In a world without power, do you have what it takes to start again?
Three months have passed since a disastrous EMP left the nation without power, with only the strongest and most prepared still standing.
Jack is a survivor. After a tragic showdown, he is keen to step back and allow others to take the spotlight, scarred by painful memories of the casualties under his leadership.
But when a terrifying and charismatic new foe arrives on their doorstep, Jack and his friends are lured into a conflict that threatens to be even more devastating than the last. Can Jack step up and protect those he cares about when it matters most?
And in a world of muddy morals, who can be trusted?
Surviving the Blackout is the fourth book in the Surviving the EMP post apocalyptic series, and a new chapter in the overall story. If you enjoy stories of ordinary people thrown into devastating new circumstances, you'll love Surviving the Blackout.
I enjoyed the first two books in the series, slogged through the third hoping it would get better but I can’t even finish this series even to find out what happens to the characters I enjoyed. It went from a plausible storyline to an extremely violent improbable one. Cults and beheadings are not my thing. If they are yours maybe you’ll enjoy where this series is going. A real disappointment because there were a few characters I actually liked and I would have read a bad story just to see how they turned out. This wasn’t just bad, it was disturbingly violent and I can’t finish reading it.
3.8- Stars-SPOILERS I really love the beginning! Jack has been through a lot. It seems like they’ve found a nice community to settle in. I feel for Bella. The details are quite intense! Jack appears to be stepping up as a leader again. I’m definitely not a fan of Matthew. Wow, the girl is SUSAN! I was curious about her fate. It was heartbreaking to hear what happened to Tommy. Watching Emma grow has been a pleasure; she’s incredibly smart and observant for her age. I really hope she can avoid turning to darkness during her challenges. This mini-series is fantastic! Aside from no zombies, it gives me strong vibes of The Walking Dead. Jack reminds me a lot of Rick, as both have faced significant losses. I’m eager to see what unfolds with Pete, Wayne’s stepdad, and Hazel’s husband. I hope the next book sheds some light on that!
I'm sorry. But the moment I found out about Tommy, that was it for me. I was struggling on the 3rd book, which I didn't finish. I was hoping to have a good story for Susanne and Tommy, so I still purchased the 4th book. But Tommy died. Too many mentions of kids dying, I understand it's the reality in this world, but I can't take it, and I'm not really invested in the story anymore. This is one of my favorite genres, but this series is not for me. I'm tapping out.
Book 4 was certainly an improvement over Book 3. The series as a whole has lacked continuity and the author is seemingly trying to bring back a couple important people from Book 1 in order to finish the series off in Book 5.
Not as good as the previous books in the series. Disappointed that the story picks up 3 months after the last book. The last book ended with Jack and crew left the farm and a group started following them that gave the impression they might be dangerous. This book does not address that.
This is a review of books 1-4. A different look at the apocalypse. Book 1 started strong, also book 2. Bookn3 was my least favorite, but book 4 was a wild ride. Can't wait for the final chapter. A leader who doesn't want the job. A lot of bad decisions by a lot of the characters. A lot of deception. Who can you trust? Highly recommended.
