I initially passed on Words Covered In Salt because I’m not always into reading about relationships/dating experience in poetry form, but as I kept seeing it around, I just really loved the cover and title, so I decided to go ahead and read it anyway. I’m so glad that I did because I completely loved Words Covered In Salt! I flew through it, it gave me the feels, and I made sure to highlight some of my favorite poems. One thing that I loved about Words Covered In Salt was that it reminded me of Olivia Rodrigio’s SOUR a little bit, they have a somewhat similar vibe and I couldn’t get enough of that! It was just an awesome reading experience and I know that when I think of this collection, it’ll be with fondness.
Words Covered In Salt is a nice book of poems. I felt like I was reading a poetic journal of Caitlin Platt's life. I would recommend these poems to someone who needs reassurance to leave a toxic relationship. Platt gives a lot of encouragement to choose yourself when you are in a toxic relationship and not strong enough to leave. Her words are inspirational and motivating.
I think this poet has a lot of potential and but overall it could have used some additional editing. Changes in line breaks/punctuation/capitalization really could have helped the flow in several pieces and really polished things for better impact. I look forward to future work to see how they develop.
Absolutely truthful facts. I was broken for so long and it has taken me over a decade to be completely open with my heart with my significant other because of the one that broke me down until I was laying in a hospital bed wanting to die. If you are in a bad relationship please please reach out, keep fighting. You will be you one day again.
A few poems really spoke to me. Others... Simply were. There was nothing overly interesting about this collection but also nothing so poorly executed that I wouldn't give it a reread... Someday.
My poem reading experience was kinda ruined by all of the typos and "fuck"s. Please edit. Please keep writing. Please get better. You're a promising poet.
