⭐2 “started from the bottom and now we [have reached the pits of despair]” stars⭐
I read this a while ago, yet I wanted to wait and settle my thoughts before reviewing it. Which was the wrong move, because guess what?
My initial issues only GREW.
This book started out quite nicely, but after the sixty percent mark… Well, pardon my crassness but it was a bit of a shitshow.

The question that applies here is quite simple: how can something that started oh so right… end up being oh so wrong? Disastrous, truly. Nonsensical and gratuitous. Tethering the edge of logic before diving into the purest of oblivions, by which I mean plot holes and a bizarre parade of events.
In fact, the tally of those things became so extended by the last page, I decided to structure my review by compiling separate lists devoted to them. Tackling the inconsistencies, bizarre twists, and an overall brief summary of the most head-scratching, eyebrow-quirking, what-the-hell-is-happening moments that transpired.
So skipping anymore introductions...

First off:
THE SWISS CHEESE OF PLOT HOLES
⟾ 1) From the very first chapter, we are told that Gideon, the Daddy MC of this tale, has a physical resemblance to Superman à la Henry Cavill. Dark hair, blue eyes, incredibly handsome, buff and put together. You get the picture.
Yet, about sixty percent in, the narration casually informs us that the man happens to be forty-five, compares him to George Clooney (who by the way is sixty, so damn Gideon, those forty-five are looking ROUGH) and starts making every character remark on his advanced age. Which had also never happened before that point.
Loki ain’t got nothing on this shapeshiftinggranddaddy.
⟾ 2) Cal, the other lead and a student at Gideon’s school (and who spent a night having sex with him for money, but that’s neither here nor there), starts detailing his childhood in Hong Kong. He specifies how he attended a boarding school where he didn’t speak the language, felt out of place and friendless *cue tiniest violin music*, etcetera etcetera. Yet seventy percent in, the school is suddenly located in Japan, and no mention of Cal’s Chinese education is ever brought up again.
That absolutely checks out.
[Sounds of IQ plummeting]
⟾ 3) A remark is made of Cal’s sole possession that he kept after his family’s belongings were confiscated, all following his rich father’s incarceration. Considering he is a type one diabetic, you would think it’s probably something related to that, right? A way to check his insulin levels? Perhaps a few doses of his medication?
Well…
He kept his Xbox instead. And not even that managed to remain unscathed, because past the sixty-five percent mark, the console magically turned into a PS4. That’s right, not even inanimate objects were safe from this mess.
⟾ 4) When Gideon’s best friend, Dev, is first introduced, we get a brief interaction discussing their shared upbringing, with Dev making a point of mentioning how they both “came from the hood.” Yet the next time the bff appears on-page, suddenly there’s talk about the small rural town Gideon and him supposedly grew up in. Only to have Gideon just a few chapters later AGAIN referencing the “hood” and trying to claim some kind of misguided “street cred.”
Meanwhile...
Me trying to figure out where the hell this so-called rural hood was located. Geographically, I’m guessing Narnia.
But with that out of the way (and keeping in mind those are just the more glaring plot holes in a laundry list of them), let’s move onto the second list:
THE BIZARRE HAPPENINGS
⟾ 1) Cal being able to secure a spot in Harvard and several other Ivy League schools despite missing several days of class, not doing homework once, and spending most of his time either playing Mortal Combat (not a typo, that’s just how Onley wrote it 💀) on hisXbox PS4 or being fucked within an inch of his life.
This was such a beautiful fantasy, Cal might as well have gotten a letter from Hogwarts.
⟾ 2) Gideon becoming an undercover agent for the FBI (and yes, I am again not making this shit up!!!) and dismantling a college admission-related scam the federal government had been trying to take down for YEARS. And he does it all with a single three-minute visit to one of the leaders of the corrupted operation, who spills the beans as soon as they start chatting over tea.
Because who wouldn’t confess the details of their billion-dollar scheme to a man who you know for a fact dislikes you and has even THREATENED you previously? (Barely four chapters ago, I should add)
Equality was reached in this book, since everyone was equally stupid.
⟾ 3) A small niggle but Cal, the soon-to-be spouse of what I’m assuming by now is a shapeshifting daddy billionaire, takes a spot for a full scholarship from Harvard. Which not only did he not deserve (see the point about him being a lazy human being above), but he also did NOT need. Geez Louise, leave the spot for someone without a billionaire Daddy, ya jerk!!
⟾ 4) When Cal shows up with Gideon at the bar to meet up with his friends, NOBODY comments on the boy’s age or even acknowledges it. Now, I could perhaps give this a pass under different circumstances, but let’s recap… Cal is nineteen, so underage according to US laws, and therefore gets a bracelet from the bar stating he’s not able to drink due to that. Yet Gideon’s friends, who know he is the headmaster of a high school, notice all of these things and don’t ask ANY questions?
If you add on top of that the fact that Cal gets described on several occasions as looking small and cherub-like…
The only appropriate response before checking ID.
⟾ 5) In the most casual manner ever, after the fraud is settled and things start returning back to normal, Gideon proceeds to blackmail the rest of the billion-dollar scam figureheads, promising to leave out their names from the records if they get back Cal's spot onHogwarts I mean Harvard (since the offer and scholarship were rescinded following some more plot shenanigans).
While the gesture was presented as sweet and thoughtful, I couldn't help but think this man was literally helping two crooked criminals stay out of jail… just to, once again, get Cal a full ride to college that he, as a BILLIONAIRE DADDY, could easily afford.
If I stop responding, just know that it’s because I lost my cognitive abilities. Please further my medical bill to the author.
⟾ 6) The dog incident. Right at the end and before the epilogue, considering we obviously didn’t have enough melodrama already, Cal's dog gets run over by his arch-nemesis Percival The Third (and no, that’s not his actual name, but I cannot be bothered to look it up)
Subsequently, the dog ends up being taken to the practice of Gideon’s veterinary friend, they argue about putting the poor animal to sleep, and then a miraculous recovery takes place at the very last second. Again, all in the final chapter of the damn book!
This doesn’t even feel like it needs to be said, but anyway...
And IT WAS!
⟾ 7) After that, the epilogue happens. Cal goes toHogwarts Harvard, Gideon gets his new job in Boston (also procured via blackmail), they adopt four dogs together (despite having their previous one run over due to their carelessness, but okay), and they get engaged off-page at some point too. The author, however, apparently decided that was not worth showing, and instead, we get to read about Cal reminiscing with Gideon about the last blowjob he gave the guy while driving at night on the freeway.
Which apparently is an epilogue worthy detail. And a clear sign these two have a death wish, so I guess now we know why a sequel never happened. As I have stated before, foolishness is a terminal illness... and these two are textbook examples.

