You know, I never really liked Bart Simpson. Bartmania never really caught on to me, I've always been more of a Homer guy.
That being said, let's talk about this really fun parody, Bartman.
This is obviously is a parody of Batman, but it's not like other parody books or "deconstructions" that really don't understand what they're talking about. It really feels like the writer understands what comic book super heroes are and how to make fun of the sometimes overly dramatic or dumb plotlines that we read.
Who is Bartman? He is a vigilante looking up for the boys who are bullied and the comic book fans getting ripped off by phony comic book deals. Armed crime? It's beneath Bartman.
It's a funny book that takes itself way too seriously for a ridiculous plot, and that's what makes it good. Some of the plotlines like the crossover with Radioactive Man or the super hero Springfield crisis require you to read the other Simpsons books.
I would also say that the episodic nature of the series hurts a bit the story, for a moment I thought that the first issue was part of a deeper plot, but it ended up being just a tease.
If you love the Simpsons but are unsatisfied with the current state of the series, take a look back at these comic book pages. They are much more worth your time.
