It was a wicked cool idea that this Christmas ornament was a lucky charm . Or more than that. A guardian angel. (...)

I'm swooning big time here.

Get ready for the cuteness people...

Take one Angel tree topper,a whole lot of meddling, some truly engaging characters and you get an utterly charming story that you won't want to miss.

Pax Polo, guitarist for Serenity Free,is slinky, sexy, charismatic and he's going to need his meddling skills to be on top form to get himself out of his current situation.Kicked out of his band a few weeks before Christmas, ever the optimist,he can manoeuvre things to his advantage, right?

What he hadn't bargained on was Clifford......a bit grumpy, just a bit serious but Pax can charm to birds from the trees ......but who's playing who??

Clifford's younger sister has two suitors....Luca and Henry. All Pax has to do is distract Clifford and let the battle commence,he's routing for Luca who he's staying with but Henry has connections that would get him back into favour with his band.

A modern take on The Taming of the Shrew

As usual with this Author the banter is delicious.Pax sets about his mission with great enthusiasm. There's a ton of hilarious exchanges between the characters and heart warming moments....and the Angel is always present seeming to sprinkle magic all around...

Will Pax achieve his goal or find that he was looking for something completely different all along?

And the Epilogue was just perfection...

Highly recommended.

I kind of have mixed feelings about this latest Anyta Sunday read.

I loved the snark, banter, and games between Pax and Cliff, which flowed naturally on the page and felt extremely believable.

Pax was a bit of a mess and Cliff was entirely too put together for his own good, so seeing Pax try to unravel his perfectly-ordered life was so much fun to read.

However, for this to have been an M/M romance, the first half of the book didn't truly feel either gay-related *or* that a romance was inevitable -- except possibly for Cliff's 17 y.o. sister, Bianca.

Yes guys, this one had a frustratingly slooooooooow burn, which, for me at least, made the story feel very, very long, as I read and read and read, then looked at the page count and my eyes bugged out a bit.

At 52% in, when the cat was let out of the Big Gay Bag, that's when the actual romantic feelings began to flow, and the pacing of the story finally took off.

While the snark and banter were completely on-point, some of the jokes were, well, the only way I can really describe them would be to say that they spiked pretty high on the old corn-o-meter.

I adored the friendship between Pax and Luca, and their plotting to get Luca and Bianca together. And the parts with Pax hiding in Cliff's tree and constantly stealing into Cliff's bedroom via the trellis, damn if that didn't make me laugh again and again.

The steam was done very well, as there was just enough, but the bedroom wallpaper was never in danger of being singed to a crisp and bursting into flames.

Most of the angst here was from Pax deciding what he should do with his life in regards to rejoining the assholes in his band vs. doing what would make him truly happy.

But I was thrilled to see that, when Cliff finally was told exactly why Pax had originally befriended him, we didn't get a trite, expected Huge Break Up scene, as Cliff was sad, but not truly angry.

So while there were a few things that I might've changed about this story, I'd still recommend it and rate it at around 3.5 stars.

A charmingly vain rogue plays games with the overbearing older brother next door.

Who ends up winning surprises, well, one of them.

This New Zealand set (read: summer) Christmas MM romance is loosely based on Shakespeare's comedy: The Taming of The Shrew. And a sort of homage to the awesome, 90s rom-com 10 Things I Hate About You.

So many people to thank for the creation of this romance. Cheerleaders, beta-readers, editors, proofreaders. Vir, Sunne, Heather K, Silvia, Vicki, Heather at HJs Editing, Wolfgang Eulenberg, Becky, and Olivia. Thank you all so much for guiding me in the creation of this novel. <3 You guys bring the magic.

And a special thanks to Eli Easton who is an incredible author (who I was SO privileged to meet in Amsterdam this year), and who thought of asking me to join this group of amazing authors to write a story in The Christmas Angel series alongside Jordan L. Hawk, Kim Fielding, N.R. Walker, R.J. Scott and L.A. Witt.

I'm super honored and I have really loved the process. <3

And thank you readers for reading! <3 <3 <3

Based on Shakespeare’s Taming the Shrew and kinda 10 things I hate about you style, this is a Christmas story that shows us how important friendship is and how it fills your life. How you can find love when you’re not looking for it, when you don’t know even what love is.