What did I learn? Hot smut does not a good story make. Sure, the first few chapters were great, when the focus was in the budding relationship, newfound closeness, and all the dirty details. But as soon as a little thing called plot decided to worm its way in, as you can already surmise from my review, my enjoyment levels dropped quicker than my brain cells.
Between the gratuitous twists, the various issues with consistency, and the sheer absurdity on display, not even the hot sex scenes could salvage this one for me.

Gideon aka Daddy and Callum had some hot chemistry and hot sex together. Their relationship made me enjoy this book more.
I was on board with the age gap. Made me want a Daddy of my own. Those detention scenes.. Gaaaah. Phantom orgasms gallore. 😍
I wanted to give it 5 stars based on the chemistry and Gideon and Cullum's relationship but i just couldn't ignore the OTT aunt Becky's background story. Ugh. It was all uneccesary especially how everyone was out to get Cal. 😫
Overall, it was hot and i enjoyed it.

I'm late to the party with this one, but the hotness factor was out of this world: age gap, teacher/student, kink, Daddy/boy, mild BDSM (bondage, spanking, cum play), dirty talk ... just wow, 14/10 would recommend.
Even though the sex was the highlight of the story, the MCs were complex and the the plot provided enough tension that I was never bored.
The HEA was naughty & nice, with a twist of sweet revenge.
I predict more Onley James books in my future.

