What Can I say except THANK YOU so much to Net Galley, the publishers and the author J B Turner for an ARC copy of this five star book, a great read.

Reznick will protect New York City or die trying.

When a group of homegrown attackers takes aim at cops outside a Fourth of July baseball game, black-ops specialist Jon Reznick and his daughter, Lauren, are caught in the cross fire. Jon hunts down two of the gunmen. But the last member of the group is at large and about to launch a fresh killing spree across the city. Cops are under fire, and Jon must stop this madman before more people are killed.

But Jon's renegade tactics and vigilante justice are starting to ruffle some feathers, and his friends in high places might not be able to help him anymore. With leaks inside the FBI and resistance from the NYPD, Reznick doesn't know whom to trust.

He knows one thing: he won't watch the city he loves be torn apart, especially not with his daughter in the crosshairs. But can he get to her in time?

That is the question?

I cannot give this book less than five stars, when I read a book and cannot wait to get back to it, when I cannot stop reading because it is "so good".

If a book has a great main character, action from this first chapter, well paced and action packed through the whole book, gripping, tense, realistic, with added tension due to the story and Reznick and his boss and their relationship.

His daughter , a tough cookie, Jon tough as nails but a great honest , tough character his boss torn between loyalty and rules.

This book has everything with some great touches at the end. Loved this book.

Hard Shot is the seventh book in the Jon Reznick series about a tough-as-nails former Delta operative and CIA Assassin who works with the FBI on off-the-books operations. It’s fairly short but is a complete story. I have read all of this series in order but I don’t think it’s essential to as each adventure stands alone.
These are well-written action-packed gun-toting testosterone romps where the outcome is never in doubt, and I confess I rather enjoy them!

It’s the 4th of July and Jon is taking his daughter, Lauren, a student who is working New York for the summer, to a baseball game, when two gunmen open fire, targeting principally police officers. Shoving Lauren into a cab for safety, Jon commandeers a motorbike and hunts down the killers, but then further attacks, coordinated from inside prison by a White Supremacist terrorist gang, take place around the city. Hindered as much as helped by his maverick reputation with the FBI, how will Jon stop the psychotic cop-killer?

While Jon’s fate was never really in doubt, this was most exciting when other characters were in danger. The plot relied rather too much on coincidence which felt a little lazy, but I really liked the ending and epilogue. Some sections are told from the baddies’ POV but even so they were rather caricaturishly evil.
Not all plot threads and character arcs were tied up, so I suspect some may be back, presumably for revenge. Jon’s amphetamine addiction is finally addressed, and hopefully he’s in for some happiness, before the inevitable next attack on his family...

My thanks to NetGalley and Amazon Publishing for the ARC which allowed me to give an honest review. Hard Shot is published on 12th December.

Hard Shot was another amazing installment in the Jon Reznick series following Jon as he searches for a shooter targeting the NYPD.

For the Fourth of July holiday Jon Reznick visits his daughter Lauren in New York City with plans to take in a baseball game. But before the game can start, gunmen open fire on the cops outside the stadium. Jon manages to track and kill two of the shooters but the last member of the group is still at large. Believing the gunman will kill again, Jon works with the FBI to track him down before more members of the NYPD are killed. But Jon's unorthodox tactics have landed him in hot water for potentially the last time and he'll need to work fast before he's taken off this case.

The plot in Hard Shot hits the ground running and doesn't let up until the very end. The book opens with Jon and Lauren making their way to Yankees Stadium on the Fourth. Before they can fully make it inside, two snipers begin shooting at the cops stationed outside causing mass panic. Jon manages to get Lauren to safety before he tracks the men down and stops them from hurting anyone else. From there, Jon meets up with the FBI and learns the pair were part of a Neo Nazi group with this shooting likely to be only the tip of the iceberg. The plot moves quickly from there and we see Jon as he follows up on several leads to try and find the missing third man. This book takes place over the course of one day so there's very little down time which I appreciated. The ending is action-packed with just the right amount of tension to keep you guessing. I enjoyed Lauren's role in how things were wrapped up and thought the ending was well done.

Jon is a great character to follow and this book was no exception. He's good at what he does and he has no qualms about doing the hard parts that no one else wants to do. His methods have caused him issues in the past and that definitely had some affect on how this book played out. The higher ups are worried about the way Jon does things which has them questioning their whole association with him. Even Meyerstein found herself questioning the way Jon breaks the rules and how her letting him get away with it for so long has changed how she sees herself and the job. Lauren has a bigger role in this book and I liked how she reacted to everything going on. After the ending, I'm interested to see where she goes from here and I imagine we'll be seeing more of her. We only got a small scene with Jon's hacker friend which was a shame as I enjoy the pair's friendship.

