Loyalty will bind them together—or tear them apart.
Nightfall still holds Alveria in its grip. Terrifying ghosts continue to haunt the stricken kingdom, while crops wither in the fields from lack of sunlight. If the light doesn’t return soon, thousands will starve.
But a worse fate awaits the Untameables.
Laini Unclaimed has revealed the shocking truth discovered after her journey to the hallowed realm: the gods are not lost but have instead been reborn on Earth as mere mortals in order to face their ultimate destruction for rejecting Hel.
The goddess’s bitterness is far too familiar, as the sting of the dragon hunter Tyr’s betrayal remains fresh in Laini’s mind. Yet as her connection to Hel grows, Laini sees the damage that results in allowing the past to infect the present—and she’s determined not to make the same mistake as the vengeful god.
Armed with newfound faith in her fellow rag-tag band of Untameables, Laini and the dragons must track down the rest of the young gods and protect them from the rapidly growing cult of Hel—before the power of their worship allows the goddess to break free from the shackles of the underworld.
As Hel’s threat looms closer, Laini must rise up and fight for those she believes in.
Ava Richardson writes epic page-turning Young Adult Fantasy books. She creates lovable characters and drops them into intricate worlds that are barely contained within your eReader. Ava has written 21 YA dragon fantasy series, including her bestselling series Return of the Darkening and her recent series, Destia's Dragon Shifter War.
She grew up on a steady diet of fantasy and science fiction books handed down from her two big brothers – and despite being dog-eared and missing pages, she loved escaping into the magical worlds that those authors created. Her favorites were the ones about dragons; where they’d swoop, dive and soar through the skies of these enchanted lands.
This is the second book in Ava Richardson's Alveria Dragon Akademy's Untameables. Laini Unclaimed had discovered that the gods had been reborn on Earth as mortals. She and the dragons must find the gods and protect them from Hel.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It was nice to see Laini interacting with the dragons. I loved that it had lots of action and is based on Norse Mythology.
Would be good to read the first book in the series before reading this one.
I received an ARC copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Words can not describe how much I'm loving this series. I could never have imagined the depth of this story. It's utterly fantastic.
I even shed a few tears.
If you're a lover of fantasy, then I highly recommend you read this entire series. AR has done an amazing job building a deep, meaningful, and fantastical world. The characters are amazing and easy to connect with. The character development is fantastic. This is definitely ranked very high on my list of favorite series.
BUT if they don’t bring Ollie, Tyr, and Orrin back I will be majorly disappointed.
My BIGGEST pet peeve is when an author kills off or gets rid of a main character. It’s just not the same. It’s like The Office taking away Michael from Dunder Mifflin. It’s just not the same afterward.
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title.
It is difficult to sum this particular episode up, without giving a lot of the story away. There is death destruction and mayhem. A true good versus evil fight to the very end. With sacrifices and loose of those that you have become fimaliar with. However, we are left we some hope. I, for one, are looking forward to the next episode, "Dragon Family" This is a very individual and unique tale. Very different from the normal saga of this type. I appreciate the uniqueness!
Woah, Ava Richardson is so good at world building! These Dragon Akademy books are so immersive.
The storyline is really cool, but I like the characters best. Richardson has created Laini to be someone the reader is really journeying with. We want here to succeed, we are sad when she is sad, we love when she loves. Excellent!

The previous 5 books in this series have been just as mesmerizing with magic, dragons and requited love as this one. I have been long searching for a series like Michael Sullivan's, Riyria Books, The Lord of the Rings Books, the Harry Potter Books and the Twilight Books to fill my Magical need. Ava Richardson with her Dragon Books has fulfilled that need. Her Books are page turners. I can barely put them down to tend to my real life!
This is a great series. I love the main characters, they are strong and seem to fit together. The writing and story will keep the pages flying by. This is a great entertaining read. Great Reading Everyone!