The story is cute, funny and sexy in its slow burn. The banter, as Anyta’s trade mark, is so good, and it says, no, scratch that, it shows what its needed to be shown.

Pax Polo is not what he looks like, he’s not what he tries to look like and I liked him from page one because I knew he wasn’t that pretty boy with the huge ego and nothing more to offer.
My favorite character was Cliff tho. The grumpy neighbor, the hot smart guy with a sad past. I loved him. I understood him and he made me laugh.

Great story, with great characters and a meaningful angel. That’s what this is. And the epilogue is sweet and romantic and summarizes the essence of this Christmas tale.

Go and read it!

The superb sloooooow burn talents of Anyta Sunday, a retelling of one of my favourite Shakespeare comedies, throw away lines referencing one of my favourite musicals (Taming of the Shrew and Kiss Me Kate respectively) and our interfering Christmas Angel conspire to produce a genius festive romance.

Cliff and Pax are fabulous, there's a whole host of wondrous secondary characters, the New Zealand setting is subtle and the nods to the both the original source material and to the amazing MGM musical, made this one of my favourites in this completely brilliant series.

It was a wicked cool idea that this Christmas ornament was a lucky charm. Or more than that. A guardian angel.

I can only whole-heartedly agree!

I was even more delighted at the thought that Anyta Sunday modelled this book on the 'Taming of the Shrew' which is my favourite Shakespeare play of all times!

And let me tell you: this lady did a crack(l)ing job here!

Not only do we get a plethora of hilarious banter and a cute, lighthearted romance, but we are witness to some of the best verbal sparring I've come across. The sparks are flying wildly in all directions every time when Pax and Cliff are anywhere near each other! (And that is not only down to their very different natures: Cliff - dedicated, (too) hard working and Pax - a joker and schemer who's 'passionately dedicated to getting what he wants')

Cliff: "This is not a stage. None of your fans are here drooling over your ridiculously angelic face, and even if the you were, you can be sure they wouldn't see a star, but a ... starfish. Red all over and wet with sweat."

(Pax) "Now I not only wonder if you know what a friend is, I wonder if you know what a neighbour is." Cliff leaned toward him and spoke in hushed tones. "It's someone who stays on their side of the fence."

Cliff to Pax: "Next time I make muffins, I'm adding whole wheat flour." Pax was puzzled.... "Perhaps it'll add the necessary amount of moral fibre that is currently missing."

The thing is:
Cliff is overprotective of his sister Bianca (she's 17) and won't let her go out with guys at all. But Luca, Pax's new roommate, and Henry, the next door neighbour, both have a serious crush on her. So Pax takes it upon himself to distract Cliff so the guys get a chance to see her, and a little bribe from Henry promising Pax the gig of his dreams if he succeeds motivates him even further ...

But does he succeed with his 'subversive' methods? Or has he found an even match in Cliff?
Let me tell you that there is some incredibly clever writing going on here!

Most importantly, next to all the fire, the 'insults', the 'digging at each other for the fun of it' between these two, there is also tenderness and gentleness and vulnerability.

Just the one thing ... Not that it really mattered!

So while Miss Sunday does a stellar job at paying homage to a great play, she entertains and delights and finds some very satisfying solutions for her characters. A really lovely Christmas story!

I was delighted to find out at the end that quite a few other authors have picked up the 'magic angel' theme to create 'The Christmas Angel Series'. I certainly can't wait to read more!

*beta read an unedited version*

This book is a M/M romance set in New Zealand featuring music, found families and enemies to lovers. It's not too heavy on the Xmas element which is something I appreciated a lot since I'm not big on Xmas. If you're into the genre and are looking forward to some slightly xmasy romances I can definitely recommend it!

Shrewd Angel is such a cute read full with shenanigans from guitarist Pax Polo trying to tame the neighborhood shrew, Cliff. Pax had moved into a new neighborhood after gotten kicked out of his band and feeling all sorry for himself. But he had a new task in hand, distract the shrew and help his new friends, Luca and Henry to date Cliff's sister and Pax might just get his wish granted.

