Earth belongs to mankind once again. But not everyone has the same vision for the planet.
Dean visits Earth, touring the colonies, and quickly learns that not all remaining humans are pleased with the new changes to their planet.
The Restorers are determined to build a pre-industrial revolution state, claiming technology will only destroy them again. Dean must infiltrate the group and learn their master plan before they go too far.
Meanwhile, Jules and Slate are helping relocate a race from a distant world when their ship is destroyed by an unknown enemy. They must navigate the strange planet in order to escape. Jules senses a dormant portal, but her abilities continue to remain unstable, forcing her to rely on her Academy training to survive.
All paths will coalesce in an epic conclusion you won’t want to miss.
This was another excellent chapter in Nathan's Survivors series.
We are reunited with the old gang as they seek to give aid to an alien race before their planet dies. The fledgling Gatekeepers get to experience real work as a Gatekeeper, but for them all it is not the peaceful school outing they thought it would be. Jules shows her family genetics in leadership and decision skills as the young students are faced with more than was expected. Meanwhile on Earth, where Dean goes trouble generally rears its head and he finds himself in more than one life threatening situation, requiring all his skill and nerve that he has shown throughout the series. The characters continue to develop and move on where the story requires keeping the interest in them. As for the storyline, this series could go on forever, there's so much story to tell! Don't stop telling this story Mr Hystad!!
Sifi with heart! So glad to see more of The Survivors series to come out next year. It has been an interesting and exciting read from the first book. I highly recommend the whole series.
The cast of characters and their place in the galaxy has grown immensely
So much is happening and so many friends are involved now, it's hard to keep track of them all. All our friends are still in play, but scattered across the galaxy on missions. The Gatekeeper Academy is close to graduating its first class. Included in the graduating class are Jules and Dean, Magnum and Nat's son. Jules is having trouble controlling her Iskos abilities, with them failing at odd times and just not being there when she needed them. A group called the Restorers has grown on Earth. Their main desire being to avoid new and improved life, preferring to revert to older, simpler lifestyles without the use of technology. Magnus and Dean Parker are infiltrating the group to see what their deal is, how to stop their attacks. Slate is leading the Academy now and is taking his graduating class on a final trip to help the population of a dying world resettle to a safe planet whose sun is not going to destroy them. Not all wish to be "saved" and the students job will be to make sure everyone on the planet is evacuated safely. Of course something is going to go wrong! Jules finds a huge crystal that contains the god the people pray to. Of course, Jules finds that it is a teleporter crystal and that she can use it! It's awesome seeing all our friends back in action. The kids are grown and becoming such a huge part of the storyline, become main characters with their own adventures and problems. The characters have become part of the family now and it's wonderful seeing them in action. Naturally, there are bad guys everywhere and they have to add their plots and machinations into the mix as well. We get to see the Collectors, PlevCorp, and the Restorers with their parts to play. Intrigue and malfeasance are the words of the day. This is another outstanding read in this amazing series!
I'm not going to review each and every of the 18, so far, books in this series because it would be exhausting. Suffice it to say, as I just this morning told my son, to have the talent to write a series of 18 books (so far) and each and every book be as engaging, thrilling and be able to pull a reader right into the story instead of being a spectator to it is so rare and his books do that. From book 1 to the current book 18. Also, these are not novellas or short stories. Each in this series is a full on NOVEL. I've been opened to genres I never thought I'd be interested in before and it's writers like Nathan Hystad that make that possible .... that make reading ..... an important part of my life.
What can I say about this book that hasn't already been said? There are just so many superlatives that can be used. Dean is still in limbo about what he wants to do with is life, but Mary is doing great in her position. Hugo is growing up and is rather flighty, like Patty was when she was younger. But Jules is another matter. She has her powers to save her group from some huge eel-like creatures, but that drains her powers for an unknown period of time. She can't control them when she does have them. And when she touches the god of the Nirzu then watch what happens. Nathan Hystad has hit it out of the park with this continuation of the Survivors series and I am really looking forward to the next book.
