The Wicked Winters #6

Wild in Winter

Rate this book
Gill, the Duke of Coventry, has never been the sort of gentleman who woos ladies with effortless ease. In fact, he’s never even kissed a woman, let alone courted one. But as the new duke, he’s in need of a wealthy bride to replenish his dwindling familial coffers. Preferably a sweet, calm bride who is equally reserved. A bride who is nothing at all like Miss Christabella Winter.

Christabella is looking for passion. She longs for forbidden kisses in hidden alcoves, for a dashing rake to sweep her off her feet. Therefore, her dratted infatuation with the shy Duke of Coventry makes no sense. Particularly since he cannot be bothered to speak to her in complete sentences.

When she inadvertently learns the duke has never been kissed, however, Christabella forms the perfect plan. She can show him how to win a lady’s heart and kiss him out of her system at the same time. But the problem with kisses is they often lead to something more, and soon, the only heart she wants him to win is hers.

Sad to see it end....

But wait there will be more!!! Not until late 2020 but I love this family. I loved how the heroes were totally besotted by the heroines and there were no other women or misunderstandings . It was a great series. Christabella wanted a rake but she got a lot more than that with the wonderful virgin Duke. He was hot. I loved him and I loved her. The scene where she tries to make him talk was so funny and the book was amazing all the way through. I loved the ending and I can't wait to read about the next chapter of Winters!!

Gill, Duke of Coventry was very shy but was in need of a wealthy wife due to his father’s actions. Gill had a cruel father and this has affected his relationship with other people. He also wanted someone who was quiet as his wife. Christabella was the complete opposite to Gill, she said and did what she liked. She longs for passion and is looking for a rake to fulfil her needs. Christabella loves a challenge. I enjoyed the way she teased Gill out of his shyness. They both have siblings that they are very close to. This was a delightful story of two people who although they had very different personalities, found what they needed in each other. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Plot
The hero Gill, Duke of Coventry is attending (to look for a wealthy wife) a house party hosted by the heroine, Christabella's brother and his wife. He suffers from severe social anxiety making it difficult to woo a wife and she wants to marry a rake! Why not practice courting & kissing with each other? Well when one conversation turns into two and one kiss turns into too many, we have a HEA on our hands!

What I liked
The classic premise - a hero tortured (literally & emotionally) by his past and a heroine who is the light to his darkness, hoping to save him a kiss at a time.

The chemistry between the characters is beautifully described, both in conversations/ exchange of wit and passions, considering unexperienced Dukes are a rare breed. I am partial to witty banter. The characters are fleshed out well, there is no 'big misunderstanding'.

The story is pretty crisp and fast-paced, convey's the passion, difficulties faced by the characters, humour and wit well to the reader. Scarlett Scott is a talented writer, considering it can be difficult to manage the trauma of parental abuse in few pages, but I can say that it has not been diminished as she has described the symptoms and the background of it well.

Why not 5 Stars
It was great but not mind-blowing for me, something was missing from making it a 5 starer. I can't put my finger on it, but when I do I shall re-edit this review and let you all know!

The Hero
I loved Gill. He is not your typical rakish Duke, he suffers from a traumatic past due to his father's abusive behaviour which has resulted in social anxiety and feels unworthy of love. Though he has a shell around him, he is protective of his younger brother. I also liked that he is aware very consciously of his social shortcomings and does not trivialize nor sensationalize them, to be considerate to his company. He cares, simply speaking. He is capable of a full range of emotions but is just unable to express them well. I especially appreciated that because 'hardened to everything due to past' is overused.

The Heroine
I loved Christabella too. She is a breath of fresh air. In about 250 something HR books I have read, I have never come across a heroine who desperately wanted to marry a rake! She is unabashed but also sweet and caring. She is understanding of his social anxiety and just about presumptuous enough to think she can help him without venturing into obnoxious (I dislike presumptuous characters). I also liked that she shares an amazing bond with her sisters. The best part of Christabella for me was that You go girl! If I am nitpicking the only thing I did not like was that she could have been a bit more empathetic when Gill shares his past with her.

My recommendation
I recommend this entire series. Please go ahead and read them all. Scarlett Scott made me fall in love with the Winters!!

