Shepherd Security Operative, Doc, accepted he was going to die…now, he has to remember how to live.
Shepherd Security has its mental health protocols in place for a reason. PTSD is real. Returning from a mission to Africa that should have ended him, Doc finds out firsthand how real it is. He has a past that only Dr. Lassiter, the team shrink, knows about, a past that they both thought Doc had dealt with. They both thought wrong. The events in Africa trigger dark thoughts and feelings that Doc can’t get past. Over the years, his team has accused him of being grumpy or worse. He’s a stickler for the rules and frowns upon anyone breaking protocol, something he can’t forgive himself for doing too. He is the oldest of the Operators with the big 4-0 quickly approaching, another issue adding to his internal conflict. Doc knows he is cynical and jaded. And he knows that he is the last person any woman needs in her life. Elizabeth is a strong willed and stubborn twenty-four-year-old who has faced more adversity than most. The thing is, she doesn’t seem to know it. And Doc knows she is way too young for him. She isn’t the type of woman he’d ever pick for more reasons than just her age, but she needs his help and needs to have faith in someone or something. In her darkest moments, he is there, her hero. Could she be just what Doc needs to finally be free from the past that has haunted him for over fifteen years? Warning, this story is realistic, with adult language and content on the way to the HEA. This is book 4 in the Shepherd Security series. Even though the story does continue from book to book, each is a stand-alone story and can be read without reading the prior book(s), but they are best enjoyed in order.
Margaret Kay is a wife, a mother of two adult children, a grandmother, a pet lover who makes her own dog food from scratch, and a writer of Military Romance Novels.
Margaret's husband proudly served 8 years in the United States Navy. She's a veteran of more than a few deployments as the spouse who took care of the family while her military member served halfway around the world.
Margaret has given us a bit of everything to make this a page turner. There is action, suspense, drama, danger, tension, angst, emotions, secrets, and a hell of a lot more. Twists and turns abound that you don’t see coming.
The action starts right from the beginning and keeps on coming. It is also a bit of a rollercoaster ride, but this is one series you will get addicted too. It did take me a while to get into the story and used to Margarets storytelling but once I did it is easy to enjoy the stories.
Make sure to start at the beginning as characters do cross over. The stories are told through multiple POV’s as you really get inside the characters heads and know what they are thinking and learn who they are better. These wonderful characters are well written, complex, and fully realised. These alpha men and women are saviours and will do anything to protect those who they love and those who need it to fight against evil and those who wrong others.
There is religious overtones which often had me wondering if I would continue, and the sexual references are left more to the imagination, but the stories soon outweighed all that.
Loved this as much as the first three. Elizabeth is a strong woman but conflicted and Doc is carrying a lot of baggage he won’t admit to. A perceived life and death situation set the course of their lives on a path you won’t know until near the end of their story. Great series...onto to books 5,6,7 and 8. I can’t wait!
I really enjoyed the first couple of books in the series, but this was so disappointing. The H had virtually no backbone at all. The H was obsessed about their age difference as nauseam. Even the "assignment" the team went on was dull. DoD auditors really? Thank heavens for kindle unlimited so I didn't spend money on this bit of boring, just the kids of a few hours
This author has a way with words and writting a story. Still has drama and some action, but this is about a man and a woman who come together in unusual circumstances and come out alive. Doc has been going to a lot of guilt and thinks he doesn't deserve a woman, but Elizabeth has other plans. HEA.
Oh my! In the first few books I wasn’t too fond of Doc. He was rude and uncaring. As the men found their soulmates he has softened some. This book explains everything. It is emotional, heartbreaking and eventually heartwarming. The small community where Angel’s mother is head sister has trouble come their way so the team goes in to rescue them. Doc, aka Alexander Williams, encounters Sister Elizabeth, who’s not a sister anymore, in war torn Africa. Elizabeth is 24 years old and looks like a teenager but has been in Africa since he was 21. She has a CNA degree and learned other lifesaving skills at the school of hard knocks. She’s also tenacious and cares deeply for those she cares for. She has just patched up 2 children and they are not stable enough to be evacuated and she refuses to leave. Doc stays with her and more trouble is headed their way. I loved watching Doc confront his demons and realize he can love again. Elizabeth’s quiet, sweet presence was such a contrast to the surly Doc in the beginning but she found love with Alexander.