I buddy read this with Candy about 3 months ago and I have never been motivated enough to do a review for it.
But I just wanted to leave this here.
This is exactly how I pictured Gideon when this school’s headmaster with no qualifications randomly helped the FBI in an important investigation at 85% into the book. Which, I must mention, was one of the least ridiculous and OTT side plot in the book. Which isn’t hard when the other side plots include a kid who’s homeless and doesn’t have money to buy insulin (he’s diabetic) but kept his playstation and an entire team of board members who ganged up on a student so they could kick him out of their school, for no real reason, except that they are all evil.
At least it was very hot for the most part, so it did have that going for it, but sadly even that couldn’t save the ridiculousness of the plot.
But I just wanted to leave this here.

Woah buddy!!!
From beginning to end this was the steamiest, smuttiest little story and I was living for it! Seriously! Pretty sure I almost came at a few points.
Cal’s lonely life has turned to shit and he needs money to pay for life saving insulin. So, his buddy hooks him up with a job, the sex worker variety.
And this is where Gideon comes into play. He’s a Daddy Dom that doesn’t like repeat little boys. But I think they both get more than they bargained for after their fucktastic night together. Yet they still go their separate ways.
But of course fate ain’t having none of that. Because when Cal returns to school guess who the temporary headmaster is. If you assumed a certain Daddy, you’d be 100% correct.
Blackmail, lying, hiding, cheating and so much more naughtiness ensues.
I loved that Gideon had no fucks to give, he didn’t just go out on a limb for his boy, he burned the whole damn tree down.
My only complaint is the excessive use of the endearment Daddy. And I’m a girl who loves her dirty daddies, but this one used it into the ground.
Otherwise, a perfect piece of kinky erotica with a bit of educational type scandal thrown in.

*phew - this was one hell of a ride. If my rating is any indication it’s obvious I loved it. I couldn’t put it down!
This was like a kinky Cinderella fairy tale. Only MM. And with a Prince Charming who had once been Cinderella himself.
Even as I am not that big neither on BDSM nor Daddy-kink I was enjoying this story so very much. And in case anyone is wondering, we’re also talking a 25yrs age-gap here.

Really, how he cared for Cal’s well-being and his opportunities in life - it was so perfect. All these small and big gestures. The medical ID bracelet *cry And while he did all that for Cal he had his own past, his own issues and his own doubts to deal with.
And Cal? Well he was smart and mouthy and so sweet and in desperate need for everything Gideon wanted to give him so freely anyway. They just were perfect for each other. ♡♡
And people really. There was one scene at about 80% where my heart nearly stopped. I couldn’t believe what tf was happening. But… turned out it was only just a dreeeaaaam… haha *lol
And after that shit got really exciting, but of course I won’t let you in on that. You have to find out for yourself *evil laughter

