Chancery may be the youngest ruler of the Evians, but she won her first battle. Thanks to her success, the powers ruling the rest of the Earth are aligning against her, and her supporters’ demands grow with every passing day.

Her days of hiding are over…

A five thousand year old prophecy and a dull black rock ruined the life Chancery planned for herself. As she navigates the roiling waters of ancient prejudice, assassination, war, and refugees, she discovers how deeply unprepared she was to assume this unwanted role.

But standing tall makes you a target.

She isn’t alone, but everyone around her is working an angle. Noah’s missing, Edam’s planning their wedding, and the rulers of the Evian nations watch her every move like hungry panthers ready to pounce. A prophecy may have led her to this point, but the rest is up to her. Can she locate the true threat amid the school of red herrings? And what price is she willing to pay to prevent the threatened catastrophe?

description

Lately I've been of the opinion that the shorter the series the better, but this one is an exception. None of these books feel like filler, and that can be hard to do when writing a series. Five books in and I'm still enjoying this series. I think it helps that three of the books are told from other points of view. It's an interesting and potentially risky way to write a series, but it works here.

This time around Chancery seems to be in over her head. I'm really wondering how everything is going to be sorted out in the end. She is learning how to use the ring that she inherited from her mother. As it keeps growing in size and power with each stone that is added to it, she continues to question herself and her abilities, but she is also slowly growing in confidence. There were times I got a little annoyed with her for blaming herself for things that weren't her fault, and making some seemingly rash decisions, but she is still growing.

As for the love triangle, Edam is still my favorite love interest, but now Noah has grown on me a bit. I like that he isn't pushy and is supportive, but the chemistry between Chancery and Edam is still off the charts! I swear I have no idea who Chancery will end up with.

In the end, there were some important revelations in this book, and also some things that I was left wondering about. Bridget Baker's books always seem to end with a good balance of the two. As usual, I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Written from Chancery's perspective.

Time moves forward in this book without a hitch. There is many action scenes that unfold within. So many scenes within scenes as well.

Chancery gets a chance to figure out who her mother's killer could have possibly been. She finds out more about Noah. War is seen on the horizon.

So many great scenes in here and still more to read, I personally can't wait to read the next and find out more about Inora and find out why she did what she had done in Melina's book, I have some inklings on it, but nothing solid of course.

Great job as always and on to the next one. This one took more time cause I have had some things happening and haven't been able to read as much as I want to.

I absolutely loved this series, it's a must read.
Epic interwoven stories with monumental twists and turns you don't see coming, desperation, love, trust, betrayal and fate keep the reader on edge.
I wish I could see it on screen, it would be a blockbuster.

DNF after chapter 18. I really hate starting a series and not finishing it which is how I’ve managed to make it this far but, there’s too much that I absolutely loathe about this series to continue.

1. The never ending love triangle. Good grief. It was old in book 2. Here we are 5 books in and it’s still going. WHY?!? At this point I hate them both and let’s be honest as much a I dislike them Chancery isn’t deserving of either of them or their devotion. Yes, she grew up with Edam but, he never initiated anything with her prior to book 1 and within a week was expressing how in love he was?? Ew. Noah, whom she’s known for a couple weeks is also madly in love with her. So much so that he’d rather watch the world burn than hurt her feelings. Also ew. Idk I guess some people are into that kind of thing but, I cringed with every single interaction between the three of them.

2. Chancery is by far one of the worst mc’s I’ve ever had the displeasure of reading. She is whiny and pretty much useless. There is no character development and I’m so glad she’s not a real person because I want to push her down the stairs. The most unrealistic part of this whole book is that someone as completely useless as her is meant to save the world. The only thing that makes sense is that she constantly questions herself— as she should because she’s an absolute moron.

3. I really hate that everyone is good and just misunderstood and you should look past how awful they are. The author was really like here’s this bad guy but, they’re not really that bad. You should pity them. Over and over again.

4. Have I mentioned how much I hate Chancery??!

5. It was completely unnecessary and very annoying that COVID had to be brought into it. As if we’re not tired of hearing about it.

6. Overall, I feel like these books have gone no where. I will not finish the series to see how it ends but, this is all so unnecessarily long and probably could’ve been wrapped up in three books and been somewhat decent if written by someone else. The idea was there but, the execution was lacking.

I am Chancery and often Disappointed by this world's beings.

Another superb story from Bridget E Baker, the lady with the large family of five gorgeous active children, an ER surgical husband with a broken collarbone and some crazy horses who keep on injuring this wonderful family, well, mainly Mum and Dad-crazy. And she has time to write these superb novels, supernova Bridget.

