The Crime Beat, Episode 2: Washington, D.C. At the rooftop bar of the famed Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C., a former Vice President is assassinated. Across the Potomac River, a mysterious sniper leaves a fifty caliber rifle on the bed of his hotel room, then disappears.
Crime reporter Jane Cole and NYPD cop Robert Warren have clues no one else has. But as they arrive in D.C. to investigate, they're hit with a series of coverups and misdirections. And as they close in on the killer, they realize that they, too, are being tracked.

The Crime Beat is a nine-episode novella series, designed to be read in orderandin its entirety. Although each episode tells a complete portion of the story, the nine novellas—read together—weave one unforgettable tale.
Once a journalist in New York, A.C. Fuller now writes stories at the intersection of media, politics, and technology. Before he began writing full time, he was an adjunct professor of journalism at NYU and an English teacher at Northwest Indian College.
He lives with his wife, two children, and two dogs near Seattle. For a free copy of one of A.C.'s books, check out: http://www.acfuller.com/readerclub/
The Crime Beat, Washington DC, picks up exactly where the New York story ends. I am seeing you will want to read the series in order and the entire series may be more like one really long book broken into smaller books.
Jane and Rob track down more clues but also have attracted attention from those doing the killings. They are being followed and tracked now, maybe by more than one group. Things are dicey. They continue to be first to the information but here they do not catch a killer. Believing the next event will be in Miami, they head there.
Each episode is relatively short, and they continue to grow in information, suspense and action. I keep wondering who they can trust because the list seems very short. Politics, cops, and news media all seem to have corruption.
Narration: I've enjoyed this narrator previously on a police procedural series and this is a similar genre. Her male and female voices were comfortably appropriate. I enjoyed listening at my usual 1.5x speed.
like his writing, or else would not read some of them, since not really one of my preferred genres, but reading him for ages, favorite being the ameritocracy series, crime beat is newest series out, this is #2 of series.
These novellas are perfect for those who don't have a lot of time for actual reading (I mostly listen to audiobooks these days). Each episode is a complete story by itself but they follow on from each other so really need to be read in order. The first introduced the main characters who continue with their investigation in this second book. While there is some action and mystery I didn't feel there was the same connection between Jane & Rob as there was in the first, but maybe that's just me.
Washington, D. C. picks up right where book #1 ended. I have the feeling that each book will end where the next begins, therefore needing to read each book in order. We found out about the two main characters in the first book, I didn't feel like we really learned much more about them in this book, nor anything very interesting to hold my interest! I want to read Miami, but if there is no more to grab my interest, I don't see myself reading (and paying) six more books to find out how it ends.
I chose both books 1 and 2 thru bookbub and enjoyed both but they are short and end abruptly. I now see that there are three sets-books 1-3, 4-6 and 7-9- for purchase but I'd rather read them for free! I did find this one to be a bit of a stretch as there was a lengthy foot chase through fresh snow where the pursued thought they couldn't be tailed.
At first you think these are a series of novels with the same characters. Then you find that basically they are one novel, delivered chapter by chapter. A tiresome way of reading what essentially is only one book. But then again, it's fairly well written, the characters are attractive, their quirks are intriguing, and the plot is well thought out, or so it seems.
These are not complete stories. They are more like a few chapters in a longer story. You will have to keep buying the next book if you care to find out what happens. Book one at least had some resolution, but book two just stops. I may never learn who chased our heroes into Arlington National Cemetery.
The Beat Goes On! The second installment in this series kept me glued to the series. Fuller does a fine job of ratcheting up the suspense and keeps the conflict coming! I'm thoroughly enjoying the series and enjoying the relationship between the main characters - nothing seems forced and their interaction is both believable and relatable! Another binge-worthy read!
I have now finished both Episodes 1 & 2 of The Crime Beat in less than 24 hours. To say I have enjoyed them would be an understatement. Traveling with Cole and Warren on their journeys keeps me waiting to see what’s next. Excuse me now, I am ready to start Episode 3. Happy Reading
Plot- or character-driven? Plot Strong character development? It's complicated Loveable characters? It's complicated Diverse cast of characters? Yes Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes
★★★¾: A solid installment in the series, I enjoyed it.
Book 2 continued to the character development and added a few new complications to the plot. Enjoyable and tightly paced, this is well worth a read! Bring on Miami!
Wow such a great part of the saga I guess I’m headed to Miami right now you know what they say about Miami though it gets crazy. Oh well I’m hooked. I gotta know what’s next. I see a Netflix series aye¡¿
The story continues as crime reporter Jane Cole and NYPD cop Robert Warren investigate the assassination of a former VP in Washington. An intersting story which must be read in order, and not as a standalone
Sequentially reading my way through this series. The writer and ex cop are an interesting combination. I’m not sure the DC episode is quite as good as the first BY. But I’m sufficiently invested in the plot to continue reading. The DC section feels incomplete or unfinished to me, almost like a throw away. Let’s see what happens in Miami.
Just like Episode 1 its a great story interesting characters well written going to start episode 3 soon Would recommend this series to anyone who likes z good mystery
Having a pretty good time following Ex-Reporter Jane Cole and Ex-NYPD Cop Robert Warren as they follow the clues to solve a huge cover up crime. The second in the nine-book series already has me predicting a romance here.
Second part of the journalist/ex cop duo. I enjoyed the book but just as I’m getting into it, it ends- do I buy the next book??? Not sure if I’m invested enough to spend more money?
