Kay Correll is a USA Today bestselling author of sweet, heartwarming stories that are a cross between women’s fiction and contemporary romance. She is known for her charming small towns, quirky townsfolk, and the enduring strong friendships between the women in her books.

Kay splits her time between the Southwest coast of Florida and the Midwest of the U.S. and can often be found out and about with her camera, taking a myriad of photographs, often incorporating them into her book covers. When not lost in her writing or photography, she can be found spending time with her ever-supportive husband, knitting, or playing with her puppies - a cavalier who is too cute for his own good and a naughty but adorable Australian shepherd. Their five boys are all grown now and while she misses the rowdy boy-noise chaos, she is thoroughly enjoying her empty nest years.

I grabbed One Simple Wish: Return to Lighthouse Point when I noticed it for free on vendor sites. It sounded like the type of read that fit my current mood with the main character returning to her hometown years later. I picked it up and on a whim I started it shortly after it. One Simple Wish is a light and fun romantic read with a bit of a finding yourself plot line added it. I read through this quickly, but the romance didn't quite work for me and I would've liked a bit more depth which turned this into a 3 star read for me.

I've been enjoying books lately with plot lines like this where the main character returns home and/ or has to figure out what they want in life. Sara has worked long and hard at her current job in the hopes of getting promoted to partner at the firm. She is clearly a workaholic at the start and has no life/ work balance to speak off. She even works during most weekends. Then her aunt takes a nasty fall and needs her help. Sara immediately drops everything to be there for her aunt and while she's visiting her hometown at belle Island she's reminded of how much the loves this place. Add in her two best friends Charlotte and Robin who are back on the island too. And then she runs into her past lover Noah as well.

The theme and vibe of this book was exactly what I was in the mood for. This was an easy and quick read and I read through it smoothly. Which was great, but at the same time I missed a bit of depth. I wanted to see more of Sara's struggle between the life she build these past 20 years and the life she could have at Bella Island. In fact if not for a comment from one of the side characters she might've just gone back to her current job and left the island. It just kinda felt like she didn't really think about things at all.

My main issue with this book is the romance. It's a second chance romance and when I found out the reason why they separated the first time and the way they handled that conversation I was tempted to DNF it on the spot. It was just such a stupid way things ended between them, add in a lot of pride, some weird decisions and coincidences and I just couldn't believe that was what got them separated and if that broke them up I had no hoped for a future for them. Luckily they do end up learning from that lesson, I was especially impressed with the way Noah handled things all the way toward the end. Although I am sad that Sara was totally committed to making a big mistake and would have made it if not for Noah.

With the set up I had a hard time really feeling their romance, although once they got over their initial shock there were some nice scenes between them. I just didn't really feel their connection and understood why they fell for the other. It also seemed like Noah had developed a changed a lot in their years apart and found himself, while Sara hadn't.

There is a nice group of side characters surrounding Sara with hints of possible romances for future books. We even get a few chapters form the points of view of Sara's friend and even her aunt Lil, which was a nice touch.

To summarize: This was a lighthearted and quick read set at a beach inn on an island. I liked the theme of workaholic Sara returning to her home town on the island and finding herself surrounded by things she missed. I would've liked a bit depth and insight into Sara's though processes and what being back here did to her as now her decisions at the end seemed quite sudden and more spurred on by a side charter's remarks to think about what she wanted. There is a nice group of side characters and I liked seeing them all help each other. There are hints of future romances as well and we even get a few short chapters from the side characters. Unfortunately I really struggled with the romance in this book. I couldn't get over the ridiculous turn of events that caused them to separate the first time. I didn't really feel their romance or why they fell for the other again. Then there is the whole lack of communication and almost making stupid mistakes at the end that had me rolling my eyes. Luckily it got resolved quickly with minimal drama, although I was a bit disappointed that it was only Noah who realized he had made a mistake. All in all it was a nice read with a theme that fit my reading mood, but it failed to fully engage me.

I enjoyed this book. It was a gentle interlude between more intense books. I did think that the ending was rather abrupt. Characters were likeable as were the Inn and the town. Nice book.

It was OK

This was a perfectly...nice book but it had no pizzazz, no spark. I won't be reading any more books in this series.

Second Chances

A cute, fun story, but with a predictable plot. Loved the main characters. Good intro for other books in the series.

