Ghost Ship: Sparrowhawk Book 2

Rate this book
Spooky space adventure! An aging smuggler persuades Patch and the Sparrowhawk crew to sail into uncharted space to salvage a valuable wrecked ship. The ship is there waiting for them—but so are the dangers of trackless space, pirate raids, warring worlds, and the menacing presence of the derelict ship's dead crew.

The Sparrowhawk Born a slave, tough-talking, soft-hearted Patch is determined never again to let anyone control her fate. Armed with determination and wry humor, she and her rag-tag crew of smugglers and their gambler captain sail their old space hauler into action-filled adventures, one step ahead of the cops and the debt collectors.

"Strap in and enjoy the ride. It's like getting a second life to experience a career as an interstellar smuggler!"—Douglas Phillips, author of the Quantum science fiction series.

Less Than I Expected

Another book, difficult to rate and frustrating to read. The created science for this most unusual form of space travel puts this story in the past, with the likes of Jules Verne and other very early writers. The concept of currents in ether, in space, which form “traveling lanes” and “dark areas” is outside the norm. Unfortunately without these strange conditions in space forming a barrier to space travel, this would have been a very short tale. Character development is minimal, and the other plot elements barely form a story.

While I appreciate the author’s efforts, I find the story confusing, long-winded and more frustrating than enjoyable.

Like, I didn't hate it. But was pretty annoyed even though I kind of enjoyed it...? I don't know.
I came around to the sailing/pirate/swashbuckling world in space. I found that slightly endearing.
But boy are the crew of the sparrowhawk naive and gullible... How many times are they going to fall for the same thing.
And the ending... Kojo holding over her that HE bailed her out...? How's that even possible? She could've bailed herself out. She would've gotten equal crew share and SHE owns the Sparrow so she would've had plenty to bail herself out.
Silly. But easy mindless summer read.

Consistently superior sci fi. Exactly as it should be.

This second novel is of as consistently high quality as the stunning first novel. Brilliantly written. Diverse detailed characters, flawed and otherwise. Grafting main characters given the by numerous questionable individuals and authorities whilst trying to make an honest (HIC) living. Continuing straight from the first novel, developing relationships play out against the diverse dangers of frontier space survival. So far the series is proving exceptionally rewarding. Head and shoulders above other authors.

Just one break, is that asking to much?

Well he we are again , going to do the job all debts paid , money in the pockets and then someone decides to dump on your plans. This is a great cast of characters and they even get along sometimes. Love is in the vacuum of space so lets see who kisses and tells, on to the next book.

The plot has too much 'up and down' going on. The cycle of success-fail, victory-defeat, win-lose was good the first ten or fifteen times, though.
