be far more invest in the characters, both primary and secondary, those new to the series will be able to catch up quickly and enjoy the story.
Ex-NFL star Deacon Flashman had the perfect woman in the palm of his hands, and dropped the ball. Considering Deacon’s past performances, that isn’t news. An injury cut short his football career, and then he got taken for millions by a greedy ex-wife. But Deacon’s luck has changed. He’s got a great job, and he’s recently become an uncle again. With the holidays close, he’s getting a second chance. Nora Nielson, the woman who got away, is back. Now he needs to figure out a way to get into her good graces. A relationship with Nora is everything he wants, and everything that scares him. But to let the past go, he’ll have to go big or go home. And the stakes have never been higher
The Christmas Sneak is a fun read with good characters. I liked both Deacon and Nora. I liked their dynamic, their give and take of snark and sweet. I loved the secondary characters and the story of the bigger picture of family and friends around them. I just could not love the read, as much as I wanted to. I remember when I first read this author, I was heavily invested in every series, because she does the community, family, and town connections so very well. All of that was on point here as well. I just felt like the main couple had things a little too perfect. Yes, they each had issues to work out, and they had to get better at communication, but Deacon seem to be way too perfect- his issues kind of stemmed in part from being too nice a guy- and he just kept rolling in that direction. Their individual issues seemed to line up too well, and it felt like some never really got handle, just acknowledge as a reason for certain reactions or behaviors and then the moved it on along. Honestly, I did enjoy the book as I was reading it, there was just so much potential for it to be even better that I felt was missed.
The Christmas Sneak is a good romance, with good characters. It just did not grab me the way the first books I read from this author.
The Christmas Sneak is a cute holiday romance that's not all wrapped up perfectly with a bow. Deacon Flashman and Nora Nielson are two characters with intense attraction to one another but deny it every step of the way. Deacon is gun shy when it comes to women because he's been burned in the past. Nora has issues with Deacon that both of them are going to have to work through. Their love/hate relationship produces some killer chemistry that neither want to acknowledge at first, but as they come together for the birth of a new family member, the denial is almost too much for them to bear. When the bickering stops and they actually talk to each other, wonderful things begin to take shape.
The author produced two very likable, very flawed characters. Putting their vulnerabilities out in the open created realism, relatability, and a story readers will be able to appreciate and sink themselves into. I was engaged in the story from the beginning, even through some parts that made me cringe. No relationship is perfect and sometimes one person has a hard time talking to the other. It happens and has happened to me. Opening up to another person, no matter how much you know them, are comfortable with them, or want to get to know them, is difficult, in the best of scenarios. When both characters have issues (Deacon's is trust and Nora's is loneliness, and a bit of depression at where her life is currently versus where she thought it would be by her age), working through them is harder.
I loved Deacon and Nora's story. Sometimes people don't see the spark, the circumstances aren't right, or life takes them in a different direction the first time. Other times, the spark is there burning bright, and one person is scared. The author did a wonderful job bringing Deacon and Nora back together and showing how second chances really can be magical.
The Christmas Sneak by Marie Harte is a cute contemporary romance between an ex-football star and his cousin-in-law. Deacon Flashman had been burned too many times, mostly by woman after his money, including his now, ex-wife. He had one date with Nora, months ago, but how good it had been had scared him and so he ghosted her. Somewhat awkward considering she was his sister-in-law’s cousin, and around all the time. Mitch and Becca were so in love it was nauseating sometimes. The baby was perfect, however, and her big brother, Simon, from Becca’s earlier marriage was a great kid. A great kid whose girlfriend, Jenna, saw that Deacon and Nora were perfect for each other, and they set out to make it happen.
