The Room Next Door

Rate this book
Written between 2006 and 2018, this collection features short stories (and other weird writing) that find the strange in the mundane, or make the normal seem peculiar.

A dusty night across a sleeping city. A hole in a wall. Rooms next door and days at the office gone long.

Encounter artificial intelligences on the run and cold zombie landscapes.

Meet strangers that look somehow familiar, or people you knew but long ago lost.

See small acts of defiance.

Feel existential terror.

And look deep into the magic eight-ball of your soul.

About the author

Nicolas Papaconstantinou

1 book8 followers
Nicolas Papaconstantinou is a podcaster and author. He is co-creator of the podcasts We Have Issues and 2 Grown Men, and the creator and curator (and a contributing author) to the writing website Elephant Words, which from 2007 to 2016 was a home for daily prose by around fifty writers (but only six at a time).

He usually writes odd short things. They are often funny when he's trying to scare you, and unsettling when he wants you to laugh, and some of them are excellent.

(He is also a father, husband and dog owner, which makes him the fifth most exceptional person in a house of five. But none of them wrote anything, so they don't get an Author Profile.)

This is a very compelling mix of short stories.
They are extremely varied subjects and characters, spanning a range of genres.
The writing is thought-provoking, witty and intelligent.