It's hard to believe we're on the eleventh book in this fantastic series. It feels as fresh as the first book with the benefit of having become familiar with a growing number of characters. Nathan Hystad has done a masterful job of introducing these characters at a pace that has never felt overwhelming to me. I must emphasize that these include many different alien species with greatly enhanced technologies. In fact, a fundamental element of this series is the establishment of an Alliance of a vast number of species & worlds that become trading partners and share technologies. Don't get the impression that all is well and everyone gets along. We've learned that what we may have considered being Human Attributes, Good, Evil, Greed, Jealousy, etc are shared by most species. It's the resolution of these conflicts that keeps this story alive and fresh.
Each book in the series is an enjoyable read that you can't put down. Old World does not disappoint. Old and new advisories threaten worlds near and far. Providing new challenges to overcome and new revelations that change everything. Nathan is able to mix drama, action, and comic relief to tell a story that leaves you on the edge of your seat throughout the book. Masterful as always Nathan doesn't disappoint. He is one of the few authors that causes me stop any book I'm reading, to grab his latest release and read it cover to cover. Keep you the great work.
This is part of a box set and I thoroughly enjoyed this instalment mainly because the story switches between Dean and his daughter, Jules. I especially like how Jules is developing which is crucial to the plot.
There are plenty of adventures and actions, dilemmas and choices. It's well-written (apart from a few niggles of grammar now and again). It flows nicely and is detailed where it should and I also like how it switches between first- and third-person.
Further adventures await and I'm looking forward to them.
As the story goes, it's pretty exciting. Jules and her dad are on two different missions and my favorite part of this book is that the author kept going back and forth between each mission that was happening at the same time. Of course, you are left hanging when the text switches to the other mission, but that makes it exciting and I couldn't put the book down.
What an exciting adventure for this group that is as close as family. Finally getting answers about Jules powers and finding out where she fits in as she heads into her teenage years with raging hormonal that impact her special powers. Great to see Magnus and Dean on a special mission together
Another solid instalment, as the lens and scope return to two ‘low tech’ storylines that have a pleasing focus on our main characters. That said, it does drag at parts and has the usual failings of unrealistic scaling. Hystad seems to struggle with the reality of planet sized objects never mind solar scale or galactic scale, and invariably diminishes them to the detriment of his narratives.
This is a great fantasy sci-fi series with interesting characters and consistent personalities that hold your attention. I missed some of the books but picked up on the storyline easily. Plans to read the missed books.
This series is so good. After each book I just can't wait for the next. This author has and amazing way of writing and to keep my attention. This series is a must read.
This entire series has been amazing! Wonderful characters, amazing adventures and unpredictable outcomes. I highly recommend reading such a wonderful book!
This series pulls you in and keeps you wanting to know more. I am really enjoying Dean Parker’s family and friends. I’m ready for the next book to see what happens next. You won’t be disappointed.
I really enjoy this series, can't wait for the next book, I'm intrigued about Jules situation, hopefully everything will evolve positively for her and her family.
I am thoroughly enjoying this series! It's a hold on to your hat, breathtaking adventure that I find hard to put down. I can't wait to start the next book!
The story of the survivors go's from strength to strength, excellent story and character building, thease books deserve to made into a film or a series. Are you listening AMAZON
To me, this book was cut into 2 parts, Jules's adventure, which i really enjoyed, and the section of the Restorers (with Dean and Magnus) which, for me, was both as uninteresting as it was unnecessary. It bored me to no end and i ultimately began to skip past those chapters to save my interest. To me, it seemed more like filler content to add to page count. It ruined the overall story and integrity of the book, for me. It was hard to connect fully with this one.
I enjoyed the relationships between Jules and her family particularly with her papa.such a cute name for her father. am always excited for the next book in this series. Keep the good stories coming Nathan. Thank you..
I will be the first to admit that the Survivors Books have captured my imagination from the very first book. I have never been disappointed with the entertainment Nathan’s writing has given with this series of books.