Simon tricked Deacon into joining Nora at a weekend getaway where she was thinking about her future, about leaving town. Simon packed a duffle for him and hid it in the car, before convincing Deacon that she might need help, in the snow and all. Jenna has switched Nora’s bag so her comfortable clothing had been replaced by sexy things. They were all set. Would it work? It was a funny, and yet serious book about two people too afraid to get involved. They were perfect for each other and their avoidance was comedic. They figured it out on this weekend, but were still apprehensive. They were two regular characters, well written, who just needed to get over themselves. It was an entertaining, if not deep, book.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of The Christmas Sneak by Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #VictoryEditingNetgalleyCoop #MarieHarte #TheChristmasSneak
Nora and Deacon are a perfect couple or so they thought until Deacon got cold feet. The feelings he had for her, Nora, overwhelmed him. So he ghosted her, left town, and when he came back, a woman returned with him. Crushing any chance he may have had because she knew then he was nothing but a player. Saying one thing and doing another. Did they both feel sparks when they were around each other? Yes. Did their looks alone give the other palpitations? Yes. Do their hearts skip a beat if their hands brush by accident?
Yes. Would it make a difference if he said something to her to apologize for what he did if he even knows what he did? She might accept it but he hurt her badly. Plus it’s been months, and they do everything they can to avoid each other, and she is not kind with her words at all. Now that Becca and Mitch’s new baby has been born they are going to have to be around each other more. Or will they? Jenna and Simon decide that they are going to do some holiday matchmaking. They believe all the sniping that Deacon and Nora are doing is really pent-up sexual tension.
They put a plan into motion when they figure out that Nora is thinking about pulling up roots and finding herself new opportunities to meet new people. Hopefully, with it new possibilities to find new men to date. Guess who becomes a part of that plan without his knowledge, and after it's too late to back down. See how their handiwork paid off. Fun story.
Great that Ms Harte has turned ANY GIVEN SNOW DAY in to a series. Lovely story with likeable characters plus we get to spend time with Becca, Mitch and Simon too. In this second book we get the follow-on from two characters we came to know very well in book one. The older brother of Mitch, Deacon and Becca’s best friend and quasi sister Nora. Deacon has had a rough time. Like his brother he was a pro athlete but injury curtailed his career early on. His nasty ex-wife, who is thankfully not in this story, took him to the cleaners in a long drawn out divorce. We never know why. Deacon and Nora had one date then Deacon ghosted with no explanation. This is basically due to the fact he got scared as he had feelings for Nora. He has then dated every woman around. Nora is off course upset and angry at him and when he tries to get back in her good graces, she rightfully gives him the cold shoulder. We then get a great story of meddling nephews and family. Cannot say I loved Deacon but I did understand why he was so gun shy and warmed up to him at the end. I loved Nora, down to earth, honest and with her head screwed on. She was actually thinking of moving away to try to find fresh dating potential, as she really wanted what her parents and Becca and Mitch have, love, companionship and family of her own. This is my honest review of this book.
A fun read perfect for the holiday! The characters are down to earth, relatable and perfectly flawed and the storyline is fun, engaging, and entertaining. There is plenty of snarky banter, funny moments, heartfelt revelations, friendship and family, sneaky interference by a couple of meddling teens, celebrations, reflection, new relationships, sexy time, and lots of love.
Deacon and Nora have both been burned terribly in the past and it has hardened their hearts and made them seriously wary of the opposite sex or any kind of involvement, especially relationships. However, seeing the others close to them happy, in love, and celebrating new life and beginnings causes them both to do some self-reflection and open themselves up to the possibility of happiness and love. After a few mishaps and total honesty, they finally realize what they already knew all along. This was a great story with a wonderful, sweet HEA.
This book is the second in the Hope’s Turn Holiday series and it was great to see Deacon find his happy ending and to catch up with his brother, Mitch, and Becca and Simon from the first book. *I received an arc of this book from the author and I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
The Christmas Sneak is the second in the Hope's Turn Holidays series by Marie Harte, set in the charming little town of Hope's Turn.
In it, former NFL star Deacon Flashman and his virtual sister-in-law, Nora Nielson, dance around a mutual attraction and an unfortunate tendency toward foot-in-mouth. Both of them have had reason to be cautious in relationships, and between that and some not-the-smoothest comments, they have more than their share of trouble connecting despite the clear shared interests and compatibility. Their loving families and friends conspire a bit to give them a nudge, in hopes that the season will bring everyone what they want most.
Marie Harte's story is heartwarming and lovely. I was charmed both by their oh-so-relatable awkwardness and clumsy missed connections and their growing friendship when they're able to let their guard down a bit. I also appreciated the sense of community, that despite sometimes their best efforts, neither Deacon nor Nora are islands but have warm ties to people who love them and want the best for them. I really enjoyed The Christmas Sneak and would definitely read more in this setting!
