I wonder how many points they will get after this fight? (one phrase review lol, it seems i have always been interested in RPG elements used in literature, now that i have found LITRPG, i am living the dream, not entirely, but i am sure i ll eventually find a series i like)
It's just one huge fight between the whole crew of Gantz warriors and this big fucking demon looking bastard. It's insane, fast paced, people dying quickly, some major characters being killed, and badass fights. There's not much else to this volume then one big fight but holy hell is it so entertaining.
Good: The fight is amazing. Big in scope, brutal in deaths, this is what we've been waiting for.
Bad: Didn't like the blur effects overuse at times.
This is insane. I read it very quickly now I need to jump into 19!
Kurono Kei, nuestro líder, decide enfrentarse a él.

Synopsis: Gantz tells the story of a teenager named Kei Kurono, among others, who die but find themselves brought back in perfectly healthy bodies and forced to participate in a "game" where they must hunt down and kill aliens.
Review: I almost gave up on Gantz several times, but now that I've read it all the way to the end, I'm glad I stuck with it. The beginning is dragged down by repulsive and unlikable characters, a messily paced story, unnecessary sexualization and gratuitous violence without much substance. As it progresses, however, the character development becomes pretty incredible and the growing threat of the enemies feels truly well done. Once the real enemies are revealed, it's mind-blowing how the series had been secretly foreshadowing their arrival from the very beginning.
Although it takes a while, some really good characters are introduced later on in the series and they're the ones that made me want to read to the end. Some characters that were absolutely unbearable in the beginning became polar opposites of their original selves and even made me sympathize with them quite a bit. The protagonist Kei for example, I hated him with all my heart for the first third of the series, he became progressively more likable in the second third of the story and then he evolved into one of the most memorable, unlikely heroes I've ever seen in this storytelling medium throughout the final third. The last third of the series is unbelievably terrifying with some of the most gruesome and disgusting battle/survival scenes in the history of fiction. It's much more bearable and intense in the final third because this time the violence and horror is happening to people we actually care about instead of a bunch of unlikable nobodies.
The final third of the story is what made me feel so glad that I didn't give up on this series. It had me on the edge of my seat more times than I can recall. There are a ton of chapters but they're very short and full of action which makes the series a quick read despite having almost 400 chapters. So even though the first third of the story was kinda bad in my opinion, it doesn't last for long and the payoff that comes after it's over truly impressed me. It's a flawed, thrilling and horrifying action series that takes a while to kick off. When it finally kicks off, however, it kicks off extremely hard.
Unfortunate circumstances have led me to read Gantz/18 prior to Gantz/17. Nevertheless, the basic story is that a group of recently deceased people are transported to a room with a large black ball called Gantz. The ball gives messages and sends the people to fight aliens, vampires, etc. in a point scoring scenario where they can live if they get 100 points before being killed. The main character, Kei Kurono was a teenage boy. In this episode, Kei has learned that if he gets 100 points in the Gantz contest, he can restore his first love to life. And so it goes...
The oni fights are all pretty intense but that the action scenes themselves are not depicted very well. It's hard to tell what's actually happening. People just die, things get destroyed, and basically it's that massacre with Izumi all over again, except this time it's an alien doing it. Same feeling as back then - it's just crazily over-the-top. And again, seemingly zero reaction from the Japanese authorities beyond a couple of cops. So just as before, suspension of disbelief required to enjoy the action. And a twist happens at the end - witnesses!
Kaze fought the oni alien that can transformed into a stone. Muscle vs stone! Kaze managed to win the fight. Later, the final boss that entitled as the strongest alien in Gantz's history faced off the remaining member of the Gantz; Kurono, Izumi, Reika, Kaze, Sakata, Inaba and the old man. All of them were losing. In the hopeless moment, Kurono and Izumi tried a schronize attack on the alien.

Pretty sure these Blue books (and volume 10) is the golden period of Gantz. I can't see a string of books getting better than this. The vampire arc is just incredible.
The fluidity and cinematic feel of this man’s art is incredible…crazy to say that I genuinely care about these characters now when I never really thought I would at the start 💀