Overall Hard Shot was a fantastic read and I'm looking forward to picking up the next book in the series, Hard Target, soon.

YES! Finally another installment featuring Jon Reznick. I like Jon as a main character and it seems like things are starting to take its toll and I think this latest book we see him try and take a step back (well at the end at least). This book is a typical high octane and action packed book that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Jon attends a ball game with is daughter when attackers start to take out police officers. Jon being Jon means he cannot leave it and as such becomes embroiled in this latest attack on US soil. Only this time it seems the attackers are closer to home. At 248 pages it isn’t a particularly long read but certainly an entertaining one.

I really love the characters and am crossing my fingers that we get to see Jon make a few changes in his personal life in the next book. I could easily read these books over and over as they are fantastic and I admit I am a bit of a fan. I cannot wait to see what’s next for Jon and highly recommend this series.

In this seventh in the Jon Reznick series, Hard Shot (Thomas and Mercer 2019), Jon Reznick tries to take a brief vacation from work to take his daughter to a July 4th baseball game in New York City and ends up in the middle of a terrorist attack as a sniper picks off police outside of the ball park. Reznick bundles his daughter into a cab with instructions to return to their hotel and chases down the two snipers, killing both. After managing to convince the police that he wasn't involved, merely lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and smart enough to act quickly, he becomes part of a small FBI team that is tracking down the killers, how they knew what they shouldn't, and how to stop them.

I've read all of the Jon Reznick series. While this one seems a little slower than the frantic never-quit pace of the others, maybe more analytical of the process and thoughts of the characters, it is a good read. I like the hints at a love interest for Jon, something we haven't seen before. Overall, it is well worth the time in excitement and entertainment.

In this seventh installation of the Jon Reznick series, J.B. Turner keeps the intensity as high as in the past six books, but he also adds more layers to Reznick as he needs to fight bad guys that are highly trained and willing to do unthinkable stuff when the price is right.
As always, the pace of the story is breathtakingly high, the plot is not super surprising and some of the coincidences of the story are just not that credible. This ends up costing the fifth star, but fans of the Reznick series will not be disappointed. Newcomers to the series should not join in here, due to the numerous references to past events and recurring characters where the background is useful for the proper enjoyment of the book.

Initially, I was quite put off by Lauren's attitude. But then, she made amends eventually.
(Not a spoiler but) what Reznick did in the warehouse.....was truly a badass act.

Jon Reznick just wants his daughter to be safe. But she appears to take after her old man. In "Hard Shot," the seventh in J.B. Turner's high-octane series, a crew with ties to a domestic terrorist group has taken the fight to law enforcement and Reznick and his daughter find themselves in the midst of the action. Reznick immediately leaps into the fray when a group of killers cross his path. However, the threat remains, and Reznick is up for the task. Of course, he has his own tactics for ferreting out the source of the trouble and that doesn't sit all that well with the authorities. But that makes the novel. Turner does a fantastic job of weaving together a very contemporary mix of threats. And the storyline doesn't quit.

Always a request when I see books from J. B. Turner come up and never disappointed!

I love the fast pace of the books about the Jon Resnick character. This book was just as fast paced and filled with amazing characters. I love. The fact that Lauren, his daughter, is such a big part of this one.

Such a fast paced and full of action book is my favorite and this one was off the charts. One that is filled with an emotionally emergizing plot with a phenomenal ending that you gets you every time. This series is cemented as one of my favorites ever.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the 7th book in the series and all the action still continues. In this story, Jon is with his daughter Laureen waiting to enter Yankee Stadium for the 4th of July game. While waiting, two individuals have taken position atop the courthouse and have begun killing cops. As you might expect, chaos seems to prevail all over, but Jon is able to get Laureen in a cab along with another family. Once Laureen leaves, Jon spots the 2 individuals getting into a van and commandeers a motor cycle so that he can chase them. He was able to catch up with them and a gun battle began. Jon came out on top.

Deputy Director Myerstein was directed to report to NYC and take charge of the scene. Jon continued his pursuit of looking for evidence and was able to locate a lead that would lead them closer to finding the 3rd party who was responsible. Unfortunately, after receiving info from a brother of the 1st two killers, he met with an ex-NYV cop and gather more information. While questioning this party, a different sniper killed him, but Jon again was able to intercept the killer who had gone to the NY State Atty General's home to kill him. Jon was able to prevent this action when he got on the scene.

Another individual who was another brother of the 1st two killers had plans for more killings in NYC to occur during the night of the 4th of July celebration. This individual wound up killing two additional cops and wounding one other. In addition he was responsible for the killing of the NY Atty General. Once more, Jon wound up chasing this individual as well because of a certain situation.