I share D.L.’s opinion that the term "Daddy“ has been used far too often for my liking as well. This started out really good. There were parts I really enjoyed. But somehow it slowly went downhill and I came to the conclusion that this book had too much going on for me to truly enjoy it.
19 year old Callum is broke. Very very broke. He only needs to survive for 6 weeks and then he can graduate and go to college. He’s living with a friend and trying to make enough money for his insulin, since he is diabetic.
And that’s why he agrees to become a rent boy and have sex for money with one very wealthy client.
And that’s how Cal meets Gideon. 44 years old, super hot, very dominant, and very rich. But also caring and tender. And that’s not what Cal expected. He kind of wants more than one night with Gideon, but the man never hires the same boy twice.
When Callum goes to school after his one and only rent boy experience, he still feels out of sorts. And when he meets the new interim headmaster, he doesn’t know what to think. The new headmaster is Gideon.
Gideon immediately recognizes the beautiful boy as his last companion. But he also sees how much the boy is struggling with life. The teachers seem to have it in for him and the other students harass him or even beat him up.
When Callum is kicked out of his temporary home and has to live on the streets, he doesn’t know what to do. And when he runs out of medicine, he gets disoriented and only remembers he has Gideon’s number. But luckily Gideon immediately comes to the rescue….
This should have been a total winner. Even when I’m recapping the story it sounds like the perfect book for me. But there were just some things that bothered me.
First thing that started to bother me was that this book had too much sex for me. I felt these guys were constantly sexing their problems away (not the problems within the relationship, just the internal issues they both had).
But I do have to admit that I did like the first sex scene where Callum was a rent boy and Gideon was his client, I was glad it wasn’t all sex sex sex, and that there was a lot of emotion between them from the start.
I also liked how Gideon took care of Callum and how much hurt/comfort this book had.
But…. the second half just wasn’t as good as the first half. I was really disappointed in the whole school conspiracy theory thing. I felt the story went completely off the rails with that and lost its focus from Callum and Gideon’s relationship.
I also felt that the issues with Gideon’s previous marriage could have been addressed just a bit more. Now I felt like the book was trying to get too much story into too little pages.
Just an example, Callum got at 93%. I felt that it was incredibly weird to add something so big into the last 7%. Now it never got the proper attention that scene deserved. It was rushed and kind of swept under the rug.
So while I liked the first half, I wasn’t a terrible fan of the second half. :(

I would have enjoyed it a lot more if the eventual plot was expanded on throughout the book, and not just added as what felt like an afterthought, almost. I mean, it’s well-written smut with some fun moments as well as some sad moments, so of course I enjoyed it, but there is something as too much of a good thing.

His client is Gideon - but what he doesn't know is that Gideon is also the temporary new head master at Callum's school. When they meet at school, Callum's original idea is one of blackmail. But as the two continue their physical relationship, all the feels come out to play.
I LOVED these two together! CRAZY hot chemistry, great verbal banter back and forth, and I just love how wonderful Gideon was to Cal. This is my favorite type of daddy kink - older man caring for the younger man and giving him a good, secure space for him to grow and flourish and become his own person, while still needing his Daddy. I love that Gideon was able to provide for Cal and that also allowed Gideon to heal from his own past and start moving forward as well. These two were just so perfect for each other!
I love all the attention to detail with Cal's diabetes and also the conflict that comes up later in the story. There are some crazy hot scenes in here, plot and drama, and all the feels! AH that ending!

ETA 4/18/20 - I don't know if the full story will show up as a separate book or not, so I'm just adding my review here for now. OMG I just finished the full edition of this book and it's WONDERFUL!
Callum is a 19 year old high school student who's had to resort to a night of sex work to make some money. His client is Gideon - but what he doesn't know is that Gideon is also the temporary new head master at Callum's school. When they meet at school, Callum's original idea is one of blackmail. But as the two continue their physical relationship, all the feels come out to play.
I LOVED these two together! CRAZY hot chemistry, great verbal banter back and forth, and I just love how wonderful Gideon was to Cal. This is my favorite type of daddy kink - older man caring for the younger man and giving him a good, secure space for him to grow and flourish and become his own person, while still needing his Daddy. I love that Gideon was able to provide for Cal and that also allowed Gideon to heal from his own past and start moving forward as well. These two were just so perfect for each other!
I love all the attention to detail with Cal's diabetes and also the conflict that comes up later in the story. There are some crazy hot scenes in here, plot and drama, and all the feels! AH that ending!
Just loved it. Everything from this author is a 5 star read. I can't wait for what she has next (Jackson's story, PLEASE!)

I guess it is both weird and thrilling to read a character who shared the same name as you. The Cal here is getting it on with his Daddy Dom while the Cal typing this review is busy playing Breath of the Wild and reading his mm romance books.
My biggest and only concern here is that it didn't wow me or anything. It kept me interested somehow but no 'It' factor really. And where's the blackmail bonanza? The blurb sounded so good and intriguing because apparently the student blackmails this person of authority but it didn't really happen. The romance was good and love how the sex is filthy hot. On to the next!

