122 books90 followersHerman Parish (born 1953) is the author of Amelia Bedelia children's book series, nephew of original author, Peggy Parish. Having grown up with his aunt’s tales of Amelia’s humorous misadventures, Herman decided to carry on the legacy after his aunt’s death in 1988. He did not wish to entrust the future of the series into the hands of a children’s author outside of the family. Since Peggy had the summers off from teaching, she was able to stay with the Parish family for extended periods of time, allowing Herman and Peggy to develop a close relationship. More importantly, this gave Herman a chance to keenly observe Peggy during her writing processes, gaining great insight to the road ahead of him. To carry on the essence of the series, Herman thoroughly examined his aunt’s work and did his best to capture what exactly made the character of Amelia Bedelia such a hit. Having editor Susan Hirschman and illustrator Lynn Sweat in common with his aunt helped to make the transition. He has added thirteen more books to the series. Herman is a resident of Princeton, New Jersey, and travels to libraries and schools across the United States, speaking and inspiring young children. The importance of revising and editing is often stressed during these dynamic lectures. He has presented to students in more than 22 states.

It was an overall good read, but some part were slightly boring. For example like the time that Amelia and her friends made snow angels.

A cute holiday read for kids. Amelia Bedelia books really make you realize just how figurative the English language is - so many phrases that I rarely give a thought to. I like how the back has a “Two Ways to Say It” guide with idioms from the book contrasted with a clear cut phrasing for what the idiom means. This is great example of how to make language more accessible for neurodivergent folks who may not understand idiomatic language! Including the cookie recipe and directions for making your own personal photo snow globe was also a very cute inclusion.

Cute holiday story I read aloud with my 7 year old daughter. I have loved Amelia Bedelia’s antics since I was a girl and this Christmas book did not disappoint!

A really fun chapter book riddled with word play (explained in the back). It's charming, fun and engaging. Craft instructions and cookie recipe included for added bonus!

Reading Amelia Bedelia as a child is one of my fondest memories. My siblings and I would gather around my mom as she read aloud to us! I recall laughing hysterically whenever Amelia Bedelia took something literal (ie draw the blinds). So, when it came time to pick a book to read with my niece (to help us get in the holiday spirit), Amelia Bedelia Wraps It Up, was a no brainer.
I was surprised to find that unlike the books of my youth, Amelia has been reimagined as a young girl. While her age had drastically changed, readers can still count on her to be both hilarious and endearing as she makes her way through life.
This book did a fantastic job with the following things. First, it not only talked about Amelia’s family traditions, but her friends as well. Second, when Amelia wanted to buy her parents a gift she took on additional chores. She understood the importance of money and working to earn it. Finally, when Amelia learned that there was a greater need in her community, she donated the money she raised and made her parent’s gift at home.
Children are constantly bombarded with the message that Christmas is about gifts. But this book focused on the meaning of why we give gifts and how we can use our special skills to help others.
If you have or know of a child between the ages of 6-10, I highly recommend this book!

When I was a little girl I loved Amelia Bedelia books. My mother lovingly called me Ketti Maletti Amelia Bedelia. This version is updated and is about a little girl, she is similar in one way to the Amelia Bedelia maid of my childhood; they both mix up two ways to say things. I guess that the new books are gentler, less laughing at the mix-ups. It cute, but it made me miss the original. The book has a very cute cover, directions for an activity, a recipe, and two ornaments to cut out in the back, very sweet.

Christmas arrived here in September for reasons known best to a four year old. This is definately one of the better Amelia Bedelia books out there, Amelia is her usual kind hearted but completely literal self. There are the usual Amelia Bedelia word based misunderstandings which I usually find just a bit irritating and Ella doesn't get at all. Oh well.
Ella did like the Christmas theme and all the kind things Amelia and her friends tried to do for their community. I appreciated the updated pictures and the attempt to minimize the amount of times I had to say the words "Amelia Bedelia". That gets so old!
One of the better Amelia's out there. A solid holiday read. 7/10

Amelia Bedelia and her friends launch a holiday business-wrapping presents, baking cookies, hanging Christmas lights, addressing Christmas cards, and more. Their energy and good cheer help their neighbors and rejuvenate holiday spirits, especially when a monster snowstorm threatens to cancel the annual town celebration. An overall humorous story perfect for individual and group reading with great opportunities to build vocabulary skills!

This book is about Amelia and her family and friends Amelia try's to save money to buy a snow globe that look's like a snow globe that her family used to own. When their family was younger they were so poor they didn't even have 2 cents. At the end they teach the reader, that means you, how to make cookies. I recommend this book to 8-12. They also have a dog named finally.

I like the new Amelia Bedelia picture books, however, the chapter books seem written in a way that almost dumbs them down for the reader!! I don't think even my nine year old self would have loved this. 😥

My 7 year old enjoyed it. I found it irritating how they would introduce a figure of speech and the resulting confusion from Amelia, but they wouldn’t explain it.