This Book 5 in the Birthright Series does not lighten up on mystery, drama, untrusting Evian family members and plots that one could bury a small city in, a wonderful continuous story of this Evian race many of whom do not want to consider humans as worthy of breathing the same air as them. However, Chancery, the new young Queen of the world has different ideas and wants to have all with equal rights and shares and be as one. This is only one of the factors causing the dissension within the Evian race along with the desire of certain parties to replace Chancery as leader of the world and have all the power and influence that comes with the position.

Some history is recapped in this book 5 to remind us of the past we have read about and it was a good reminder of some of the previous events. When Queen Enora died few knew that she was with child and therefore, was a surprise to many when they found out. What was not known though-who was the father?? Chancery summoned the family physician, who had held this position for a long time to find out who it was via DNA or what ever method would provide the answer. Chancery accompanied him to the Royal vault where hundreds of past royals and family members who wanted to be buried there were incarcerated in their own separate chamber along with the other royals. What did they find with Enora that was a surprise to all except maybe one being only??

Chancery was continuously being challenged by other family members wanting to be the overall ruler like she seemed destined to be, not entirely by her choice but circumstances many outside her direct control. She did have many inner circle family and friends wanting to be by her side but because of the history and behavior of Evians she found it very difficult to entirely trust anyone with the exception of maybe one, who was this?? Although in the past they had wanted her position even if it meant she had to die.

Along with the ever continuous challenge to Chancery's leadership, the world was thrown into panic because of a pandemic outbreak that threatened to decimate the human life on earth and something that Chancery would not have happen if she had her way. She wants Evians and humans to have similar life chances on earth and has promised to make changes to the old archaic way of thinking about people, with equal status to all. However, there were still Evians who would have nothing to do with her decree and caused as many problems as they could over Chancery's rules and laws she had made on this issue. She was however becoming very revered by humans because she was the first Evian leader who wanted to give humans equal status on earth and this was also becoming an issue with her enemies, they wanted the status quo to remain, humans not worth considering at all on this planet and if many thousands, even hundreds of thousands died, so what??

Other battles and events meant the Alamecha council team were continually planning and acting to keep countries and the people safe from the leaders who would do them harm without any feeling about them at all. It seemed that peace would never rein, however, they physically and visually supported Chancery, Alamecha and the new change in attitude to humans because they believed in their young leader and saw the reaction from the many hundreds of thousands of humans who believed in Chancery too -would she succeed in the end??

Through her inability to trust almost everyone entirely she undertook many dangerous tasks herself keeping her inner council out of some of her plans, although she did have one other member she nearly entirely trusted with her most of the time she went off on the dark side secret missions. One of the main reasons for keeping many issues of danger to herself was she did not want someone else to suffer because of an order and decree she had made and felt responsible for any action contrary to her ruling and so wanted to bear the consequences herself. In the bid for world peace and for her to become overall Queen she needed to have two other large families surrender to the Alamecha family, in other words Chancery. These other families were very opposed to her proposition and issued her a challenge which would have serious affects on other world populations and in particular humans. Chancery being a Queen who wanted to meet her promises to the human world again went off on a dangerous mission to overcome this challenge, however, having analysed the status of the challenge she was not at all confident she would return to home. Being very resourceful and determined she was not going to give up without a battle. The odds were very unfavorable against Chancery, however, her opponents might be about to find out more about this determined young queen.

This is a great continuation of Book 1 in this Birthright series even being book 5, the story line has continued right through the series with the many different characters coming to life at various times and makes for a great read. Bridget B must have one heck of a story mind to keep on with the various plots and personalities especially over this number of novels and the time frame. It is one of my most enjoyable reads especially over this number of books and guess what--there is more to come but we shall just have to be patient to let BB's mind get over Covd 19 and all the events that occurred because of this, many millions of people have had their lives affected by this, however, not that many of us are writing fantastic novels for us non writers to read, so thank you, thank you, thank you from us all.

I have written this review of my own accord without promise or offering from any person or company.

Chancery is one of the most annoying main characters ever written. I was fine with her questioning herself in earlier books, but this was book 5 and she has had 0 character growth. Her power scares her. She can’t decide between the guys. She cries at the drop of a hat. She can’t see the obvious snake in her midst because she can’t see past her own damn nose. She trusts everyone and no one all at once. Truly terribly written. Adding in the COVID plot point was the final straw.

This is the equivalent of the day time emotionally dramatic soap opera that I openly insult as inferior to all who will listen, even as I keep a sly side eye on it so I don't miss a minute of it.

