Without having used any other character writing workbooks, it's difficult to fairly assess whether this book is good or not. I think like any language learning book it is only going to be as useful as the learner makes it. But the authors seemed to do well in explaining the history of Chinese characters and how the radicals work and all of that. I enjoyed the brief introduction to each character that was covered, though it often left me wanting to know more. In summary, I am not sure whether this should be five stars or perhaps less, but I think it's a good start for any "dummies" who are just starting to learn Chinese.
Beside showing the stroke order, the book also mentions about the historical development of Chinese writing system and writing styles. Good for beginner who are new to writing Chinese characters.
All characters to practice are pretty simple. I wish it had at least a few really complicating characters to challenge the reader.