Nora's cousin / sister married Deacon's younger brother and has been the happiest she's been since the death of her husband. Deacon and Nora went on one date months ago - Deacon stated he would call Nora again - but ghosted her. Since that date neither one is really happy being in the same room.
With the addition of a new baby to the family - both must face the music and get along with each other. Deacon went through a rough patch after his wife divorced him and he could no longer play professional football - his wife called him a has been and was not happy not being the spotlight anymore., His ex-wife took him for most of his money. Since then, he has been insecure with having a long-term relationship with any woman. He has always liked / loved the way Nora gives him a bad time - sharp wit and does not hold back her opinion on anything.
Norm has secretly wanted Deacon - but after he ghosted her, she has been cautions around him,
Their nephew has made it his mission to get the two together and to realize that they were made for each other.
I don't want to give the story away - a cute read.
The Christmas Sneak is Deacon & Nora's journey to finding each other. We first meet them in Any Given Snow Day (I highly recommend reading this book first to thoroughly enjoy Deacon & Nora) as supporting characters. What Deacon and Nora deal with in their lives are real life events that we can all relate to or have experienced ourselves. As they tell each other constantly in their book, they are not perfect; that "not-perfect and their history" makes them all the more endearing. Marie has such a huge gift for creating world-building in all of her stories...that you as the reader can count on supporting characters eventually having their own books AND past favorite characters showing in her new stories. OF COURSE this newest story has all the themes you have come to associate with Marie Harte's work: blistering hot sex, love, romance, sizzling chemistry, laugh-out-loud family & friend moments, drama, snarky humor and all the emotions you can want. Marie Harte does not disappoint in her latest book. *I received an ARC for my honest review. 😊🌴🌺
The Christmas Sneak is a second chance romance and I really enjoyed this Christmas read.
Deacon ghosted Nora after their only date, however as Nora's cousin is married to Deacon's brother they are constantly around each other. Nora has no idea why he ghosted her after their date went so well, so her reaction whenever she sees him is to be snarky and sarcastic.
Deacon has feelings for Nora, but after being hurt by his ex wife he has serious trust issues and got scared after their date. When he realises his feelings for Nora and tries to make it right all he seems to do is make her angrier with him and doesn't know how to get her to give him a second chance.
Nora's nephew Simon and his girlfriend Jenna decide to meddle and push them to realise their feelings for each other, they end up snowed in at Nora's parents cabin and finally start to open up to one another.
This is a really fun and enjoyable read. I loved Nora's sparky attitude and quick wit, and the banter between her and Deacon had me on stitches
The Christmas Sneak is sort of a second chance romance novel. The second chance is given to Deacon whose brother married Nora's cousin. This is the second book in this series and I just purchased the first one so that I can see where it all started. Deacon is hoping Nora will give him a second chance after he totally ghosted her after they had one amazing date. He was burned badly by his ex-wife and isn't sure he wants to start a relationship, thus the ghosting. I totally understand why Nora took a while to thaw after the way Deacon treated her before. I really enjoyed this book and only had one part of the storyline that I thought added nothing to the book and that was the reflecting Nora did on the past secret relationship that she had. I know it was supposed to show why she didn't trust her judgment when dating men, but it felt pretty lame to me. Other than that one part of the book, the rest was excellent, thus my going and purchasing the first book after reading an advance review copy of this one. Strong 4 stars.
Enjoy the humor and spice of a sexy holiday romance sure to warm up your winter. Ex-NFL star Deacon Flashman had the perfect woman in the palm of his hand…and dropped the ball. Considering Deacon's past performances, that isn’t news. An injury cut short his football career, and then he got taken for millions by a greedy ex-wife. But Deacon’s luck has changed. Now he needs to figure out a way to get into her good graces. A relationship with Nora is everything he wants…and everything that scares him. He feels for her what he never felt for anyone else, and he knows she’s got the power to hurt him. Or to bring him the happiness he’s always wanted
Heather's Notes I found the premise of this one a little hard to get into. Still I liked Deacon and Nora, and even though they didn't communicate well, it did not really cause a lot of angst. I enjoyed the book.