Unbelievable

This is book 5 in the birthright series and I couldn't wait for it to be released. It came out on Friday and I started reading it Saturday and couldn't put it down. I just finished and I am again absolutely impressed by the writing. Bridget Baker has an easy writing style that pulls you in. This is most definitely not a standalone you will need to start with book 1 for it to make sense but you will not regret it. Unlike a lot of other series Bridget has taken an approach were she flip flops the perspective of who tells the story. I find it ingenious because this gives the characters a whole book to have their story told and it gives you an insight into things that might make it otherwise to confusing. Book 5 is again the voice of Chancery and she is not disappointing. The love triangle we have come to know and expect is still a big part of the story and I keep going back and forth am I team Edam or team Noah. They both have great qualities and what is going to happen to our world.
I love how Bridget in these trying times has incorporated a fact that has us all rethinking what we want from ourselves and the world as it is. I am sure this is a huge point of controversies for many but I believe she did a fantastic way of talking about how the world is dealing with thinks and how the Evians are seeing us. It is dystopian so never forget this is a fiction story even if some parts are very real to us right now. But if we think further on what a great way to preserve what is happening right now in the world be incorporated in a novel that our grandchildren can still read and enjoy because a dystopian world will never not be something a good reader can stay away from.
The flow of the plot and the ease of the writing style make this a story that is exactly what you would expect when picking up a book written by Bridget Baker. No matter if she writes her young adult books or her clean romance novels you can never go wrong with a book from Bridget Baker and you will be immediately drawn into the story from page one. You will want to be one of the characters and you will want to fight, cry, love, and cheer with them. I cannot wait for book 6 to come out and see what Inara has to say. Book 7 will be the conclusion of the series which has to be once more from the point of Chancery with a title like Destroyed I can't wait and I hope you are joining me in praying that we don't have to wait so long to find out what is going to happen to Chancery, Noah, Edam, and all the sisters.

Back to Chancery and her internal and external struggles. She wasn’t prepared properly for the role she has taken on, and no one can explain or coach her through this prophecy of which she is supposed to be the heart. Or what all these crazy rings are doing. She is still coping with the loss of her mother and unborn sister. Still trying to unravel the murder mystery as well as the secret paternity. Her sisters’ loyalties have her head spinning, not sure who to trust or even where her siblings all are right now. A lot of sadness with the losses and betrayals. (Talking about me! Why???) She is trying to do her best for as many as she can, including the peon humans not many others seem to care about. Edam and Noah are still both fiercely by her side, trying to protect her from herself as much as all the outside threats. She is pretty stubborn still and just does not learn that she can lean on others sometimes. It’s hard to know who to trust when you have people trying to stab you in the back (or the front), literally. A bit more action in this book. Plus a pandemic and some explanations for human messes that perhaps were caused by the evian overlords none of them even know exist. Lots of puzzle pieces to ponder in this one!

3.5 really. Oh boy, so glad this story is so interesting and different because the Chancy character is driving me crazy. One minute she is strong and brave, and the next minute she is "woe is me", "it's all my fault that so-in-so died", or "I can't believe I just killed them" after bad characters were all about threatening to nuke the world if Chancery didn't agree to their challenge. Please, nobody can be that pitiful like she is at times. Because ending the life of a vicious sadist who controls nuclear bombs would be an easy choice without a lot of crying for most anyone. And the two boyfriends thing? Let's get to the end of that. I am over "I need Edam" and "I am drawn to Noah"...whatever. I get that nobody with her caring nature wants to make the hard choices, but it's war, and it's the life she was born into and basically chose many times since her mother's death. I am ready to get to the end of this series although the world building this author has created is good, the story moves well, and mostly the characters are great. This wishy washy thing that Chancy does constantly is wearing me out though.

If I were in Chancery’s place, I would be so dead. It helps that she’s collecting the rings and is an evian, but if I were her, I’d just make Judica dress up like me again and then I’d go on an eternal vacation to the Bahamas.
Also, wth Edam??? I’ve always been team Noah but that was pretty stupid of Edam to do. How on earth is it helping Chancery by trying to topple power structures while she’s trying to keep the world from a war??? Very dumb indeed. I have way less patience than Chancery and would have sent Edam packing after that. No more “I need to talk to you. Alone. In your room.” Hit the road, buddy.
I was so aggravated because we know Inara is Nereus but Angel got executed instead!! And Inara is free!! And Aline was maybe eaten by a shark!! And Melina is still gone!! I hope Aline isn’t dead.😢
Also, I bet Noah’s “family” that he can’t talk about is the Sons of Gilgamesh. Wouldn’t that be something?
And I think that the false missile scare in Hawaii a couple years ago definitely had something to do with evian goings-on.

This book is definitely faster paced, there is a lot of action. Chancery is definitely in over her head. She has to figure out how to fulfill the prophecy while keeping her kingdom running, solve her mother's murder, and finding her sister Melina. She doesn't know if she can trust herself to make the right decisions. She wants to rule benevolently, like when she decreed equal rights regardless of blood and gender. But she also wants to force the Evian's to provide DNA samples and donate blood to save humans. I hated the choice she made with Angel. And with her emotions about protecting people and doing what's right, I imagine it will haunt her soon.