Gill and Bella are so funny together, their relationship is a riot of amusement and serious emotion.

The two are drawn together even when they are seriously looking in the other direction.
They can’t seem to help the attraction a bit like magnets always brought back together.

Scarlett is a great writer and this series has been wonderful, but if you think it’s all over , think again.

Brilliant book loved the characters and storyline and the chemistry that gave me many laughs, especially the snowballs .

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

I loved this book. Gill and Christabella are my favorite couple. Gill is the super shy Duke of Coventry who is in desperate need of a wealthy wife. Gill’s father was a cruel man who left Gill with deep emotional scars; Gill has never even kissed a woman. He and his rakish younger brother are attending the Winter family’s country Christmas party. The purpose was to find titled husbands for the Winter ladies.

Enter Christabella Winter, she is a breath of fresh air and intent on marrying a rake. Since neither has any experience at lovemaking, Christabella proposes she and Gill practicing kissing with each other.

I loved how Bella and Gill’s passion and love blossomed, with Bella taking the lead in charming her shy duke out of his shell.

Great characters, lovely series to spend time reading.

Okay this author has repeated almost verbatim the same story for each of these Winter family novella's the very same wording and identical scenes from story to story!! I am glad I got them free on Kindle Unlimited !! These Novellas certainly are not worth $2.99 for kindle edition they are just a little over 100 pages.

I did like The Duke of Coventry and Christabella!

Wild in Winter is book six in Scarlett Scott’s Wicked Winters series, but it works perfectly fine as a standalone story. The only element that feels a bit odd if it’s read as a standalone story is the final chapter, as it provides details to continue the series beyond this, which felt a bit forced if you haven’t read the prior books yet clearly has an impact for those that have followed the series.

Wild in Winter contains all the feels I’ve come to expect from Scarlett Scott, all whilst providing a story that goes against the historical romance norm. I was pulled into this one from the very first page, happy to devour the story in a single sitting. I quickly fell for the characters and their story and loved watching the way things developed. Although a quick read, it more than packs a punch.

Another wonderful read from Scarlett Scott.

This is probably my favorite of the entire series! I love a feisty heroine like Christabella, who isn't afraid to speak her mind, and who is innocent but not a shrinking violet. I loved her sense of adventure and her dating spirit. And the hero, Gill ... Oh, Gill! A sweet, quiet man with a dark last that has made him socially inept. But when Christabella gets hold of him, he finds himself opening up in a way he never has. Did I mention he's a virgin? If anything, the strength of his need and unfulfilled desire only made him sexier! These two were a match made in heaven. They made me smile and laugh, and reading about them discovering love and pleasure together was really something special.
In an interesting twist, there seen to be more Winter books coming soon and I can't wait to see what happens next!

Icy, starchy, socially anxious, virgin, never been kissed Duke.

His first kiss at 28 years old and the man explodes...

That scene will live rent free for a while in my mind.

That alone, is 5 stars.

Enjoyed both main characters, this is a very fun novella.

4.5 stars rounded up.

Christabella Winter may just be the wildest of her scandalous siblings. She longs for romance and hopes to marry an experienced, charming rake. That makes her growing attraction to the shy Duke of Coventry a bit of a bother, especially when he can hardly deign to speak to her.

Gill Rawdon, the Duke of Coventry, has never even kissed a woman, much less charmed one with smooth words. But he's inherited his wastrel father's estates, along with his massive debts, so Gill is in need of a wealthy wife and soon. He'd prefer a sweet wife who's as reserved as he is, certainly nothing like the bold Christabella Winter.

When Christabella finds out the duke has never been kissed, she decides they should practice together. She can get rid of her pesky attraction to him and prepare herself for the rake she hopes to marry and she can teach Gill how to woo a lady. But as they spend more time together, Christabella begins to have difficulty picturing Gill with another lady or herself with another man as the feelings between them grow, though Gill's shyness may prevent them from moving forward together.