Deacon is an ex-NFL quarterback who went through a rough divorce a few years ago. After his ex-wife cleared his accounts, he started casual dating, changing partners frequently. Eventually he and a friend buy a brewery. With his life becoming stable, his thoughts turn often to Nora, the girl that got away.
Nora is unhappily single, but is excited for the upcoming birth of her cousin Becca’s baby. Unfortunately, she has to share the event with Deacon, whose brother Mitch is married to Becca. After a single, disastrous date with Deacon shortly after his divorce, Nora wants nothing to do with Deacon.
Meanwhile, Nora’s nephew and his girlfriend decide to play matchmaker to Deacon and Nora, thus hatching Operation Sneak….
This story is so good and ticks all the boxes I love. I highly, highly recommend reading this!
Being the second book in the series I did have to go to Amazon to read book number one. You may be able to understand what is happening without reading book one but I would recommend starting there. It is a cute book to put you in a Christmas mood for the season. These characters come with a lot of baggage from their past that just seems to keep getting in the way of their relationship. With help from two teenagers, these two finally are able to get a good push in the right direction. I do believe that this book does have some realistic views on single women in their 30s wanting to start a family and get married. This story delivers the punch that you need to find that happily ever after. I give this book four stars for the good read but it is not a five-star book because it is not something I will be reading twice. This book will be recommended to my followers on Instagram.
Enjoyable holiday story with quirky (and funny!) Nora Nielson and ex-NFL star Deacon Flashman, both thrown together by circumstances: Deacon’s brother is married to Nora’s cousin (whom she is close to like a sister). With the antics of Nora (and Deacon’s) nephew Simon and girlfriend Jenna in trying to get Nora and Deacon together, this is both a funny and yet touching story. While Deacon certainly has his scars from his previous marriage, Nora has been hurt by other relationships and even Deacon, in the past.
Can they both give each other a chance instead of just verbally sparring at one another?
Definitely true: humor and spice - an enjoyable holiday romance story!
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book, however, this is my honest opinion.
The Christmas Sneak is a fun holiday romance perfect for reading anytime of the year! It has lots of the fun witty banter that I absolutely love, a couple of meddling matchmaking teens, and a snowy cabin. I really like that Nora is snarky, a little flawed, and trying to write a book. Deacon is hot, fun, and not afraid of a smart, witty, woman (who according to him may also be a little mean lol). I unfortunately did not read the first book of the series, so there were a few times that I felt like I was missing out on some previous plotlines regarding Simon, but overall it held up as a standalone pretty well and definitely made me want to go back to read book one if it's as funny and captivating as book two. The ending hints on about book three, so I look forward to that as well.
This was a fun read, full of snark and wit. Nora and Deacon kinda hate each other but are still attracted to each other. Both have major trust issues. Add in a dash of meddling teenagers (who behave wiser than most teenagers I know) who connive to get the hero and heroine together and you have a fun holiday romp. Deacon is loveable, even if a little clueless, and Nora is sarcastic and their banter is amusing. They agree to have just sex in the beginning. By the end, neither of them can fight the feelings and they get their HEA. The sexy times could've been spicer for me, but that's a personal preference. Overall, I would encourage you to cozy up in front of a fire with a snuggly blanket, a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows (obvi), and enjoy this book.
At the start of the book Deacon clearly has a lot of grovelling to do after ghosting Nora the year before. She is hesitant to give him another chance after making bad choices in the past and so the stage is set for a will they / won’t they romance, with some matchmaking from her teenage son. There is a lot of chemistry between Deacon and Nora and the witty banter between the two is fun to read. I loved the involvement of their families and friends which all add to the fun, cosy atmosphere of the book. My only issue is that I hadn’t realised that this book was part of a series, so felt like I had missed the start of Deacon and Nora’s romance.
Good story. Deacon and Nora have been fighting each other since they went on a date while getting Mitch and Becca together (Any Given Snow Day). Deacon has been burned by his ex-wife and all the gold-digger girlfriends he has had since his injury put him out of the NFL. Nora just hasn't had any luck in finding the right guy. She is angry with Deacon for basically blowing her off after the one date. With a little help from her nephew, they begin to realize that each other's fears are holding them back.
