The Moment: A Little Bit Cupid
When Jason takes the chance on a blind date, it’s then that his eyes are finally opened.
Wealthy winery owner Jason is happy to claim that he’s too busy to have a love life or a romance. He has all he needs with his personal secretary taking care of his business life and an old friend looking after the yacht where they live.

This was a fun fantasy-level Valentine story. I don’t mean fantasy in that there were fae, dragons and trolls. No, this was a fantasy because Jason is a ridiculously rich winery owner who lives on a yacht and is one of the most personable and generous person you will ever meet, so basically, a myth. I jest. Kind of.
Forget your 9-5 nonsense and frolic with the rich and beautiful in The Moment. The fact that the characters are likable and accessible keeps this story relatable even though I couldn’t really relate to any of it. I did kind of feel like I was on this fantasy vacation while reading it though and that alone is worth the time it takes to read this short story and meet these beautiful people.
Jason is invited to a masked ball at Valentine’s and tasks his amazing assistant Kris with finding him the perfect costume and a date. Well, it’s obvious the two are attracted to one another, but even Jason knows it’s not wise to fish off the company pier.
Kris finds Jason the perfect costume and the perfect blind date. Now the perfect date is dressed as a woman, I mean, there’s no question that this is a man, but Jason is intrigued with his lovely and mysterious masked blind date.
It’s obvious to everyone on the planet except for Jason who his mystery date is, but it’s way more fun to play along and read along as the two flirt and mingle their way through the masked ball. There were some unnecessary (in my opinion) abusive shenanigans directed at Jason’s date and while I didn’t like it, it was a vehicle for Jason to be a hero and he came through big time.
After the big reveal and Jason and Kris were able to get real, they got really real in the privacy of Jason’s yacht. It was really very sweet and it was obvious these two were very much in love. They’d worked together for years, knew each other well and Jason was friends with all of his employees, Kris especially.
This story may have been too much if the author hadn’t made the characters so likable. It made it easy to believe that there was an HEA down the road for Kris and Jason. Normally that wouldn’t be realistic with the boss/employee dynamic, but these are perfectly perfect people, so it will work, of that I have no doubt.
Now, I don’t normally dig on perfectly perfect people, but the author made me care about and like these guys quite a bit and this was a great Valentine dream to read.

I’ve got admit that when I initially read the blurb to this novella I wasn’t keen on reading it but for some reason, I decided to give it a shot. I am really glad that I did.
I can’t remember off the top what initially made me not want to read the story but that’s not important. What is important is the story that was told. It was damn good.
Although this storyline has been done before, the author did an amazing job telling this story. Jason’s character fascinated me. Here is a man who seems to have it all; he’s successful and has all the trappings of wealth that he could ever want. But he’s convinced himself that he’s too busy with his work and his assistant and friend are all he needs in life. It doesn’t take long to realize that even though he has all of this success and wealth, it’s not enough. You can tell that he’s reluctant to acknowledge that he’s really lonely.
I like how the author was able to tell such a really good story in a novella. Usually in novella something is lacking, whether it be character development or the pace is really fast but there was none of that in this story. There was a really good story told in the characters were very well developed.
I liked the idea of a secret admirer/masked love interest. It kept it spicy and mysterious. The story contained a hint of stalking and inappropriate touching, it wasn’t such that it took away from the enjoyment of the story.
All in all, I think that this turned out rather nicely and I’m really glad that I decided to read this story.

Quite the cute book.
It’s a little too cutesy for my preferences, but it’s still a good read.
I like that Jason knows Buttercup is for him, as soon as he sees her. I liked that Jason *KNOWS* Buttercup, but it takes him a little time to put the clues together. I liked that the whole book takes place over, maybe, a week, and the party and its aftermath is the majority of the book. That said, this story was told only from Jason’s point of view. I really REALLY wanted to hear from Kris! How he felt about Jason before the party, how he pulled it all off, and how he felt now he had his man. For me, it would’ve helped, but it might not bother other readers.
So, a cute, short read. 3 good solid stars.
