Happy dancing in the snow over a new Alaskan series by Belle Calhoune! And what an introduction to Owl Creek! Once again, this author has created the kind of town you want to call home. A wee bit quirky and a whole lot of quaint and it has a chocolate factory! (Warning: reading this book may induce extreme chocolate cravings!) And it's full of interesting secondary characters (including a couple of bachelor types that need their own HEAs!)

Hank Crawford does a mighty fine job of being the series' first hero. Doting single dad with a protective streak that extends to all the girls in his family (mother, sister, daughter) and the whole town, for that matter. He's sworn off women after a particularly disastrous betrayal but then he meets Sage and...

Well, the happy sighs have to be put on hold because Sage is harboring a pretty big secret. The kind that will affect a lot of people if it gets out...and she's not sure she wants it to. She's come to Owl Creek to find answers to questions she didn't know she had until a few months ago. Yearning for some kind of closure means falling in love with the town sheriff, who has a very good reason to distrust secretive women, is totally out of the equation. Until it happens.

Cue the anxiety riddled tummy flips and nervous-Nelly jitters because things get worse before they get better. If you like to revel in romantical angst in the midst of toe-curls and swoons, you've reached for the right book. Deliciously addictive from the very first page.

For those who have been wanting more “realistic” fiction in the Christian Fiction category, this book might be something you’d be interested in. The main girl was abducted as a baby, possible mental illnesses are discussed, and the main guy of this story has a daughter out of wedlock (which he says twice that he regrets being intimate outside of marriage). Because of these things, I hesitate to recommend it for those under 16, but it was all handled very carefully and was overall clean.

There were the typical, slightly corny lines that I expect from a Love Inspired book, but because I was interesting to see the ending and reveal, I tried not to focus on the romance side of this book all that much. I did find a few different parts to be a bit odd (such as Hank called his mother by her first name when talking to Sage about her and the next paragraph’s note), but overall it was a decent story.

*Note: I wasn’t the biggest fan of Hank and his thought process in this paragraph: “He wanted to kiss her. Truthfully, he had wanted to kiss her for quite some time now, but his desire to steer clear of complications had veered him off course. His head had ruled his emotions. And why shouldn’t he share an embraced with a lovely woman with whom he’s established a special connection. This opportunity might never crop up again. Sage would be leaving town soon and he would be left with a host of regrets if he didn’t at least try to act on his instincts.” And then he kisses her. Personally, this rubbed me the wrong way.

*Note: With the adoption aspect of this book, it may be difficult for some adoptees to read. Sage’s (adoptive, though it wasn’t a legal adoption) mother told her father that she had rescued Sage from two underage teens who hadn’t been able or willing to raise her. Her adoptive father was convinced that Sage was an abandoned baby. Later says he overlooked all the red flags and accepted his wife’s story without question. Sage knew she was adopted and always felt like she didn’t belong—which she attributed that feeling because she was adopted, she now think it was because she was abducted. Words like “rescued” and “abandoned” are used often when referring to the past.

Sage comes to Owl Creek on a strange mission. Her dying mother had made a startling confession. Sage was not her child, but had been stolen from a well to do family in Owl Creek. The North Family owns a chocolate factory and has had huge business successes, but they are still reeling from the kidnapping of their baby girl 25 years ago. They have again posted a reward for her return, this time, larger than ever, and the media has again descended. How will Sage tell them who she is, and will they believe her? And how will she handle her developing feelings for the town sheriff?

This is a nice start to the Return to Owl Creek series. The town of Owl Creek is a lovely tourist town, and the residents are interesting characters that I would like to read about again. Sage's conflict is believable, and the resolution is satisfying.

If you are interested in inspirational stories of families torn apart with a chance to be reunited, you will like this book.

Of my goodness, what a passionate beautiful written story.... Excellent plot, fabulous characters, truly emotionally interesting...

From the very first page to the very ending of this book, I was holding my breath with excitement, anticipation and anxiety. I fully understand Sage Duncan dilemma and why she couldn't confess the truth. I love everyone and everything in Owl Creek, Alaska, (The entire North Family: Beulah, Jenning, Willa, Nate, Conner, Brendan along with Hank, Trudy and Piper). I wish I could just move to this beautiful fictional town...

I just love reading Belle Calhoune's books. They are cozy, sensitive, compassionate and overly enjoyable. I highly recommend this book and all of Ms. Calhoun books.

What a wonderful story this is! This author knows Alaska and her stories about small towns in Alaska are fabulous! This is the first book in a new series and I've already fallen in love with the characters and then town. Sage Duncan is the famous kidnapped Alaskan baby from 25 years ago but she just recently found out herself. She decides to return to Owl Creek to learn about the family she was stolen from and get some answers but not disclose her identity. There is a reason why she decides not to do this and in her mind, it's a valid one. However, when she meets sheriff Hank Crawford on the first day there, and his amazing family, it gets harder and harder to keep her secret. Then there is her birth family, which she discovers, is also amazing. What will she do? I loved knowing all of Sage's thoughts and especially the anguish she was going through. It was a terrific book!

I've never been to Alaska, but now I think I want to move there!! I really enjoyed this book, and loved the chocolate factory aspects of it. Belle Calhoune did a fantastic job of bringing the quaint and cozy town of Owl Creek to life. The different landmarks, the characters, even wildlife...just so much attention to detail it made it easy to get lost in the words. I'm looking forward to reading the next books that come out in this series.

I like stories about Alaska and the small town of Owl Creek in Alaska was just perfect. The breath-taking setting and tight-knit community made me want to live there.

