When the unimaginable happens and Jordan loses her best friend on the night she had planned to tell him her feelings, it leaves her to wonder if she’s the guilty party, but her memories of that night are fuzzy. In an attempt to leave her past and the hateful stares of her peers behind, she moves across the country to live with her mother in Esterwilde, Pennsylvania. It’s a small close-knit town, but there no one should know about her past, or so she thought.
When Zyler runs into the new girl in town he can’t help but feel a connection, but he also knows her past harbors a horrible secret. He’s heard the rumors, but doesn’t believe them. Seeing Jordan in pain kills him and all he wants to do is take it away.
Jordan soon realizes that no matter what she does she’s not going to be able to outrun her past. Can Zyler show her that despite the hate and ignorance in the world that life is still worth living? Will she ever figure out the truth about the night that took away her best friend?

VERY RARELY, do I rate a book one star. I really hate to say this but this book was just way too rushed and unorganized for me. It lacked detail in so many aspects, from characters to backgrounds to the plot. The ending was waaaaay too abrupt and makes me so ticked that I don't want to know what happens next. Cliffhangers are great to use sometimes, but not in the way the author left it off. The synopsis and cover looked so promising and I'm just so bummed that it didn't pan out like I was hoping. =/
**Spoilers are coming, fair warning***
I felt like the main character Jordan's ex-boyfriend Harvey had absolutely no relevance to the book and I'm very confused as to why he was brought in at the end. If the author was going to include him into the book, she should have included him stalking her throughout the book in one mysterious way or another. Jordan's parents were no-shows through most of the book and at the end she's suppose to up and care that her mom has a boyfriend when her mom's neglected her through the entire book. Jordan slitting her wrists because she got bullied so bad was kinda annoying. If she's taking happy pills, then why is she depressed? Why didn't she go to her mom? I absolutely hated the way her mom treated her when she slit her wrists. It was just kinda like, "Oh hey sweetie, I have a boyfriend and you have to be okay with it". I mean, Jordan was the one depressed through most of the book and it's like her parents turned a total cold cheek to her. Also, girls Jacklyn that are mean and bully someone don't just come to school the next day and act all nice. I'm also irked that Jordan was just okay with getting a higher dosage of happy pills and all of a sudden was this self-accepting person overnight. Zyler (her love interest) who she pushed away through most of the book is now all of a sudden her boyfriend and intimate love interest if you get what I mean. One last thing that bothered me was that Marissa (Jordan's supposed friend) was hardly in the book. I felt like it would have been really nice to see more of her and have her and Jordan connect on a real friend level.
I can honestly say that this is the second book I've ever read where I just clearly didn't click with the novel. I feel bad for giving one star, but this is an honest review. This book just didn't make any sense to me. It was rushed and just really needed some more planning and attention on the author's part.
Wow, what an amazing read. It really pulled at my heart and made me feel so much for Jordan. Make sure that you have some tissue by you. You will need it! I am very impressed with J. Laslie and this book. She writes so that you can connect with the characters.
Jordan is your normal teenage girl, until tragedy strikes and her best friend, Micah, dies. She has guilt, depression, and foggy memories of that fateful night. She doesn't know how the fire started. People think that she did it though. So they also think that she killed Micah. She can't take the bulying anymore. She packs up and moves in with her mom across the country.
At the new school, in the new small town, the bullying starts to happen again. She can't deal or handle it. She has Zyler, but she won't open up to him and let him in. She feels like she doesn't deserve to be happy. Her meds make her numb and just a shell of herself. She makes a drastic decision. Thank God for Zyler.
Zyler is an amazing young man. He really likes/loves Jordan. He really wants to help her. He is very patient with her. If I was 15 years younger, Zyler would definitely be a book boyfriend.
There are a few surprising twists in this book and it does end in a cliff hanger. I will try to be patient while waiting for the next book.
What a great book about rising above and learning to live.
In Persuading Tomorrow we meet Jordan, a high school girl who wants to finally let her best friend Micha know how she feels about him.
