Unchained Hearts

Captive Wolf

Rate this book
She’s my captive until sunrise. I have one night with her to make her mine.

Lucy

It’s the longest night of the year. Every wolf in my pack will spend the night running in the woods. Except me.

I should have had my first shift years ago, but it turns out, I’m a dud. Daughter of the pack alpha, they expected great things from me. Instead, I’m a disappointment. While the pack runs, I prepare to make a run for it. It’s time to start over somewhere new where nobody knows that wolf shifters are real.

Except there’s one tiny problem. I crossed into another pack’s territory and now I’m being held captive by their alpha and he’s pissed he’s on guard duty instead of running with his pack. I should be terrified of him, but with each passing second I find myself more and more drawn to his scent.

Carter

Her scent caught me from a mile away, making me hungry for her before I even saw her. But when I found her, she turned out to be the one woman I shouldn’t have anything to do with.

Our packs have been at odds for generations and while I lead my pack, her father leads the one pack that would kill me on sight. I should take her out but all I can think about is claiming her as mine forever.

It's always hard to write a short story and to still make it work. Especially if you have to introduce some mythology, a couple and also have a little plot that needs attention. But Calder really managed to write a pretty good novella and I've been reading the entire story with a huge smile on my face on my way to work.

Calder throws us right into the story. She doesn't need long info dumps to explain everything, but she lets the characters introduce whatever we need when we need it. And even though we only get little time to really get to know Carter and Lucy it's not that hard to start caring about them and to see their chemistry and why they're good for each other.

I also love how, even though we only see very little of it, we get a clear sense of the world this is set in. This book is mainly about the werewolves and includes some of their lore and rules, but we're also already introduced briefly to other supernatural creatures, which opens up a whole lot of possibilities for more short stories.

And the little plot is also quite edearing. I love how Lucy, who's been very clearly growing up without much love and warmth and without anyone to encourage her to follow her dreams, learns that there are people out there caring about and for her. It's maybe a little cheesy and due to the whole mate thing it's also very instant love, but it works. I shipped it and I was very happy for both Lucy and Carter that they did end up finding each other.

Carter got a text from Catalina, the vampire who owns most of the bars in town, warning him that out of town wolves caused some trouble. With the Solstice here and their magic at its height, he would have to keep a careful eye on his pack and any trespassers. He heads to The Dizzy Dragon for a quick drink before the night gets busy, and he finds a gorgeous woman that makes his wolf want to come out and protect her. He buys her a drink and then she leaves.

Lucy is a half-breed, her mom human, and she can’t shift, getting the human side of her genetics. When her dad, the alpha, died she was passed off to her godfather, Lucas. She gets restless at full moons and they hoped it was her wolf, but nothing ever happened. She lives in the garage apartment of the house she will inherit at 25 as she saves for grad school. But tonight, Lucas tells her Jack, an arrogant wolf known to abuse women, has been asking about her. He wants her for a mate and Lucas agrees – because Lucas’ girlfriend is moving in with him and they want the extra space! So when the wolves run tonight, she intends to leave for the city, coming back in 3 years to claim her inheritance.

Lucy packs her car and heads out when it suddenly sputters and smokes. She saw that someone had deliberately messed with her transmission so it would die after a short drive. She starts walking back the way she came to get the tools and parts she needs. But a white van stops. With her senses warning her, she refuses to get in the van and a man grabs her from behind. It turns out they are vampires! She gets away from them, but the guy chases her down and punches her hard in the face. Pretending to cooperate now, she takes a few steps, then gets loose again and runs. The vampires come after her with the van and she runs toward a campfire in the distance. Relieved that she sees the guy from the bar, she tells them she is being chased and the van pulls up – Hunters! Carter tells her to stay back, knowing he will protect her no matter what! He feels a strong pull toward her, and Carter and his pack will fight the hunters to keep her safe. Is Lucy ready to learn the secrets she hadn’t known? Is she ready to explore her reaction to Carter?

I enjoyed this story. It starts at a good pace, then the reader is made aware of Lucy’s undeserved fate and our concern is for her. The pace then quickens as she faces down the Hunters! The story line is good and the characters are well-described. Add in the tension and you will be hooked on this book!