I really enjoyed this one. Gill was lovely as a shy and rather tortured hero who is far more complex than anyone suspects. Christabella did get on my nerves a bit with her insistence on a rake and her romanticism of what a rake actually is, but she eventually, thankfully, came to her senses. I loved that she helped Gill see his own worth and I think that's what truly made this story for me. Both Gill and Christabella matured and developed quite a bit in a short time and I thought that was great.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The sixth & finale of the Wicked Winters & I’ve loved everyone of them, this is no exception, of course we’ve met Gill & Christabella in earlier books so I’d been looking forward to their story. Another well written page turning engrossing read that I read in a sitting. I loved every page of it. I loved how Gill opened to Belle, from not speaking to one word answers to talking & laughing. I must admit there was a squee when a secret was revealed!
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

The Hellion And Her Duke

I absolutely loved this book! Book 6 in this fun Regency Romance about five beautiful sisters with a loving older brother. Mr. Dev Winter wants his sisters to marry good, loving gentleman!
Miss. Christabella Winter is a beautiful, red haired, blue-green eyed sister who is not betrothed. She is considered a hellion, too outspoken, and wild. When all she wants is a handsome rake to court her.
Gill, the Duke of Coventry and his younger brother were invited to the Winters for a house party. Gill is shy and reserved, his brother, who is book 5 was a rake!
When Gill and Christabella meet in her family library, they are attracted to each other. She is refreshingly daring and outspoken, he is tongue tied.
When she finds out he has never kissed, well she insists on teaching him! From that lesson this story line gets better and better!
Such a refreshingly, well written book, with attention to details, I love that about Scarlett Scott’s books! The book flows, and the characters are fun, and interesting, especially a Lady Adele.
I laughed, I cried and I simply loved this series! Each book has an original story line, each sister is different and together they are a force to reckon with!
They all have happily ever afters and tastefully written love ❤️ scenes. I’m glad she saved Christabella and Gill for her last book, because their story is sooo different from the others. I recommend reading this series, you will not be disappointed!

This is the story of Christabella Winter and Gill Rawdon, the Duke of Coventry. Christabella is very idealistic and flighty. She thinks she needs to marry a rake. That didn’t sit very well with me at first, but I pressed on and am glad I did.

Gill is certainly not a rake. He’s a virgin who has never been kissed! He’s a victim of his wastrel father’s abuse and as a result, he is a man of few words. But he's handsome and he has a title, even if the estate is financially destitute! Christabella has a lot of money, but she doesn’t fit the prim duchess ideal that Gill envisions.

When she discovers that Gil has never been kissed, Christabella presumptuously and scandalously decides she will practice kissing with Gil so they can prepare for their future partners. She risks her own ruin in order to experiment with a man she dismisses as a suitable mate. Luckily, she eventually comes to her senses and sees the worth of the man right in front of her. Gil has to overcome his painful shyness and social awkwardness. He has to find the gumption and courage to pursue what he wants, because he deserves happiness.

Will they get their HEA?

Wild in Winter by Scarlett Scott is book Six in The Wicked Winters Series. This is the story of Gill, the Duke of Coventry and Christabella Winter. I have read the previous books which did add to my enjoyment of this one, but I did feel it was a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Gill is newly appointed Duke and now needs to find a well mannered wife. But he doesn't know how to woo a women and never even kissed one because he is somewhat shy. Christabella knows she wants to have a hot passionate love and the excitement of sneaking in kisses. But for some reason she feels drawn to Gill who doesn't even talk to her nor make any motion of passionate displays towards her. So when she learns his secret she feel compelled to help him and to help herself overcome this attraction for him. But nothing goes they way she thinks. Loved their story and hope to read more from this author soon!!

Those Winters are so worthy of a binge!💗

These entertaining historcial romances, by new to me author Scarlett Scott, are filled with layer upon layer of sexy innuendos, flirty fun and charming Regency era dialogue with enough steamy moments to permanently melt your Kindle.

The devilishly handsome, wealthy beyond imagination, eldest Winter is determined to gain respectability for his 5 independent, beautiful sisters and himself by marrying into the British aristocracy. At least that was his plan! Beginning in London and ending with a month long holiday house party at their rambling country estate, a wild time awaits with exciting characters, each with their own stories to share. It seems there is no rest for the wicked, who are unable to resist embroiling themselves in inappropriate situations while looking for love in every darkened corner.   What else would you expect from this unusual family??