I liked the subtle unraveling of Noah's history/ family. It was woven seamlessly into the story with details coming out at the right time. You also learn that it's more than honor that is holding him back.

I was disappointed that we didn't check in on Inara and Melina. 😒 Don't leave that hanging!!

The story is building toward a crescendo but I love the way your perception of the characters continued to evolve.

Just like all the others, the book was full of action, violence, and some romance. I like how the author is also trying to put in current events to match up with her story, it’s kind of a cool perspective!

I have to admit though, this freaking love triangle is getting to me. Usually by now there would be one of the guys standing out, which I thought I knew, but then it switched during the book!! I don’t know if it is me, but I’m getting annoyed with the flip flop and just want it to be settled on who and what she wants!

Besides the romance part, I have nothing negative to say! Each book has given me twist after twist, craziness after craziness. It’s a great story and I’m excited to read the next books (even though I have to wait😭).

As always, Ms Baker really knows how to write an amazing, jaw dropping novel. As Chancery's character develops even further in book 5 of this amazing series, we are greeted with not only a tantalizing story with impressive characters, but amazingly planned twists and turns that come out as pleasantly unexpected moments to liven the story even more. It seems that after every chapter, the storyline gets more intense. Noah's character was also amazingly developed and explored here. And bonus points for flawlessly integrating a certain element of current life in the story - makes me wish I was Evian, or that at least Evans could help - hey, a girl can dream, right? I just cannot wait to see how the story will continue!

A spoiler alert. I really wanted to read about what is happening to Melina in this book. No luck. But, but, but, this story is off the charts in weaving the current world situation in with an amazingly creative storyline that Chancery and everyone in her life has to cope with to find her mother's murderer, and that's not 100% for sure done in my humble opinion, prevent two other families of Eve from killing everyone and everything in the world, figure out who Noah is, find out what the Sons of Gilgamesh are planning, search out the Garden of Eden, and I'm probably missing something. Enough said. Chancery has her hands full. I loved every minute of the book, except for the one swear word.

Disavowed, the fifth book in Bridget E. Baker’s The Birthright Series, pulls you back into her Christian fantasy world easily and completely. I hardly put it down! I really enjoyed getting to know Chancery’s character even better and seeing her decisions, relationships, strengths, and abilities changing. Each piece of the puzzle that is this story leaves you wanting more. I really like that the romance is clean and the ending is good, even though it’s not quite the end. I’m excited to read the next books!

Chancery still questions her decisions, but it’s not the extreme highs and lows we have seen in past books, so it is not irritating. I thought we’d find out what happened to Melina, but nope. However, there was a lot of action, and plot development. The indecision Chancery feels between Noah and Edom continues. I have a thought about how it might resolve. But she does flip back and forth between them fairly quickly. I enjoyed the integration of our timeline, with references to Covid. Wonderful narration.

The character development in this book is so beautiful. I love going on this adventure with all of the different characters. There’s so much going on and yet the book is well written that you’re able to remember the different events. In this book is mystery, and Magic and action. I love the realistic aspect of it as well. And if that wasn’t enough she also adds in a dash of romance. Read it I guarantee you you’ll be at the edge of your seat.

This book was so good! I had questions coming out of my ears! Eg. Why is Inara doing this? Who is the baby dad? What’s the connection with the ring and Noah? Who stole the body? If Melinas body isn’t in the hole, where is it? Aline’s not dead, surely? I mean yes they found the hand and jacket but it could all be a plant couldn’t it? She said she was in love once but it ended bad, how? Did he die? Was it the twins’ dad? Cause she’s like what, 140 odd?

I enjoyed this story as an audiobook. It is narrated by Jennifer Jill Araya. This is part of the birthright series and must be read in order. It is a clean romantasy.

Chancery has grown so much as a person and leader. It has been a crazy journey but she truly isn’t the same girl from the first story. This story has been so full of twist and turns and each story builds a new complexity that I wasn’t expecting. Chancery is definitely my favorite pov in the stories.

Can the world get any worse? Or can she save it.

This was something that we all need to think about. Really how can we make our world a better place. This part of the story takes place during covid and is really scary how it works. So just try to make something happen in the life we live. But also see the story too.

Fantasy

Unique and interesting, twists and turns that keep the reader guessing. Lots of romantic angst and wavering between two loves, personally I dislike that but this is a series with a main character who is only seventeen so it's reasonable

Better than the last book

I the characters, the writing is good. There seems to be less recap in this book.

Lazy writers sometimes lift whole paragraphs from what has been in other books in the series.

Even more so than with the last book, I dislike the lense it cast on current events. Combined with the elitist undertones of the evian society, it worsened the bad taste in my mouth from the events that were "eviansplained" in Misunderstood... And yet, I must finish the next book in the series.
