Read this during my stay at the getaway cabin and then ordered a copy to keep at home because I plan to revisit it.

There are a number of things this book suggests that I already do that I plan to do more regularly, but far more things I hadn’t thought of that I’d like to incorporate into my life. I took notes and meditated during my walk on the nature trail.

I feel like finding this book in your Postcard cabin is a bit like preaching to the choir, but there are those that probably need the extra push or even a gentle reminder (*raises hand* Hello, its me. I came here to find my creativity, but immediately got distracted by a book that is literally about getting away from distractions).

I chuckled at the first few chapters about silencing your phone, even putting it in a lockbox, lest one be tempted. Upon arrival my phone both notified me that I had the barest whiff of cell service and I had no extra memory that my phone refused to even contemplate opening my camera app for me. Honestly, if the cell network hadn't forced my flip phone into becoming obsolete, I would still have it. And yes, I did consider the newer model of flip phone before buying into a smart phone 5 years ago.

Just looking at trees can can reduce our blood pressure and stress hormones.

Except when said trees are within 10 feet of your home during a severe thunderstorm. Then they increase both of the aforementioned. The first thing I did upon existing my car was look up for widow makers. But I will concede the point being made as I spent the first 10 minutes of my stay nursing a beer while gazing up at the canopy of pine needles, while listening the various birds chirping and whistling.

It goes on to encourage people to not just go outside more, but put it to purpose within your daily life. I, for one, do miss my commute that involved walking to/from bus stops. I miss not having a car and living in a walkable city.

This book told me to read more. Honestly, I should probably read less, but you won't catch me arguing.

There's a chapter on Asking Your Loved One Deep Questions. One of which being being: Do you have a hunch about how you will die? Yes, in fact, I believe it will involve sharks. Or, alternatively, choking while home alone.

In general, I don't feel as if I'm the target audience for this book as I do or have done most of its suggestions. Though I will grant that since becoming a single mom, it has been harder to keep up with taking breaks for myself or getting back to the simple things I enjoy. Hence the very reason I am currently reading this book outside my cozy cabin with the mosquitoes for company and the flash of lightning bugs in my peripherals. Though there have been a few chapters to call me out, like those about decluttering and the myth of multi-tasking (I dare you to name a receptionist who isn't interruptted during every task they set out to do). And I fully support embracing the Swedish art of Fika breaks. Say less. Tomorrow I shall try a forest bath.

Let me conclude with my own six word story: Lost in woods. Don't send help.

I picked up this book during my getaway stay at a Getaway cabin. Really love the idea of the brand and the design of the cabins and how I was able to connect to nature & myself. The book was written by the CEO/Founder of Getaway, I enjoy how these mindfulness practices can be easily applied to my daily life without having to move to the woods permanently. But I will definitely go back to the cabin!

When I book my Getaway cabin stays, I usually come with a stack of self-help books. I would classify this book as a collection of simplifying a lot of the takeaways in those other pieces into a single, well-written reference material. I approached this book with a negative opinion, based on my preconceived notions of successful start-up management, and closed the cover amazed and thankful for the opportunity to read these pages on this visit.

I loved this book! Each of the practices has great information about it and then easy ways to try it out in your own life. It covers so many topics and has great ways to improve your life. I found it on display at the library, but this is one that I would totally buy and add to my personal library. I would definitely recommend it to everyone!

Maybe it was because I read their first book right before this, but many of the sections were quoted verbatim. It’s a very practical book with some good suggestions, backed by ample research.

I found this in my Getaway cabin and it was the perfect read for a rainy evening in the woods. Highly practical. Some great new ideas here and some old ones that it was good to be reminded of.

虽然是心灵鸡汤,但也确实很给人启发。往随身笔记里摘抄了好几条很喜欢的点。希望自己也可以做到!
