I liked many things about this book that teaches you how to improve employee performance and deal with issues related to performance.

I liked the structured approach the author has taken. Once you've gone through the book, you can go back to any section for a deeper reading.

The objective of the book is stated clearly, followed by a review of the latest trends at the workplace. I'd say the book is a comprehensive guide on how managers can work on their performance management skills because it takes into account every tiny detail. It also offers ways to handle tough situations w.r.t poor performance or difficult employees.

It was good to see that the author placed emphasis on planning, preparation, honesty, and empathy.

The language is simple and easily understandable. The content is not just useful, but also interesting.

The book is packed with relevant findings from research studies and company initiatives. I noticed plenty of case studies and examples, too.

I like it when a book is backed by research data because it makes the statements/theory more solid. Certain important points are highlighted as box quotes, which improves the look of the chapter. The author also makes liberal use of bullet points.

I also liked the summary at the end of each chapter. It was a good way for me to refresh my memory about the essential points of that section.

It can feel like you're reading a business textbook, especially when definitions are given. However, the tips offered are practical and actionable.

Finally, I feel the formatting of the book needs improvement to make it easier on the eye. More use of white space would make a big difference to the book's readability.

The appendix has several documents, among which I thought that the checklist for managers to self-audit their performance management and the anticipated employee questions were most useful.

(I received an ARC from Reedsy Discovery in exchange for an honest review.)