To be honest, I don't know why is Luca and Henry is all over Bianca, but Pax shamelessly flirtatious technique and crazy shenanigans to distract Cliff was funny as hell. Cliff is all preppy and uptight and is interesting to see how he see how Pax wore him down and learn to enjoy Christmas again. Add on with Anyta's trademark snark and banter, this is guaranteed to tickle your funny bone and left you swoon over.

“Just because I’m gay and you’re gay, doesn’t mean we should be gay together.” Pax rested his head back against Cliff’s shoulder. “No, but I’m a dick, and you’re a dick, and we both like dick, so . . .”

So...
it's kinda hard to write this.
I love Anyta's books, almost all of them. Sorry that this one didn't really work for me.
I like slow burn, enemy to lovers, friends to lovers and I love Anyta's books :(
I really wanted to love this book, but I can't. All my friends loved it, and I was trying to find out where did I go wrong with this.
I liked Pax, I like Cliff, but...
I liked the story premise, but...
I wanted to praise this book, but...
I wanted to enjoy this book, but...
I felt bored, and tired, and cannot wait to finished this book so I can start the new one.
I love the series, this was an okay, fun, adorable story, but not my favorite of Anyta and the series over all.
I'm sure this time, it's not the book, it's me. Because all my friends loved it, and I didn't :(

Qué bien escribe Anyta ... me encanta ...

I loved both main characters. The banter between them was fun. And true to Anyta Sunday-style, it was very slow burn.
At first I found the plot too complicated, but I got over it.

The main problem for me was that in the first half of the book, there was no indication of the attraction. At least not that was said out loud or in the narration. You had to look for it with a magnifying glass. I guess I'm used to characters who are always expressing themselves right from the beginning "uh I like this guy, he's hot, I wanna bone him". There was nothing like it here. There was barely a mention of "a lock of hair fell into his eyes" and "oh he smells citrusy". It was only hinted at in very subtle ways that Pax was attracted to Cliff. You had to see behind his words. Cliff too, for that matter. He gave little hints with his actions.

But. I was fine with that. I thought they might slowly get to touching and hugging, than kissing. And it would have been a mellow read without sex, or even fade to black. Except around the halfway point, they jumped each other. It came out of the blue. And I didn't feel this sudden change. It was weird. Not saying I didn't like the sexy times. Coz, yeah once they reached the bed the chemistry was great. :) It's just that there was no... uhm... it's like they skipped a step. (This situation reminded me of Mary Calmes' All Kinds of Tied Down. But there at least the reader was aware of the attraction. You had to be blind not to see it. Ha! :) And it was said in the narration too. Here, not a peep.)

Also the last few chapters were a little cheesy. But overall I had fun.

Full Disclosure: I'm the author of another book in this series. But each book is a standalone, written independently by the author, so I can have some objectivity.

I loved this slow-burn story with music, snarky dialogue, and fun supporting characters. I was rooting for Pax and Cliff, and I bet you will be too. And although there's a lot of humor in this story, there's also depth of feeling as both guys deal with their issues.

I think I’m going to be on my own on this one as I’m thinking this is going to be one of those It’s me not you situations
Everyone I can see enjoyed this one and I just didn’t.
It’s well written but I didn’t really like either character and I had to push myself to finish it.
The side characters were good, but being in Pax’s head was hard
The banter didn’t work for me and to be honest I just didn’t feel the connection between the two guys

Fuck, this was wonderful. Anyta really outdoes herself in this one, like, the slow-burn has its own slow-burn (that didn't make sense, but it's not there for that).
I loved these characters and the process of personal growth they draw out of each other, as they grow closer to each other.
This was all kinds of heart-warming and feel-good, like I hadn't read in a while. Just the thing I was in the mood for, and sort of in desperate need of. Anyta always has my back and I can't properly put into words how much my heart thanks her for this.

I enjoyed this installment of the Christmas Angel books but I didn't buy into Pax or Cliff as a couple. Not until the very end. But more, I felt left out as I read the story. I may be the only adult in the US who has not read The Taming of the Shrew so I was lost among the references and innuendo related to the story. I also don't want TV (because books!) and don't listen to much music (because audiobooks!) so references to songs and groups and other contemporary issues lost me.

I never did quite get the very end either. Sounded like Cliff's sister picked one of the guys but the other was with a guy? Maybe? Lost again. So though I enjoyed the writing and the slow build of the romance, it was over my head.