To find out what the reasoning for all of the cop killings and the Atty General in addition to why Jon was doing the last chase, then you must read the book. You won't be disappointed.

This one was very interesting for a lot of reasons. I really like how close Jon and Lauren are, loved that they were spending time together at a baseball game. But of course with Jon being who he is things went a bit wonky and he jumped into help Jon Reznick style. It's funny to see how everyone reacts to him, either they love him or they think he is a loose cannon, one who causes more harm than good. I think it's a combo of both and both are needed.

Amid all the action going on, I liked Martha and Jon's inner musings. Martha at how Jon is more than a work collegue. I don't know that I see them as romantic partners, but they are sure friends and confidents.

I thought it interesting the role that Lauren had in things towards the end. Her actions and the talk that she had with Jon didn't surprise me in the least. You could see things moving that way for her.

As to the bad guys in this one...let's just say that they sucked and got exactly what they should have.

Book Review: Hard Shot (Jon Reznick #7) by J. B. Turner
(Published by Amazon Publishing UK and Thomas & Mercer)

"...Don't give me any nondisclosure agreement bullshit!"

That's Jon Reznick of Maine, former black ops assassin and working for the FBI on classified investigations. He gets the job done. He never was a guy for flowery language. Neither does he have much use for rules, which he often flouts. Especially when the stakes are high, as in when the life of his one and only precious daughter is on the line. Or when American freedom is in the balance. And that renegade attitude is what gets him in trouble, occasionally.

And this is where FBI Assistant Director Martha Meyerstein usually steps in. To chew him out. Or bail him out, if she's being nice about it.

What I find most enjoyable about the author's Jon Reznick series is the no-nonsense delivery of high-octane action flowing seamlessly from one scene to the next with nary a dull moment. Each story is character driven and relies on creativity with little use for political correctness. J.B. Turner keeps it real. Jon Reznick bleeds and gets hit. He's no superhero.

Lives are lost a day of vengeance, and New York City is in a panic.

It is the Fourth of July. Reznick and Lucy are at Yankee Stadium to celebrate Independence Day with tickets to America's favorite pastime.

Then all hell breaks loose. Shots are fired, cops are down and Reznick shifts into high gear on his feet and barrels into action. Lives are at stake and for the guy, there are no ifs, buts or ors to bat arond within his conscience.

A loose alliance of hoodlums cum drug mules and Mara Salvatrucha, or the so-called MS-13 are on a bloodthirsty hunt to avenge the death of one of their own in the hands of law enforcement.

And, it appears, treacherous elements from within law enforcement are on their side.

Reznick, Meyerstein and team must watch their backs and put an end to the massacre at the risk of their own lives.

I can see one small weakness in the tale: hoodlums cannot be trained snipers in a flash, particularly from long distance on a beach and even within NYC city blocks. No such thing as one shot, one kill with those O'Keefe lowlifes.

But, nothing diminished in entertainment value. Excellent light reading - on the intense side!

How have I missed the John Reznick series?! I must have been hiding under a rock, seriously, I loved this book and can’t believe there are others I’ve clearly missed!

This is a great book, really fast-paced with plenty of places where you hold your breath before the next turn!

Jon Reznick loves his daughter more than anything else and wants to protect her, though like a lot of children she doesn’t want to listen and follow his instructions! Jon, an FBI consultant just on the edge of the rules, likes to take risks to ensure his job is completed as quickly and efficiently as possible.

A really good plot that keeps your interest throughout and is full of action, a great page-turner that was really easy to read. I read this as a stand-alone title but will be reading more of JB Turner's books, especially those featuring Jon Reznick!

Rating: 4.5
Wow! Just wow. Reznick does seem to attract trouble but at least when he does, he can handle it. It reminded me of the tv series 24 with Kiefer Sutherland in how so much happened in a single day. I was not surprised by the new direction for Reznick’s daughter, Lauren, there were glimpses of it in earlier books.

This would have been a solid 5.0 rating instead of 4.5 except for so many loose ends left dangling. Perhaps they will be covered in the next one or maybe they were just forgotten. There were a LOT of them.

Like that his conscience is not totally lost. Reznick went through a range of emotions, well thoughts, self-reflection. He also shows some restraint, some. He didn’t kill as many people and thought more about those he did.

This review is for the Kindle Read and Listen edition. The narrator is fantastic.

Happy Reading!

So, after the 6th book, that I hated so much I couldn’t believe it, I wasn’t going to read another Jon Reznick story. BUT I gave in and read this one. It turned out pretty good but I’m real tired of his daughter. In book 6 I wrote this in my review, “To make matters worse he finds out, at 80% of the book, after his daughter is all better, that she is a student of Krav Maga, can shoot and carries a gun, all the while she’s a college student.” In this book she was nothing but a smart-ass. AND J.B. Turner keeps making Jon a cold-blooded killer, not that the gang-banger didn’t deserve it, but still, he was on the ground and unarmed, but Jon shot him in the head twice. I’m not sure I’ll read book 8 when it’s out. He’s making our hero not much of a hero. IMO.