Sage got quite a shock when, on her deathbed, her mother confessed to kidnapping her as a baby. Anxious to learn where she came from, she went to find out about her birth-family in Alaska. She expected to arrive in the town unnoticed but that didn't happen. The family lived in a small town where everybody knew everybody else. So she stuck out like a sore thumb. Finding information about her birth-family was harder than she expected, especially with Sheriff Hank Crawford watching her. Keeping his town safe was important to Hank. Almost as important as his baby girl. Getting used to being a single dad and keeping watch over Owl Creek were full-time jobs. When Sage Duncan came to town for a break from teaching, he didn't believe that was her only reason for the visit and was going to find out what she was hiding. Does it have something to do with it being the 25th anniversary of the disappearance of Lily North? Lily had been kidnapped as a baby and the anniversaries were always hard on the family and town. But the 25th anniversary was especially difficult for them. Since the North family were wealthy owners of the local chocolate factory, the disappearance attracted some wanna-be Lilys. Is Sage one of those?

The characters in this story are very likeable and easy to identify with. I liked the way the community supported each other and were especially kind to the North family who never stopped searching for their kidnapped daughter. Readers who enjoy small-town romantic suspense will love this story.

I purchased this book because I already read the other 3 books in this series (and loved them) and wanted to read all the details about Sage's story! With that being said, I already knew what the ending of this book would hold but that didn't stop me from enjoying every bit of this story!
Can you imagine being in Sage's shoes? Her mother confesses to abducting Sage right before she dies. No questions answered about it, no closure for Sage. Kudos to Sage for pursuing the breadcrumbs she found that potentially connected her with Owl Creek, Alaska! Of course, nothing was concrete, but it gave her a place to start looking. She falls in love with the small town, and the people there, but she knows her father could be prosecuted for the abduction if she pursues her quest to find her biological family. She is very torn at what to do!
I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who loves clean inspirational love stories. While you are at it, grab the following three books that take place in Owl Creek, because you know you'll want to hear Gabe, Braden, and Connor's stories too!

I have to admit that I read this series a bit backwards. I’ve read the other books and then decided I’d better read book 1, since author Belle Calhoune has become a favorite of mine.

In Her Secret Alaskan Family, we meet some wonderful characters in a great story line. Owl Creek has become my favorite fictional place. I’d love to visit there and spend time with everyone.

Sage and Hank are each up against a difficult past. Neither fully trusts anyone, as you’ll see as you read, but I won’t tell you why beyond the fact that Sage had been abducted as an infant. Both characters are strong willed and have incredible depth. They truly want what’s best for those they love, even if it means sacrifice on their part.

The secondary characters are equally as well done. They all drew me into the story and helped make the story richer.

A clean romance, I loved this book and highly recommend it!

So,

I picked up this one because I liked the cover! And I'm taking it really hard that there's no cover picture available here on Goodreads. Edit: There's a cover picture! Yay, thank you!

I also picked up this story as an attempt to try something new. Never have I ever read a Christian Fiction novel, and I'm not terribly inclined to try it again any time soon. While the "Anastasia-n-esque" theme of this tale was promising, there was a lack of character development, particularly with Sage, who remained the same bland/sweet personality throughout. Also, I felt the plot had so much potential for arc-propelling friction which, tragically, fell short. For example, what if Teresa had been Hank's current girlfriend instead of ex? That would have put a whole new element of challenge into Sage's case, both for Hank's heart and as the true identity of Lily North.

Overall, this novel was a quick read: quaint, pleasant, heartwarming, and the cleanest book I have ever read. Like, ever.

This was such a great story!! I didn't want to put it down! Sage finds out that she's not really who she always thought she was, but she doesn't want her father to be hurt. She decides to set out to see what her birth family is like, and to try to figure out what to do. When she meets Hank and his daughter, Addie, she becomes even more conflicted. Will she be able to leave everyone behind, or will she stay in Alaska and find what she's been looking for all along? Sage needed to learn that she's not in control, and that if she'd given things to God and trusted others, she wouldn't have had everything blow up in her face. Hank had to learn that everyone isn't painted with the same brush, and locking his heart up wasn't the best thing for him to do. I love how everything worked out!!

Probably my favorite Love Inspired book, as I have read "Her Secret Alaskan Family" over and over and have bought two copies - one paperback and the other on Kindle. Belle's writing style draws her reader into the hearts and minds of her characters, so their reactions to plot twists are realistic and logical. Her characters struggle with grief, deception, betrayal, trust, selfishness and a desire for love and acceptance. I still cry every time I read this book.

This book made me wonder who has an imagination to combine all the twists and turns of this book. It is not a long book but a lot is jammed in without feeling as if the author is trying too hard. I would have liked her to spend more time on the end of the book. There may have been a whole book there! That seems to be this author’s style. I have read two others by Belle Calhoune and when it is over, it is done. Just a fun read.

I am not a fan of category romances and don't usually read them, but I saw this in a thrift store and it sounded interesting.
I didn't like it at all.
The writing was well done following the guidelines for a category romance, but it's not my thing anymore.
My main issue was the main character keeping her agenda secret. Just come out and tell the family the truth!
This is what I hate about romances now. Anyway, I won't be reading any more.

Her Secret Alaskan Family

From time to time tragedy comes to all families but the North family seemingly had more than their share. You'll enjoy the mystery that unfolds and the answer to their prayers as an adopted woman searches for answers to her birth family and finds love in th process.

Back to REAL family

Discovering her past abduction, Sage braves the cold to investigate her real family. A chocolate factory makes the search sweeter and a handsome sheriff provides interesting possibilities. Good character development and word pictures of nature's beauty keep the reader interested.

Clean Sweet Read

This is the first book I have read by this author. The story is very sweet. I do wish there was more of the backstory brought out and it moved just a tad slow. I appreciate that it was clean and the main characters gave honor to God.
