A Medical Mystery with “Swap Meet” Suspicions

👩🏼‍⚕️ As a physician myself, I especially enjoyed the presence and mention of familiar medical terms like RhoGAM injections, ACOG Guidelines, scalp electrodes, and epidurals.... Suction bulbs, cord clamps, ultrasound images, bilirubin levels, hospital rounds, variable decels, tubal ligations, and meconium. Readers unfamiliar with pregnancy-related procedures might struggle with some of the clinical details, but I appreciated the genuine authenticity of their involvement.

Amniotic fluid, maternal fetal medicine specialists, Apgar scores, and Labor & Delivery procedures fill many of the clinical scenes. Readers will also learn about the quirky nuances of fetal circulation and get a refresher course in blood types. Characters attend church functions, bake casseroles, navigate family drama, and tackle phases of bereavement with eventual emotional closure.

Medical malpractice claims regarding “missed diagnoses” present their own set of nail-biting, anxious energy, but the obstetrical field of medicine will always be one to dabble in some unavoidably risky outcomes. The physician at the heart of the story handles the legal inquisition with notable aplomb.

I did encounter a few grammatical and typographical errors throughout, but the storytelling and pacing is solid. This plot gives a whole new weight and meaning to the term “swap meet”—some lives will be forever changed, but there are also plenty of new beginnings to celebrate too!🤰🏼🤱🏼

Awful

This was a painful book to read. See spot, go spot, go. Elementary writing. Had to skim through it after a while because it was a total waste of time. Sorry, I am amazed
that this book was published.