This was an angsty, emotional, sexy, filthy, and completely engrossing story. Cal and Gideon were sweet, passionate, and just fit each other. There's sex in almost every chapter, I had to take a break because I feel exhausted from reading too much sizzling hot sex, but there's enough of a plot here to carry things along. It's a great book. There were few unrealistic moments, but I was so engrossed in the story that I couldn't bother. The sex scenes were smoking HOT and fun to read. First book I've read by this author and and if the others are this good it won’t be my last.

That first chapter had me hooked! I loved Onley James’ writing style. The characters come alive with her words. The conflict and the eventual resolution was so justified. I felt for Callum and the horrible things that happened to him. I’m just so glad Gideon was there for him throughout. Daddy Kink that worked for me, the ending was perfect. I’m definitely reading more of Ms. James’ books.

This book. THIS BOOK. I wanted to read a daddy romance so bad. Like I was going through withdrawals. And Miss James delivered. I’ve been wanting to read this for so long, but I kept putting it off. And now I could kick myself. I loved this book.
So basically Cal is broke. Broke broke. His dad stole money from all his rich friend’s parents in some scheme and went to prison. And now everyone hates Cal. Which is stupid. But anyway. Cal needs to make money. His friend recommends him for this guy that pays for a boy for them to do hot BDSM sex. Cal has never done the boy/daddy thing, but it’s only one night. The man never does repeats. So it’ll be fine. Cal also really needs the money because he’s a diabetic and he needs to pay for his insulin. He never realized how well he’d fall into the boy/daddy scene, and how much he can’t stop thinking of Gideon. Never fear though, Cal. Because he meets Gideon again in a few days. Because Gideon is his schools new headmaster. Drama!!! Cal tried to blackmail Gideon into having more sex, but it didn’t work because Gideon already wanted Cal again. They decided they would sleep with each other for only 6 weeks, until the end of the term. Then they were done. Don’t you just love how that’s how it always works? LOL
Btw Cal is 19. He’s in high school still, but he is over the age of consent. There is also quite a bit age gap. Gideon is like 43?? If you’re into that, then read it.

Well I really enjoyed that! Not only is the storyline a creative twist on an old favorite, but Onley James adds in some nice daddy-boy kink and D/s exchanges which work well in advancing the development of the relationship. That opening scene is fantastic.
The break out character for me is Leo, who grows quite a bit emotionally over the course of Disciplinary Action. He's got an interesting backstory, and one day I'd love to get Leo and Grant's story.

I love Onley James' writing and decided to give Disciplinary Action a chance (after sitting in my tbr for a long time).
I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed this book so much. We have an age gap, Daddy, BDSM, headmaster/student, hurt/comfort. This book had everything. The spice was sooooo good (and took a big part of this book 🤤).
But mostly I enjoyed the connection Gideon and Cal built. How genuine, heart-melting, tender, hot, and overall beautiful it was.