One Simple Wish: Return to Lighthouse Point: Charming Inn Book 1 is by Kay Correll. This is a cute romance set on Belle Island at Charming Inn. The description is of a peaceful, lovely little town right on the white sand beach. OK, she didn’t mention white sand; but Florida does have some of the prettiest white sandy beaches on the Gulf Coast. This quaint little town was where Sara, Robin, and Charlotte grew up. Then two of them left the island, Sara went to Boston where she worked in advertisement and Charlotte went to California to paint.
Sara was in line for a big promotion when she got the news that her Aunt Lil had fallen and broke her hip. Sara immediately put everything on hold, told her boss she was going to Belle Island to be with her aunt. Aunt Lil was out of surgery and when her pain lifted, Sara told her she was going to take care of the inn while Aunt Lil got better. Robin was already at the island and Charlotte was on her way. Things were under control when Sara caught a glimpse of someone she would her not see- Noah McNeil! He had left her twenty years ago with no explanation or excuse. Can she avoid him?

One Simple Wish is a spin-off of the Lighthouse Point series. If you have read those books you'll see some familiar characters in this one. The reader will also make some new friends: such as Sarah, Charlotte and Robin.

This is a great quick read from start to finish in 4 hours total. The reader is introduced to Sarah Wren at the beginning of the book She is a hard-working ad agency woman with her mind set on getting a promotion to partner. She is working to accomplish this by putting everything in her life on the back burner. Now life as Sarah knows will change with one simple phone call. The call is about her Aunt, saying that she has fallen and needs Sara to come back home. Now with Sara's friends she's going to run the Charming Inn while her aunt is recovering. Along with continuing to work her Boston job remotely. Sarah runs into Noah McNeil and old flame from 20 years ago. Sarah can't seem to keep him off her mind.

Readers will love One Simple Wish, if they believe in second chances and great friends helping each other. Most of all, we are always working to figure out what we want and need in life.

‘One Simple Wish’ was such a sweet tale. Its touching plot was filled with adversity, dropping out of working at an ad agency to care for an ailing aunt, not so thrilled to see a blast from the past, being back with the girls, taking care of the inn, a big misunderstanding, going back and forth to the hospital, oh no…a setback, reigniting old feelings, interviewing for a job elsewhere, saving the day, dramatic irony, and having a second chance at love. Moreover, Sara and Noah, the protagonists, were soulmates and gushed with chemistry. I kept rooting for them. Additionally, I appreciated the author’s vivid descriptions, which included imagery, figurative language, and down-to-earth word choices that created a warm tone, as evident in phrases like “His own thoughts and feelings were crashing against each other like waves on the sand.” Overall, I liked the compassionate narrative.

What a fabulous reunion in many ways! Life turned upside down more than once in Sara‘a life. Her aunt Lil needs help at the inn because she broke her hip. Not even a thought and Sara was on her on a plane to Florida. Reuniting with old friends that all grew up on the island. And an old love she knew in Boston that just disappeared is there also, so many questions. If you love the beach and lighthouses and a love story? You will love this first book in a new series.
I’ve gone back and read a book and here and there and have completed a series or three!! Never disappointed in what Kay Correll writes!

She has negative feelings towards him, but others living in the island have high regards for him who they’ve reported he has impacted their island community wondrously. Inspiring read on relationships, life choices and forgiveness.

Loved this book. It is about Sara and Noah. Sara has come home to help her Aunt Lil who has fallen and broke her hip. She owns the Charming Inn. Noah has lived there for 20 years. They have a past. Both are mistaken as to the reasons they lost touch. The lighthouse’s magic is strong and draws them together.

This book made me want to visit Belle Island and stay at the Charming Inn. Kay Correll has created a perfect group of characters that make you want them as your best friends. Her descriptions of Belle Island are so perfect I can see the lighthouse and hear the waves rolling on the beach. This is a must read series. Now I’m off to get Book 2.

After two or three chapters you know how this story will end and that’s all right. It’s in the telling that the author shows her skill. The characters are recognizable, the story moves along, the writing is good. The basis is laid for more in the series.

It may not be classical literature for the ages but it readable and enjoyable.

working herself down to get the promotion she wanted, Sara lost touch with her Aunt. It wasn't until her Aunt got sick, did she finally see what she truly wanted in life. I enjoyed this charming book. Loved how it interacted with the other characters. Truly a pleasure to read.

What a delightful read. I love how family and friends stand together when the need arises. Work position and money are not always the solution to everything and can cost you dearly. How far will these characters go to find real love and joy.

Although, as with most romance stories it was fairly easy to figure out the outcome after the first chapter, it was fun finding out how the happy ending was achieved. Kudus to Kay Correll for a pleasant story.
