Rate this book
In the heart of Texas, love comes knocking when you least expect it...

The Cowboy and His Wayward Bride

Country singer Laurie Jensen has never forgotten her childhood sweetheart, rancher Harlan Patrick Adams. After all, she admitted she loved him, then left with no explanation when she discovered she was pregnant. Being on the road with a newborn has taken its toll, and she's given everything for her career. The last thing she wants is to settle down--but will she change her mind when her baby's father comes calling?

Suddenly, Annie's Father

Ever since a tragic car accident ruined his career, ex--rodeo star Slade Sutton put down new roots at the Adams family ranch. His hectic life left little room for family--until his ten-year-old daughter lands on his doorstep with no one else to turn to. Slade knows he'll need whatever help he can find--even from mysterious rancher Val Harding. Slade has a heart of gold when it comes to his daughter, but he must discover if there's room in his heart for Val, too.

Sherryl Woods

With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.

"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."

The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.

Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.

A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.

In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.

When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.

Waiting for the right time

The story was very interesting. It took a young girl to get them together. So glad the story ended on a good event. Not so sure I liked how long it took them to finally figure it out. Nice read for a weekend.

This book was really two books in one: "The Cowboy and His Wayward Bride" and "Suddenly, Annie's Father". They both had many of the same characters. The first book involved 2 main characters; Laurie Jensen , a very accomplished country singer, and Harlan Patrick Adams, a very well-to-do, powerful rancher with a large extended family who all lived on, or close to, the White Pines Ranch in Los Pines, Texas.
Laurie, guided along with her best friend and business manager, Val Harding, was busy touring on her tour bus with her baby daughter, Amy Lynn when Harlan Patrick finally caught up with her, after finding out in the tabloids that Laurie had a baby that was his. They had been high school sweethearts and very much in love. The questions are....how will Harlan Patrick, after not seeing Laurie for years and not knowing about her pregnancy, react to the situation, and how will Laurie react to seeing Harlan Patrick after so long, and sharing her daughter?
Val Harding is a very important character in both books. She does anything that needs to be done for Laurie, and is one of the main characters in the second book. She has taken a shine to one of the cowboys that is employed by the ranch, Slade Sutton. She is intelligent, outspoken, and very spontaneous. She does everything she can to get Slade to notice her instead of the horses he works with all of the time. He is oblivious of anything she does to attract his attention. Meanwhile he ends up with his ten-year old daughter, Annie, on his doorstep. There is no one else to care for her. Her mother died, and Slade's parents, who had been caring for her had finally had enough of her escapades. He has no idea how to take care of a little girl, and doesn't seem to have the time to. Val does everything she can to help out Slade with the care of Annie, hoping that Slade will notice and get involved with not only his daughter, but herself as well. He doesn't.
Sherryl Woods always writes great stories, and these two fit the description.

Two stories here, one concerning the hottest new star in the Nashville scene, and the other starring her determined assistant. Laurie and Harlan Patrick have gone back and forth, her career vs. His need to stay at White Pines running the ranch with his father. When their baby girl becomes the latest Adams great-grandchild, the wrangle gets heated. Harlan Patrick will never give up his child and Laurie can't give up her career. Laurie's assistant Val is determined and has set her eye on Slade Sutton, a former rodeo star working at White Pines. He is very resistant, but he also has a ten-year-old daughter who is scarred by her mother's desertion. The three have a long road but Laurie, Grandpa Harlan and even twins Zach and Josh put a hand in.

West Texas Nights: The Cowboy and his Wayward Bride: The Adams Book 13 is by Sherryl Woods. As usual, Sherryl writes a very good book and one everyone who likes her books will like. Harlan Patrick Adams is very upset. He is in love with Laurie Jensen and wants to marry her; but she wanted to focus on her career and left him to sing. When a photographer caught a photo of Laura with her daughter and sold it to the tabloids. This is how Harlan Patrick learned he was a father. He immediately starts working on her to marry him but she continues to say no. Will she ever give in?

My wonderful husband bought me this for Christmas. It may have been the first time he'd ever done that! I'd not have read this ordinarily, but I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I thought. Just two sweet stories, the second carries on with the same characters, but two different couples. An easy summer read.

I’m giving it a three for no other reason that it mostly just wasn’t a banger. Still a great book for when I need to take a day to cleanse my literary palate. Quick and easy read with a little bit of spice and two happily ever afters.

Western romance

2 wonderful stories about love and changing. The first couple find love after the baby is discovered in a newspaper. The second find love through a 10 year old girl. Both are forever.

Lovely family story

I was so upset in the first story that Laurie could keep her baby a secret from the daddy. I was very glad that he didn't let the baby out of his life. I was then happy that Val and Slate got together in second story. I love happy endings.

My first western romance and it was what I expected. Mild in quality but I still enjoyed the fantasy of falling in love with cowboys in Texas.

Communication is the key

Two great stories of how important communication is in a relationship. Add to it trust, love and compromise and you get the whole package.
