Swift's "Modest Proposal" and Other Essays

Rate this book
Jonathan Swift was both a world class satirist and one who hated the very humans he was satirizing. He is best known for "Gulliver's Travels" but he vented his spleen in many other essays, one of which is "A Modest Proposal." There is nothing modest about his plan to kill two birds with one stone: to reduce the overpopulation of Ireland and to find a way to feed the remaining inhabitants. Even today Swift's many satires takes a little getting used to.
