It was a great way to show how all humans stand beside each other when they're against an enemy of nature. How people sacrifice all they have ( not just their life) for ones they love and care.

I stopped reading for like an hour or two when Tsukasa ceased fire to find and depetrify his little sister. I'm thanking myself for doing that, saving me some time before I get hit by the final blow. But the tears just won't stop!! So, that's the final battle, huh? Final for Tsukasa, at least... I felt so sad. I was anxious since this early in the morning staring at the table of contents. I was like, okay, the chapter titles sound painful but I guess I gotta read this. And this was the so-called final battle. I just— I guess I just always has hope for Tsukasa, I never hated the guy but yes he did things... but just like what he always says, pay respect to the circle of life. He revived his sister, he gotta pay the price. Now, that's awful to hear. I guess I don't want to witness any deaths today. Man, that is just painful.

Nah. Who am I kidding? He can't be dead. But I enjoyed Chrome's prison break so much! I freaked out when he suddenly said pneumonia. I was stunned for at least 20 seconds and then screaming “No, no.” with tears streaming down my cheeks. And then I laughed, nah, just who am I kidding? He can't be dead too. I have faith in these strong-willed characters. You better hang in there with me until the end, because we're only getting started!

5/5 Stars (%90/100)

The heated battle between the two factions continues and many people from Tsukasa's army change sides. There are certainly interesting characters among them like Nikki and Ukyo. Meanwhile, Senku creates new scientific tools and weapons like it's nothing since he has most of the basic materials. Eventually, the battle ends, and the factions decide to merge. The ending was great so I don't want to spoil it. It was a great volume in general.

That's one amazing cliffhanger!
I wish we had seen and known a bit more about Tsukasa's camp before everyone went there. I would just really love more background, more character driven narrative rather than story driven.

I really like this volume! The Chrome shenanigans at the beginning were really fun and how he got Yo to believe he had pneumonia was really clever and that sequence was all around good. I like Ukyo so far, design’s kind of boring, but he’s just a good guy. Also Yo is a fun lunatic. Speaking of there’s some really good lunatic Senku moments like when he makes nitro-glycerin, he’s just a wacky fella. Anyways Hyoga can go fuck himself how dare he stab Tsukasa, I don’t care about how cool he looks (but he does look sick ngl). And even though we didn’t see much of it Tsukasa’s relationship with his sister is really sweet just him becoming that strong to fund her survival like damn that got to me a bit.

This is a review of the series up to the ending of the second big arc; it ends in chapter 82, which technically belongs near the beginning of the tenth volume.

Inagaki reinvented the shonen genre to a certain degree. Shonen mangas, aimed towards males, tend to be characterized by more or less abstract competitions that usually involve fighting, while gaining friends and enemies along the way. In most other series of this broadly defined genre, one grows towards solving the big issue, which usually is another powerful group with a conflicting goal, by improving his fighting skills. Many people tend to die, although in many series death is not entirely permanent. "Dr. Stone" has changed the game significantly: yes, it is a competition between two groups (at least up to the ending of the second big arc), and yes, the other group intends to impose itself through deadly strength and fighting skills. However, this time the protagonists move forward not through developing their fighting skills, although they do have to improve them to a certain degree, but through rediscovering and implementing new scientific advances. Additionally, they intend to win without . Nearing the climax of this second big arc, the protagonist, ultra brilliant Senku, and his friends have built a , and along the way they had to reinvent the . However, as part of the alternative that this series offers, their . By the end of this arc, the main nemesis, . I wish the link between Tsukasa and his hatred of the modern scientific civilization had been stronger in the manga itself; obviously for me, that Senku worships science and human ingenuity as a sort of miracle-maker felt like a slap in the face for Tsukasa, who had spent years by . However, Senku uses the . I commend the author's ability to invent unexpected, and often very original solutions for common problems in stories of two groups forced to clash against each other.

As a result of this arc, the Kingdom of Science that Senku founded .

One of the more or less explicit lessons of this series is that the only thing that will save human beings from the problems nature presents us with, or that we create by ourselves, is our ingenuity, our ability to find out the rules of the universe and to build machines that take advantage of them. Otherwise we are alone against overwhelming forces. So far, watching these sympathetic characters inventing and building their way out of their problems has been, indeed, exhilarating.

Alright, before I do a short, proper review, I have to get something out of the way.

*deep inhale*

FUCK YOU, HYOGA! FUCK YOU SO FUCKING MUCH, I FUCKING HATE YOUR FUCKING GUTS, FUUUUUCK YOOOOOOOOOOOU! and fuck you, Homura and Yo.

*inhale, exhale*

Okay, a few thoughts. I liked the climactic battle between Tsukasa's army and Senku's it was just as epic as I imagined it would be. Chrome, once again, was a total boss, escaping from prison AND coming in clutch towards the end. I never thought I'd say this, but Taiju and Yuzuriha are actual good characters now that have a solid purpose and contributed to the story. I'm still a little leery about Tsuaka's goal in relation to his sister, but seeing Senku reach for him at the end was awesome and I loved it.

That's about it. The suspense is killing me, I gotta read volume 10 now!

The Battle is Over, but a New One Begins

The first story arc concludes in this volume.

There are some inconsistencies or implausabilities in this series, like how Tsukasa revived people based on their physical appearances or on skills they possessed.

Tsukasa was a high school student and a fighter, so he couldn't possibly know who a good listener would be or who a good gymnast was based on physical appearance.

It's also unrealistic how most of Tsukasa's goons are big muscly brutes who are very dumb, because not everyone who works out a lot in real life is dumb.

But the story progressed and I had to overlook these so I could focus on the story.

As I found out more about Tsukasa and his motivations, and all of a sudden I knew why he did what he did. I can't wait to read the next volume!

It starts off with an escape by Chrome using the power of science and its phenomenal the way he does it. He arrives to the village and its Kingdom of Science's attempt to build a tank and take back the Cave of Miracles but they are confronted by Tsukasa and Hyouga and they will be tough to battle against until Senku finds a solution in dynamites. Its an amazing read and has worrisome moments and you wonder whether they will win or not. But the way they defeat Tsukasa and the ultimate betrayal by Hyuoga is epic and the destruction of the cave. The mangaka steps this story up in this volume.

This is one of those volume that the five-star rating does not fully do justice to. Hyoga's face and real motives are revealed finally. I have no words for the turn of events at the end, it was nothing short of a masterpiece. This series is consistent, hilarious and unputdownable.

P.S. The artwork of Senku in Black Bull's robe holding Asta's Demon-Dweller Sword on Page 90 is too damn good!

Chrome is being held captive and struggles to escape from some primitive morons. Chrome breaks out the jail, but Yo is in hot pursuit of him. Yo gets tricked into thinking that Chrome had pneumonia and that he was vomiting/spewing blood thanks to some local plants. Tsukasa's little sister Mirai is revived and no longer stone. Hyoga attacks Tsukasa right after being reunited with Mirai.

4/5 The battle against the Tsukasa army come to a head. A lot of action in this one as the team tries to rescue Chrome and take down the entire enemy army in a blitzkrieg assault. We get more information on Tsukasa’s motivations as well and learn about his sister Mirai. A lot of fun and excitement in here and a wicked cliffhanger.

Senku and Tsukasa on the cover over volume 9.
