When I read the first book in this series I found it to be one of these maybe books. That is, it was okay, it was enjoyable to read but it did not come over as a hey this is good book either. This book turned out to be about the same. Okay but not wow great.

Not surprisingly this book follows more or less directly from the first book. Amanda has learned to master he powers more or less comfortably and the book starts right away with Amanda and her new friends kicking some ass in an encounter with a few bad guys.

Then the main arc of the story in this book starts when Amanda moves back to New York to confront Lucian the Dark Magi. Overall the story is okay and I do like Amanda. I didn’t like that Amanda was frequently outclassed by Lucian & Co though yet she somehow managed to survive and bump back. I felt this was somewhat uninspired story writing. If Amanda was not ready for the big league the author should just have waited a book and made this book more about Amanda’s advancement.

My book reading friend Bookstoge predicted that, in this book God’s would be involved and Amanda would magically (pun intended) power up to fight them or she would have a torrid love affair only to discover that he was a bad guy. My prediction was that the love torrid love affair would not come until book 4 or 5 after she had been arrested by the FBI. Obviously we have both been reading too much crappy urban fantasy.

Well, I’m happy that Bookstoge’s prediction did not come true. Well, there was a small love affair but nothing too distracting and the God’s stayed out of it. Whether there will be a torrid love affair in the future is still up in the air but right now I think being arrested by the FBI is also out (I hope). Being captured by The Inquisition however is another matter. I kid you not and you will have to read the books to see what I mean. No spoilers.

Anyway, this second book is read worthy but not more which means the series will stay off the to-dump shelf for now.

Oh, by the way, the vehicle manufacturer is Hägglunds, not Hagglunds. I know. I drove a Hägglunds APC (among other things) when in the Swedish army.

Worse than the first book?

Not really. In terms of writing style and the grammar it was truly equally as bad and also kept my attention. I believe it is the first author of so little writing ability that I have come across, at least in this particular series. I have read one or two of his other series and they were actually quite good. I am guessing that this may have been one of his first efforts. I have a lot of sympathy for self published Ebook writers, I don't hold them to the same standard as well known published authors. Most of them seem like regular people with jobs who love to write and hope for the big break ( or as Dobbel would write, 'brake').

Another fast paced adventure with mysteries to solve

While Amanda does not want to kill anyone, she unfortunately comes face to face with some of the evil deeds perpetuated by the Nomads. She still makes an effort to limit lethal force, though she comes to accept when she must take out a truly evil person as they will not stop. But, it is still not something she relishes and will hopefully not allow such deeds to twist her. Especially as she is like a rockslide, starting out small in her efforts for justice and slowly, then more quickly, building up to be a force of nature. Looking forward to book 4!

Great 2nd book

Having come across the author as part of anthology box sets so I decided to try the first book.
The issues raised in book 1 were very compelling so hence book 2 to double check that yes this is a good series.
I'm glad to report that this is most definitely the case and the characters contained herein are indeed brilliant ,especially the magic infused Amanda a black widow type superhero in the magic world if its real?.
Either way im now a humble fan and will follow the rest of this series with great interest

Good continuation of the series. The first book had me a bit confused with all the different characters and factions, but it is much clearer in this book.

Amanda, Liz and Gentle Water have moved to New York despite being warned not to as the Nomads in charge there kill all Arcadians who take up residence. Except for Yoh, who has managed to hide from Lucian for a number of years.

Plenty of action in this book, new friends made as well as enemies, an old friend asks for help which turns bad.

Its good but.....

Story line and plot are actually very good. Its a different look at magick that is a nice change of pace. However, the proofreader sucks ass big time. The grammatical errors and poor word choices (such as "floor" instead of "ground" and "span" instead of "spun") detract from the flow of the story. Hire a better proofreader for future installments and I'll raise to 5 stars.

New York, New York

Amanda is home sick for New York and moves back despite the threat the Nomad magi, Lucian presents. She would like to stay under the radar but trouble comes to find her. Lucian chases her down and threatens her but does not kill her as usually would. Why is that? She gains confidence and friends, however, she also sees evil that she can't ignore. I like the action, humor and puzzlement over romance. I look forward to the next book.

Very Enjoyable

Another very enjoyable read with a very fun set of characters, and a great main character who I think might have a few repressed desires LOL. One thing I miss from the first book are the drawings that were littered throughout. Looking forward to booking number three.

New York!

The little tidbits at each chapter both help fill in details and also add to the confusing intrigue representative of Amanda’s mind as she continues learning about the hidden world of magic. There are some minor errors missed in proofreading, but not so bad as to interrupt the story. I’m enjoying the series and look forward to Magi Omen.

Summary: I'm not a great fan of urban fantasy, but I quite enjoyed this little romp. It doesn't take itself too seriously and their is obviously a bigger story unravelling,, but this is a sort of coming of age start of a series

Plotline: Not too sophisticated, but moves forward nicely

Premise: Urban fantasy, so I'm not a big fan

Writing: Engaging, light

Ending: Yep

Pace: Never a dull moment!

Magi Rising (The Magi Saga, #2), my fifteenth read from author Andrew Dobell and the second book of the re-written Magi Saga. The action really takes off in this well-written and entertaining read. I look forward to reading more in this series. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Amanda’s adventures and her growth as a powerful Magi begins to unfold

I’m working my way through Amanda’s early adventures after her character appeared in Michael Anderle’s Kurtherian series. So as she’s featured in some upcoming Andersen books, I had to get her backstory. It does appear that the first few two books in the series, although interesting enough, needed a bit more editing work. The errors were often and distracting enough to the storyline that I had to take a couple of stars off.

I AM looking forward to reading the other books in hopes that editing is refined the further along I get.

Overall, the premise that magic is energy that can be tapped into by another species(?) instead of relying on ritualistic/religious origins is fascinating. Amanda’s character is blossoming into a leader and there are enough threads referencing a larger plot to move this new alternate universe along at a good pace.

Great Second Book

Amanda follows her dream to return to New York. What follows is full of action, magic and some self-doubt and some self-realization. It is really well written and kept me turning the pages. I will be buying the next book.