This was such an unexpected delight! I loved it!
Cal is a 19-year-old high school senior (he was held back a grade for reasons you find out when you read), about 6ish weeks away from graduating high school. Except this is about to be some of the absolute and absolute best 6 weeks of his life.
Cal grew up in a wealthy family, seemingly never wanting for anything and taking many things for granted - except his father, who couldn't seem to care less about him his whole life - when his father goes to jail for swindling people and generally being a crook, and losing all their money, basically. His mother died when he was young, so Cal has to stay with his best friend just to not be homeless, and Cal is then ostracized at his expensive private high school, by students and teachers/staff alike, all for what his father did.
He's also a Type 1 Diabetic, and his insulin costs about 1500 a pop, which Cal can barely afford anymore and has to ration it to the point that it barely does anything that it's supposed to keep Cal alive. It's enough to keep him going, but barely. (And this shit...is a very real thing. And I bet Cal didn't have insurance after everything that happened, so he had to pay the full price...as many Americans have to in this country without insurance...hell I have a family member who DOES have insurance and still has to pay 300 bucks out of pocket for his. It's fucking ridiculous. BUT now is not the time to rant about this, so I digress.)
So since his best friend is a prostitute, Cal also tries to become one, and his first client is a man named Gideon. a 43-year-old wealthy man who has his own painful past and a husband who has been dead six years.
Even though he's playing "Daddy" and Cal is "boy", they hit it off right away, even though they try to tell themselves it's just once, since Gideon has a rule of not fucking the same boy twice. But...well, as this is also a romance, that goes out the window right quick.
Especially when the next week after their one intense night together, it turns out that Gideon is taking over an Interim headmaster at Cal's private school while the regular one recovers from surgery. So...they can't exactly stay away from each other after that....
I think what I loved most about this was that it was more than just erotica. I mean that part was amazing too and this was still heavily focused on the sex, but there was more a story than other erotica type books I've read and it was written well and worked well with the story.
The sex is definitely kinky in this, these two were really fucking hot together, but they were also incredibly sweet together. I think my most favorite thing is that Gideon did it right. He wanted to dominate Cal in the bedroom, sure, and in some areas outside of it, in a smaller way, sure, but mainly he just wanted to take care of Cal, and Cal loved that. Cal, who had been denied so much love and care throughout his life, got it with Gideon. And Cal was the perfect submissive to Gideon's dominant, but Gideon never overpowered him, he never made decisions for him, he never tries to complete overtake Cal. He was actually caring. Firm but kind. Stern but sweet. He always wanted Cal to safe word, and even said multiple times he would not be happy if Cal was in the red and did not say so to try to please him.
This is a great Daddy!kink book that is so much more than just Daddy!kink.

The beginning of this was all kids of sexy and adorable with a side of “Gideon, go get your boy before I start to cry”. But then they moved in together and far out...way too much sex and no real relationship growth. And then the “drama” happened and it went on and on and on and on. I didn’t find it particularly interesting and it sucked all the wind out of the romance’s sails. ILY’s came too soon and of course everything was going to be ok in the end because Daddy has a gagillion dollars as backup. I skimmed the last 35%. Safe to say this was not my jam. YMMV.

I really struggled to get into this one. There was just so much going on, and it was all so OTT, that I kind of lost the point of the story and ended up with a headache.

I really like Onley James as an author. I dislike that I have to purchase all their books 😒 but I DO IT ANYWAY cause I have no self control.
Anyway, I really liked this! Had so much fun with it actually. The age gap didn’t feel ick to me which is a rare occurrence given our baby boy is technically in high school 🥲 I know, I’m sorry, I promise he’s actually almost 20 and it somehow makes sense don’t ask questions.
The fact there was actually a plot and a plot that was interesting was what bumped this up to a 4⭐️ read for me. It’s nothing crazy but there is something more going on here than just poor Cal getting bullied at school. I LOVED the final resolution. You can see it’s the same author who wrote the Necessary Evils series cause there’s some actual thought put into it.
The smut was a little repetitive to me in the end ngl. And given Leo is supposedly into some sadistic shit we don’t really actually see that play out, so it’s fairly tame, HOWEVER I just loved them. Leo and Cal are soooo sweet and cute together and 🩵🩵🩵
It’s verrrrrry insta-love but somehow it worked for me even tho I usually hate that.

I'm a bit torn on this book, but overall I think I liked it?
I enjoyed the first half way more than the second half because as soon as the pet name “dirty boy” was introduced it took me out of nearly every sex scene. I can’t imagine someone saying that out loud and it not sounding super cringe. Also, the pacing started to slog in the middle of the book.
However, the taboo set-up between the two MCs had me hooked and I'm always a sucker for the hurt/comfort trope. Plus, I was pretty entertained by the plot, even though it got increasingly OTT.
If any part of the blurb intrigues you, then I think it's worth giving a try.