These stories were hard to put down, easy to love, brimming with laughter, witty banter, naughtiness and flirty fun, ensuring that this delightfully delicious Wicked Winter series is worthy of a nice long binge, sure to warm you up on many a long, cold night. I am so happy to have found Scarlett Scott, with her easy, witty writing style and swoonworthy storylines, to add to my list of go to historical authors.

The Winter sisters are a force to be reckoned with, and Christabella is known as the hellion of the group! That's not a bad thing, since it helps her get a reaction from Gill, the Duke of Coventry!! Gill is very shy, is a man of few words and he's a virgin, not having even kissed a woman. He's also got a past that will break your heart.

I so enjoyed their story, you can't help but gasp at some of Christabella's antics, especially for a woman of that era but you also can't help but laugh at how she gets Gill to respond to her. Teaching each other how to kiss is a brilliant idea, but one that comes with consequences! Falling in love was not part of the plan but then plans often go awry, don't they!! Oh yes, this story is delicious and Scarlett Scott knows how to keep your attention from start to finish.

I haven't read any of the previous books in this series (gasp!) but now I will be certain to read them as my interest in the Winter sisters has certainly been piqued!!

It wasn’t horrible by any means but after the previous book which set this one up nicely, it was rather a let down.

I really liked Christabella. She’s smart and funny even if most everyone else thinks she’s a hellion or airhead. She reflects on certain things more than a lot of characters in this series. But she’s not necessarily tested well. Especially by Gill off and on throughout the book. It got to the point that since he couldn’t decide if he cared about her or not. Who wants a partner like that? Christabella didn’t. She also kept her head enough to question things and not be caught up in lust, I wish she’d been given more credit in the story for this.

The opposites attract was good. She wanted a rake, we’ve know it for multiple books, and she was caught off guard by Gill and her attraction to him. She discovered she wanted passion and love.

I really wish Scarlett Scott would have gone more in depth about the abuse Gill suffered as a build. It would have been a great conversation for them to share and learn more about one another.

This is my first book in the series and I loved it. You will not be lost if you haven't read the other stories of the series, so stand alone.

The blurb tells you it is scotching hot and it is so if descriptive body part and action offend you then pass it. Heat level 5 out of 5.

The "F" word is used several times and I thought it was unnecessary.

Our H had an awful childhood that caused him to withdraw from groups. He couldn't talk when it was uncomfortable which was always with people were around. Our h was perfect for him and not intimated because he was a Duke. I loved the transformation the h caused in the H.

Romance builds slowly, HEA, no cheating, no cliffhanger for our couple, but more siblings are discovered so I can't wait to read their stories. (ljb)

A duke who has trouble speaking in public and speaking with women in general and a wild Winter who has absolutely no trouble speaking her mind. What do these two have in common? Nothing but does that stop attraction and respect? In simple terms, no. Gill is so sweet and even though he thinks he wants a biddable wife, love decides to take him in a different direction. Right to Christabella. The chemistry is flying off the pages and the story is so entrancing that you will want to read it all in one sitting. This is a couple that will make you love snowball fights and kissing lessons.

I received a complimentary copy from the author.

Wonderful ending to an amazing series. Dev Winter is determined to have his five sisters married to gentlemen of the ton, so is having a house party to hopefully make good matches. Christabella is determined to marry a rake, so the Duke of Coventry, a shy, quiet man who admits he has never even kissed a lady before, is not what she is looking for. Love the characters in this story, and the rest of the family. You can read this as a standalone, but why? Do yourself a favour and read the series. Highly recommend.

Those Winter sisters are at it again!
Absolutely one of the most hilarious courtships. It's the same Winter country Christmas party. Christabelle Winter wants to marry a rake, but for some reason she keeps bumping into Gill, the Duke of Coventry. He's looking for a nice quiet young lady to marry, but there's something about Belle. Both virgins who've never been kissed are suddenly kissing and touching and... there's that book again! One of the best series! Oh.. and there's a nice twist at the end of the story.

This is the story of two people who want to kiss… so they do.
Do they belong together? That is what they need the rest of the chapters to find out.
No plot. Just two people kissing and figuring out their feelings.

Innocence in losing it: 3/5
Build up to losing it: 4.5/5
Hotness of losing it: 3/5