Dragon’s Untameable introduced us to Laini’s world: her magic, her friends and her desire for a family. After building the tension in a satisfying manner in the first book, I was looking forward to continuing the story. I have mixed feelings this time.
Laini as a key character still gives me doubts. In some ways, you’re seeing her grow and develop. She’s more confident in her powers and now fights for what’s right. But her growth is stunted: there are random moments where she laments about belonging; worrying over the truth of her bond with the other Untameables. It reads like her emotions could change in a flash if proved they are/n’t technically family, undermining the relationships developing.
There are times when Laini wishes for the adults to come in and take charge: this same girl prepared to risk everything to help in the first book. It’s like her growth is controlled in order for her to flourish in the third part but, for now, undermines away the hero status Laini gained earlier. Which was a real shame!
It was at the core of who he was, who he’d always been, to protect the defenceless.
Tyr remains a favourite. He’s mourning the loss of his mentor and his relationship with Laini, but he’ll protect the girls, whatever it takes, and not because of the threat of execution hanging over him. You see him deal with problems rather than hoping someone else will pick them up, while facing some of the same difficulties as Laini.
Richardson keeps the secondary characters on the side-lines, but you feel for them more. The twins are likeable now they’re not as haughty, and a new prince – Orrin – adds an interesting dynamic into the group. Adding additional people and relationships help you invest more, but I felt they come in fully formed to serve a role, rather than having the potential to advance in their own right. With Laini’s development going in circles, I wanted to see the others pick up that growth.
Characters aside, the structure also caused problems for me. There’s an exciting start, with a real build-up of tension as pieces of the puzzle are revealed. It’s fast-paced, gripping and… stops. A big revelation happens early, and it felt the book lost all momentum at that point. The peak was too fast, and the rest had to work twice as hard and didn’t quite deliver.
That being said, it gets going. This was more emotional than previous Ava Richardson books and you know you’re invested when events make you catch your breath. I’m keeping this spoiler free, but you learn the hard way that you care for the heroes, despite their flaws.
Dragon Gods felt like a classic second book. Characters are introduced and developed just enough to still have the potential to surprise you. The plot advanced to where it needed to be, then pauses for the climax to occur in the final instalment.
It’s an emotional read and presents key themes including accepting where you belong and protecting those you care about, regardless of blood-ties. I look forward to the conclusion.
This story kept me up all night reading! I'm so into this story that I definitely can't wait for the next and last story in this series!! I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens next!
After not particularly enjoying the first book in this series I was a little hesitant about reading this next book. Yet, this was far better! It had plenty of action and I loved how the writer incorporated Nordic mythology with dragons - so novel! The ending was fantastic, it has made me want to read the next installment in this series so I can find out what happens next. There were parts that I struggled to get engaged and connected with, similar to the first book, and I did find myself skim reading at times. However, the large volume of action and twists made up for it!
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for sending me a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
You know how you feel when you watch the second installment of a 3 part movie and you might think "this is pointless" or something similar. Do you ever read a second installment of some other book series and you feel like its just a filler till you get to the third book? That is not the case with Dragon Gods. This book has more action, more mysteries that are unraveled, questions answered and even dinner new ones. The characters have developed even more and the story is still uncomplicated but gripping enough to keep you reading the rest. I did not however enjoy reading about how Laini was feeling after Tyr hurt her and how she was keeping everyone at arms length, self preservation and all that jazz. I just felt that that particular situation was mentioned too many times in the same chapter. I understand her but it was a little drawn out. There were times that the story could have slowed down but I do appreciate the momentum in other spots. This series so far is better and stronger in how the author wrote this particular story. I enjoyed reading this book, and I'm ready for the last installment.

I received this novel from net galley and the publisher. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own. This novel was a great sequel to the previous novel. More action, dragons, and magic! The Untameables have discovered something about themselves: they are the Gods reborn. This puts them in a more dangerous situation than ever, with Hel wanting to destroy them all and have the world worship her alone. They need to find the other Gods, before Hel kills them. Laini will be tested more than ever, and some of her choices will have undesired outcomes and regrets. She still feels betrayal from Tyr, yet she loves him. She does not want to open herself to love, for the loss is too great. Tyr has fallen in love with Laini and wants her forgiveness, but gives her time. Tyr is still her protector, but due to his association with the Hunters, is now on probation and will be retried after the Untameables get control of their powers. The Untameables must be wary of those around them, for Hel has infiltrated the Hunters, the Akademy, and other factions. Hel is growing stronger and the Untameables must find the others, for together they can stop Hel and end Nightfall. Looking forward to the next novel!
Dragon Gods seriously levelled up from the first book, which I really enjoyed anyway! There was so much action which really increased the pace, I didn’t want to put it down. The character growth was also amazing, one issue I had with book 1 was I felt like Thea and Lokari were too similar and hard to distinguish, but they really individualised in Dragon Gods and I fell in love with both of their characters. We were also introduced to a host of new characters, I liked how these introductions were staggered throughout the book so we really got to know each of them before being thrown another one. Basically, I can’t wait for the third instalment of this series. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the copy!
Laini Unclaimed - Laini Untameable - Laini will restore light to the Akademy.
The battle against Hel was in full flight, the Dragon Gods in mortal bodies. More than half of them had been sent to the Underworld by Hel and her cult followers. Hel's magic is depleted, but so is Laini's. The battle will continue.
Once again, the Dragon Akademy is under siege. Hel's blanket of darkness and the ghosts that thrived in the dark were terrorizing the living around the Akademy. A brilliant new storyline and bright, sharp and distinct characters bring life to this tale. The author has done her brilliant best again. My only problem now, is waiting two more weeks for the conclusion! A seriously amazing read, I highly recommend it!
This is book 2 in the Alveria Dragon Akademy's Untameables series and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
This is an excellent follow up story and it runs straight on from the previous book so I do recommend that you read them in order.
This book had action and romance and I loved it - there was always something happening. I thought that the characters were strong and the story was easy to follow too. It was very easy to get caught up in their adventures and it is certainly one I will be recommending!!
It is 5 stars again from me for this one, I am finding it to be a thoroughly enjoyable series and can't wait to see what the author releases next! Very highly recommended!!
Another great book to the series. The author once again brings an exciting and entertaining story with strong, well developed characters. She does a great job bringing the story to life with her descriptive writing and vividly detailed scenes and had me hooked from start to finish reading. I'm looking forward to the next book. Highly recommend reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Another action-packed and fast-paced story in the series! The plot thickens, the stakes are higher while the characters keep evolving, The narrative is excellent, easy to follow, with vivid descriptions, and the plot twists kept me glued to my e-reader screen. I can't wait for the next installment in the series!