No sex or romance and the F-bomb was used 118 times.

As to the narration: Jeffrey Kafer has a good reading voice and he’s getting much better at doing feminine voices.

This is another American FBI/CIA/NYPD etc. etc. story of the fierce, remarkably resilient and lucky Agent who risks his life and his family for "Truth and Justice and the American Way". It has the usual and very common twists and turns and I found this out after only listening to three or four chapters. I am also predicting the hero's daughter is at risk and most probably kidnapped, but ultimately saved by her dad in the end.
In my opinion, it is rubbish and probably written to attract some Hollywood director who will turn it into another gun-fire extravaganza which will earn J.B. TURNER plenty of cash.
This is another terrible example of someone putting pen to paper but not writing a story or a novel.
There was nothing here to interest me and could not recommend.

As usual this 7th book of the series never lacks for action. There is minute by minute action from beginning to end. It is the 4th of July and Jon is meeting his daughter to attend a Yankees game. Two snipers take aim at any police officers around Yankee Stadium, killing more than half a dozen. Jon, after getting daughter Lauren and others to a safe escape, takes off in pursuit of the snipers, a pair of Aryan Nation gang bangers. The action stays hot and heavy as the story unfolds revealing competing family loyalties and some big mistakes involving government agencies.

This book is hard to put down once you begin reading. If you like action thrillers, this is for you.

I have got to know Jon Reznick very well through this book series, he is the main character.. he plays by his own rules as a consultant to the FBI. But of course he gets results, even if it’s not the most orthodox way. He’s a hard but lovable rogue, who lost his wife in 911, but has a daughter of whom he is very protective. She is now grown up in this book, and very much has a mind of her own. Which sometimes gets her into trouble.. Although these books are centered around FBI, CIA, and other authorities. Each book is different, and genuinely makes my heart race. I think I have found my new favourite author these books. Keep me reading much later than I should..

I can't believe Jon after being involved in a shooting incident just shoves his daughter into a cab and goes after the culprits and shoots them then goes to interview a subject even though he'd not heard from his Daughter as to if she got back to her hotel safely !!Think he should have made sure his Daughter was safe before going to interview a subject !!He seems to be the only person of dealing with culprits even though the FBI are involved !!sorry this book was all wrong for me being hero before his child !!

Reznik's daughter is now old enough to be involved in what her father does.
Like many authors, Turner's version of a strong, independent woman is one who is either foolish or down-right stupid. There is an active sniper in NYC, and Reznik's daughter refuses to go home or even to get out of the street because by golly! "Nobody's going to tell me what to do!" Dumb.
I also found it quite amazing how many times in a city the size of NYC the villain and the daughter wind up standing next to each other.

I used to be in all in on Team Reznick but as the books progress, he is less of a "good guy," and more and more just a thug and a vigilante. The Assistant Director no longer cares about the morality or value of decisions, she just let's her school girl crush on Jon cloud her judgement. If someone that senior at the FBI no longer cares about rules or ethics, it's just painful to read. Throw in the bratty daughter who was shot at in the morning and had to party in the evening to create the statistically impossible ending.

It's time for Jon to start questioning whether he needs to change the way he acts while dealing with a serious situation in New York.
Relationship between Jon and Martha Meyerstein carry on evolving while Jon's daughter, Lauren, turned into a more active rol in the series.
Once again, bad guys come from the Aryan Brotherhood and entire situation seems to be tainted because of some dirty hidden cover support from other Agencies with bad guys.. but this side of the story is not unrolled in the book.

Spellbinding Thriller of a ride!

I have read all of the Jon Reznick books in order, and they keep getting better! This one did not disappoint! Blending his daughter into the mix in a prominent role brought a tender and protective side to Jon as a father, in addition to his all out thought provoking action side each book has always brought to his character. Read it! It is quite the ride!

Never disappoints!

Highly recommended for all fans of espionage, action, special forces type stories - always exciting and difficult to put down - character development is spot on and I really feel a sense of Reznick as a really good guy despite his tendency to shoot first and then not be able to ask the question! Read the first 6 books in 4 weeks and now the 7th having had a break from reading - going to start on number 8 right away!

Seven & Still Going

The seventh in the series sees Reznick's daughter Lauren becoming more involved. The story has a topical thread to it, (summer 2020), and is as usual fast paced.
As I have said in previous reviews these stories can be read as stand alone books but are better read in order so as to get the story thread and character background.
Up there with Jack Reached and Ben Hope.