One night of partying everything will change for Jordan. Her life will be crushed and one night she'll never get back.
Will moving away from her hometown help her move on? You can always leave, but the past has a way to always resurface.
Persuading Tomorrow has bullying and so much more, but at the end of the day it's about finding someone who you can trust and believe in.
Im needing that next book, like now! It ends on a cliffy. In this read we get 4 differnt POVs and you'll be shocked to read one of those. I didn't see that coming at all.
This is a very entertaining debut story and I couldn't put it down. Jordan has had tragedy in her life and she has to learn how to deal with her past. She doesn't have parents who really pay attention to her and her depression. When she moves across the country to live with her mother, her past follows her. She meets a guy and they connect quickly. Several mysterious things happens to her and in the end the book leaves us with a cliffhanger. I will definitely get the next book as soon as it is out.
This book is absolutely amazing. The story of lessons learned follows Jordan throughout the book as she attempts to seclude herself into her own world. Trying to avoid Zyler as he does everything he can to get her to open up and enjoy life, she eventually learns to let go of the past and live life, but not before some very difficult situations arise.
Be ready for a ride that will have you reaching for tissues, savoring the chemistry between characters and leave you begging for more.
This was a fantastic first book. Lots of twists and turns and leaves you with a cliffhanger ! can't wait to read the next one. The characters are very heartwarming and endearing. Bullying happens too often and this is how Jordan has dealt with it and a night she doesn't remember. Even moving across country doesn't solve the problem, but Zyler's love helps her through the struggles and gives her the strength to learn valuable life lessons.
This is a wonderful book to be the authors first she did a great job with drawing me into this story. I wasn't expecting a lot of the turns in it. Now my only question is where is book 2
I usually won't read anything other than disaster type books but i'm glad I made an exception for this one because I loved it and I will be waiting on the next one.
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
This book is about the pain that Jordan is dealing with after the death of her best friend. She feels the guilt and loss of him plus blames herself for his death after a night of partying. She can’t take it and so she moves across country to stay with her mom. Between the guilt, depression and whispers from the kids at her school she needed a fresh start.
Poor Jordan can’t catch a break because once she shows up at her new school it seems they too know her secrets. However, one boy, Zyler, doesn’t care and wants to get to know the new girl no matter what.
I think the book does a good job with the emotions Jordan is dealing with and in scene really delves into why teens would think death is easier than life. I loved Zyler and his positive force in Jordan’s life. I also loved that even though he has major troubles he is willing to always remain optimistic in life. He is kinda the ying to her yang.
The books has a villain we totally hate but it also shows the “other side” of the bully. The girl’s why’s for her horrible treatment of Jordan. We can see how teenagers are so focused on themselves to see what other people maybe dealing with.
I liked the little mystery thrown into the book and there is a cliffy at the end but I am a fan of cliffys so it doesn’t make me mad. It makes me wanna know what happens to the Jordan and Zyler.
Decent book, ends way too soon. The beginning shows promise, introduces folks, places you in the locations, and the stage is set. Predictable encounters happen for High School students. My biggest takeaway from this story is the POV shifts by chapter. We get into each of their heads. Still feels like an Afterschool Special or a John Hughes film. Edited well, formatted wonderfully for digital versions. The end. OMG.. I finished the book and immediately ran to Amazon to get Book 2... WHAT ?? WHERE?? Are you kidding me ??? I have to wait?? Yeah, that's why you got 4 stars on top of the other hold backs. Mind you, it does try to teach you to think of others should you be considering suicide.
I liked this book, even though it had teenage sex scene in it,yes, they were 18,barely,but teenagers all the same.Anyways,I did like the mystery and story lines, but was totally bummed that I stayed up late to see what happens only to find out you have to read the next book to find out. Overall, good book and good plot and good writing.
Loved this book. So many real life issues touched on in this story. How one drunken night can affect your life, how bullying affects others and is so wrong, and how you never know what someone is really going though. Also one kind person can make a difference. I couldn't but this book down! Great story
