This (free) ebook gives an excellent overview of what data virtualization is and - also important - what it is not. About 10 pages (called practical examples) are basically publicity for the book's sponsor Denodo, but that is a very small price to 'pay' - and still usefull to know.
You learn what it is, why it is usefull or even necessary and its impact on enterprise strategic programs like SaaS, cloud, IoT, ...
The shortcomings (in time to market and cost) of traditional ETL are pointed out compared to data virtualization. On the other hand, the shortcomings of data virtualization (understandbly) - are not really elaborated on.
Great book that gives you in only 60 easily readibly and illustrated pages on overview on all you need to know to get started with virtualization, including an offer for a free Denodo/AWS trial.