Doc is a 39 year old man who works at Shepherd Security. He was married and lost his wife and unborn son when his wife died. The feelings he has for when he wife died has been buried inside of him. During a mission to Africa he meet Elizabeth a 24 year old and it brings up all the unresolved issues that he has. She was going to become a nun but decided against it. They did not leave with the others because two of the boys could not be moved due to their injuries. They are discovered by the boys' father who not a nice person. They are taken to a house and the situation intensifies. You will need to read the book to find out what happens to Doc and Elizabeth. At the end of book 4 I cried. I find that all of these books are fast reading. You should add these books to your reading list.
Bound to a rescue mission in Africa, the team meets their main objective as Alexander ‘Doc’ Williams is struck by the youthful looking, stubborn Sister Elizabeth Shaw a nurse who’s decided not to take her final vows, been acting as the village doctor and refuses to let two critical patients be moved.
Agreeing, Doc stays behind with Elizabeth until the danger passes but they’re captured toward the end of their wait. Doc learns Elizabeth isn’t as young as she looks but there’s a 16year age difference and she brings up too many long-buried issues from his past. Meanwhile, Elizabeth’s invested in Doc but he can’t see past his own needs. Rating: 4stars
If you’re not a devout Christian, you may want to skip this one.
I really enjoyed the previous books in this series. I like the author’s style and storytelling. I’m a fan of Doc in the other books. However, I could not relate to this female main character in any way, shape, or form. I skimmed past too many bible verses and I don’t think having faith shoveled at me enhanced the story. I will at least begin the next book, but if the Christian interpretation of god continues to be a major focus, I won’t finish it nor will I return to this author.
This story was a little different than the others, but just as powerful. I loved Doc's story, reading about his tragic past which made him into the man he is, and watching him find peace again. I really like the camaraderie and love that is shared between this unconventional family. Can't wait to read more of the series! I would definitely recommend this book, series, and exceptional author.
I love this collection of books. The sex is generally not too graphic and the violence is not too graphic and the romance stories are believable. As too the novels your sisters write I am sorry but they are not the kind I enjoy. The sister who writes the other romance novels I believe would have too much sex in them. I love the books in this series and would like to read others like it.
It started out with great action. Liked how the story was going, but then when they get into the relationship, it was just blah. Very mundane tasks. The team goes on a mission but nothing really happens. I felt as though the author was just putting extra chapters in there to get to Zulu.
This is another very entertaining book in this series. I love the variation in the characters and their depth. I enjoy the fast pace of the story. I appreciate that, even though it is a small part of the book, marriage and God are treated with respect and not in a heavy handed way. Great story!
Exciting, intense and beautifully written! I totally loved this book! Very emotional chemistry between the characters and a beautiful love story. I definitely recommend reading this book!
What a powerful story. Many important topics are covered with love and grace. I love these characters and when this series is complete I know the sadness will overwhelm me.
It was a good book and I was anxious to read Doc's story. Elizabeth was so naive and innocent but at the same time you could see that there was fire in her. Doc wanted what his teammates have and he got it
Well written action and character development, with a terrific ride through the different books about the family you make, not necessarily the one you were born into. I am now a Margaret Kay fan.
This is Doc's and Elizabeth's story. They met in Africa and were sure they were going to be killed. She begged Doc to show her love before the enemies started to rape her. Very good read really enjoyed it.
Truly enjoying this series. This one felt a little off. I really did not feel the love. I hope in future books this couple is revisited because it feels like they are only together because of the baby.
I just love these guys and ladies in your stories,,yourgar books are dam good.I can't read fast enough..hut thank you for writing them..your a great storie teller.
This series is awesome. The characters are so interesting and they are so detailed that you can picture everything that is described. I love the stories. You feel like you are there. I can’t wait to start the next book in this series.
Doc our H was annoying in this one. And almost Sister Elizabeth the h they just didn’t appear to be believable as a couple. I think I might be getting over this series alway. The H going on and on and on about their age. Don’t get me started on what a arsehole he was when they touched down on US soil.
The first part of Operation: Fallen Angel is so tense; I almost had a heart attack. The middle slowed down somewhat, chuckle, aka the stress level drops. The ending was very exciting. Another terrific Margaret Kay book!
I could not put this book down. I read it in one sitting. Interesting and very enjoyable. Good characters in interesting situations that made it a page turner. Very good writing.
