I'm getting hooked on Eleanor Merry's take on zombies. This was the cutest zombie tale ever! I don't have children, but the whole aspect of having a 'zombie mom' pulled on my heartstrings. And trust me, most people accuse me of not having a heart, so that's not an easy thing to do. Anyways, I've read this and the Dead Aware Vagrant Youth novella. The execution is great with how the author has kept me interested. Now, I'm curious as to how the author will follow through with why some zombies can talk and some can't. I'm sure she will do it in a creative way

After finishing Eleanor Merry’s “Dead Aware,” I immediately jumped on this exclusive short story in the Dead Aware universe.
We meet an infected female who wakes up in a park bathroom and figures out how to utilize the building as a place to stay once a few days pass by and her motor skills progress. An uninfected child named Ava crosses the female zombie’s path and bond is created between the two once Ava realizes she’s not like the other zombies. Ava names her “Angela” and tells her of the FIRE pandemic that took over the world. The little girl is only nine but is trustworthy of Angela and they decide to stick together. Angela protects her and they end up heading toward Ava’s family cabin when they meet a group of people similar to them.
The two characters are a great combination and shows the missing mother figure Ava never had. I appreciated the nurturing and protective aspect Angela had over Ava when exploring and encountering others. Although Angela slowly retains motor skills and comprehension, I feel her speech / words were a leap from her learning “hello” to almost full sentences too quick considering it took days for her to figure out a door. Ava also did not about “crazy” people / zombies until she left her home but knew a lot about the virus after they left to find food so that made it a little difficult to follow her escape for food. There are some aspects of Ava that are not what a nine year old would do, watch or say based on maturity (and experience with my own daughter) but the right intention for a “young child” was there for her character. Tying the group that traveled in the rails with Max was an awesome touch! The idea that they grew into something bigger and better was refreshing considering the pandemic.
I look forward to the next novels and stories within the Dead Aware world!

I never thought I’d “Aw” over a zombie story but it couldn’t be helped. This is the sweetest story ever.

Okay-this short was not what I expected. I went into it thinking I'd get some funky, amusing, gory zombie story, and what I got was a tightly written and surprisingly moving story of a family. Sometimes big things do come in small packages!

I never thought I'd find myself saying this about a Zombie story, but what a heart warming little novella this turned out to be.
Little Ava stole my heart, she's such a brave little thing. I loved Angela, her protective behaviour regarding Ava was adorable. She didn't understand much about herself but her instinct to protect a child came naturally.
Ava and Angela formed a strong bond with each other, it was really sweet.
I've really found myself engrossed in The Dead Aware world, This Author has created a unique and imaginative spin on a Zombie Apocalypse.
The characters are all very intriguing both human and Zombie, I find myself fascinated and wanting to know more about them.
I'm looking forward to more from The Dead Aware World.

Zombie Mom is a very cute tale. Ava is a little girl who comes across a zombie who doesn't try to eat her. They decide to go it together. Ava teaches Angela, the zombie, well actually reactivates her mind so she can somewhat talk. As the tale goes on the make some more discoveries. I really enjoyed how the author reminded us that children tend to be less biased and just are either you're nice or you're not instead of well you look like this so you are automatically bad. Written with enough so you can understand how each of the characters feel even the minor ones they come across.

Never read anything from the Zombie’s point of view before, which made it a very highly interesting read. I liked how the Author kept the person still zombie-like, just more human than the mindless, flesh-eating ones.
The story did its job of making me want to know more about this world built by the Author. Looking forward to reading more.

As far as short stories go this ones pretty good. I enjoyed the idea that this little girl found love and affection from a zombie and that the zombie found her humanity because of the girl.