Lucy is trying to deal with her godfather until she gets her inheritance from her father. She finds out the Lucas wants her to move out her house and get together with another wolf. He is trying to take everything from her. She really can't fight against it as she has never shifted. Lucy decides to leave to find work in the city and go to school. When Lucy is attacked, she fights and runs for her life. She sees a group of people in the woods. The man she met in the bar is there.
Carter can't believe he sees the woman he saw in the bar run towards them. She is asking for help. He feels the pull towards her. Carter and his pack fight against the hunters to keep her safe. The pull to this woman is unbelievable, he knows he will do anything to keep her safe.
A lot of things change for Lucy on this night, she will learn about her father, his legacy and connection with Carter. Is Lucy stronger enough to fight for what is hers and will she allow herself that connection with Carter

This book moves so quickly, it is over before you are ready for it to end. You will enjoy reading this and wanting more from these characters.

Lucy runs from an arranged mating gets chased by Hunters and meets her mate.

Lucy Crow is half human and half wolf shifter who has never been able to shift. Her father was Alpha of the pack and that is her by right of her blood line. But she is unable to claim it as long as she can not shift. When she is pressured to accept another wolf in her pack as mate she refuses and is kicked out of her home by her god father who has taken over the pack since her fathers death. When she leaves home to keep from being forced into a mating she does not want she is captured by hunters only to escape and run into the arms of Carter the Alpha of a neighboring pack. This is a great shifter romance with a lot of action. I can not wait for more from this author.

This is a great story. I couldn't put it down. I swept into the action from the first page.

Lucy has lost the only home that she has ever known. She doesn't agree with her godfather's plans for her. Her car breaks down and as she is walking to the next town, she is almost kidnapped. She runs into the forest where she runs into another wolf pack. She has never been able to shift before. Carter is the alpha of the pack that she runs into. They spring into action and help her out. Will Carter and Lucy discover that they mean more to each other?

A hour read. We have a little action and romance. Lucy is a half human and wolf shifter, but has never been able to shift. Carter has his own pack and its solstice. They meet in a bar, but not much happens. Lucy finds out that her Godfather wants her out of her home and to marry someone she does not like. She takes off and than all hits the fan. Can she get away? What happens when she runs into Carter? Can he help her? What will happen with her pack when she finds out the truth? What will her Godfather do? What will Carter do? Two different packs. Two different ways to run them.

Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the characters are interesting. Once I started I could not put the book down from start to finish you just could not get enough left you wanting more twists and turns hot and steamy like a rollercoaster ride of emotions that makes you want more of Lucy and Carter. Lucy lost her father when she was young and Carter is an alpha and has had alot of problems.

A very short paranormal story... This would probably score a 3.5 in my books. In 58 pages the author has been able to completely change her main character's circumstances, and provide not one but two epilogue depicting two important events to add to the HEA. There is a bit of action at the beginning and obviously you get your HEA but I guess realistically you wouldn't get much more in 50 pages. Some humour in it would have put it in line with some of Zoey Indianas work but generally a decent short read. I just felt a bit disappointed there wasn't much more excitement in the story.

I love short stories that get to the heart of the matter while still keeping you on your toes. I was hooked with the story line and the characters. Two wolf shifters that should not be together, can't help but be pulled together. It's fun reading the world created here and the struggles to be together by two rival packs.

Lucy is half wolf half human who can’t shift her godfather wants her to marry a man who is known for his abuse so when the pack goes out for their run she escapes but while running she is nearly captured by hunters but she manages to get away when she runs into Carter the alpha of a different wolf pack and Lucy knows that he is her mate. I’m not going to get too much into this story because it is a short story but it’s a fantastic one and I highly recommend this book it’s well worth the read.

Decent short story with plenty of details and fleshed out characters. The book has everything from paranormal shifters, romance and quick suspense. For a quick read without much world building, I would recommend Captive Wolf.

Then fate happens and she meets her mate Carter. Lucy knows that she must fight for what she wants and Carter is at the top of her list.

Lucy has no family left and her godfather has been taking care of her but now he wants her out of the way. Lucy had been living at home to save money for college. Lucy's dad was alpha of the pack till he died so she's part shifter but never been able to shift. All that's about to change. I highly recommend this book.

Just, bad. The plot, the characters, the world-building, the writing style. Sometimes you find gold with these BookFunnel giveaways. Sometimes it’s pretty obvious why the book is free.

Wolf shifter book. Daughter of an alpha wolf and a human can’t shift until she find her mate, the alpha of a neighboring pack.

This book was the perfect short read! It had shifters, Insta love, action, and a good story line! I loved how the FMC was saved by her mate, yet she was still strong and was willing to fight for what she wanted. And let’s just say the chemistry is hot!!!! I would highly recommend this book!
