After reading an editorial claiming Dungeons and Dragons drove kids to worship dark forces in the sewers, C.M. Carney's mother immediately bought it for him. He was ten, and it's probably a good thing he was afraid of sewers. Since then he has been obsessed with reading, writing and playing all things fantasy and science fiction.

After spending nearly two decades working as a creative executive for an animation and SFX studio, C.M. decided to pursue his lifelong dream of writing and publishing novels and short stories.

He writes sci-fi, fantasy and LitRPG that run the gamut from epic to humorous. His first novel Barrow King: Book One of The Realms was published in February 2018 and has become a #1 Bestseller in Norse and Viking Myths and Legends and a #1 Bestseller in Role Playing and Fantasy Games.

He loves hearing from fans, like minded thinkers and anyone else who shares his dislike of sewers.

Great read. As the series advances the author continues to grow in his ability to deliver an incredible story. Multiple threads in the overarching story are woven together with increasing skill.

Dreading that only 2 more published books (of anticipated 4 books to finish) the story are left. I’ve already started the series over again with the Barrow King and have enjoyed how Carney alluded to pieces that don’t become clear into later books.

If you haven’t started with The Barrow King I’d suggest going back to the beginning. If you have followed the story this far I hope you are enjoying it as much as I have.

It's a good read.

I guess my only issue is that it's like a pretty blatant ripoff of "The Land" by Aleron Kong. So much of the plot and characters and interaction feels like it was directly pulled from that.
That being said I dont know which series came first, but I am moving on to the next book. So far The Land has been much more entertaining. But again, this is a fun read.

Solid.
Good world building, more information about what happened in an early past, good interaction between the characters.

Cliffhanger at the end, which I hate, but I can understand, as it motivates to pick up the next installment.

Just can’t read these anymore

The series has all of the right pieces but I just can’t seem to get into it. So I’m tapping out.

I have nothing bad to say. The books are just not compelling enough for me to continue reading.

Another Great Reaf

Wow! This was an intensely good book. From the beginning it is action and adventure to the very end. The ending was just so good. Its not really an ending just a prelude to the next book. Which I am whole heartedly looking forward to!

Amazing addition to the series

The twist and turns in this book were amazing. The book kept me engaged the entire time. The characters development was fairly straightforward but I am looking forward to Lex and Gryphs new connection to come into play. Great book!

Getting better with each outing. I probably didn't need as many pages on Raathiel's skills as I got (I'm not going to remember 20 something skills later). But definitely better. Can't wait to start the next book.

Lots of Lore advancement. Successes, mistakes, the rage of gods, and lore about the godheads.

Also some great references and reveals.

What an ending though, that at least answers my questions from book 1

Very Enjoyable Read

Again, how deep these books dive amazes me. Great continuation from the previous books. It sets things up nicely for the following books. I can’t wait to start the next one.

Some of the best

This book contains some of the best cliffhangers and conflicts in the litrpg fantasy genre. All the obstacles Carney writes in for our heroes leave me on the edge of my seat waiting to see if they make it. Can't wait to read the next one

The Forsaken God left me scratching my head by the end. I was confused because it was enjoyable, yet I found myself frequently exiting the book to do other things. My theory: the tone of this novel is extremely tense, especially towards the end. So tense, in fact, that it actually detracted from the journey. It was an earned tension, but it kept me from holding focus.

Spoilers ahead. Beware!

The series sets Gryph against Aluran, the most powerful entity throughout numerous universes. He is a monster, a tyrant, and plain vile. In this entry, Gryph and his group finally go head to head with Aluran, and... they do not fare well. For chapter upon chapter they get hammered. It's brutal and, at least for me, difficult to read. There is no victory, and it left me feeling a bit hollow by the end.

However.

I know this entry is building towards the actual ultimate confrontation. I am certain it will be satisfying and exciting. There will eventually be victory, but not in The Forsaken God. For that reason, I understand the tension and the failure. And I can't really fault this book for building up to the big finish.

Alert

I hate trying to write reviews because there are really only pass/fail results for me. Did I make it all the way through? Yes? 5 stars. No? There would be nothing here to read. In all fairness, if an author holds my attention from page one to the end, they’ve done their job. Anything less than 5 stars is petty criticism from someone incapable of even doing the job let alone doing a better one.

So in respect for the author and their work, I am going to start pasting this along with a generic review I found somewhere. “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”

Cheers

Really building things up.

Felt like the story advanced a good amount in this one. We got a lot more glimpses of the world and the history. I'd did almost feel like two separate stories though, I feel like the first half was a setup for the next book, then we detoured back to the main story arc and I almost thought for a bit it would wrap up. I'm very perplexed on where the next book will go with all that happened at the end of this one!

A fun read

Always an interesting world its amazing how it not quite sure what to say but that ending was a trip. And since the realms are more a parallel universe than a game does that mean aluran was a god in our world?

Plot armor

The entire book feels like the protagonist and antagonist are two kids in those giant inflatable bubbles impotently bumping into each other through their several mile thick plot armor.
