I purchased this book because I was familiar with John Barry's hits and the excellent The Beyondness of Things. This book succeeds in covering his musical career and achievements .The only down side is that after the early sixties it breaks his work down into categories such as film/TV and musicals .Thus you don't get a sequential story throughout his career and it does at certain times hit the format of he did this and it was... and by the way it came out on CD. That said some of the description did lead me to order several John Barry CD's I had not heard of before .
The book barely touches his personal life and you do not get a full sense of the man .
That said a the book shines a light on the full extent of a great composers output , which can't be bad thing

I love John Barry's music and I think I know every bar of it. This is a book I think I'll look at often - every now and then..
