Five dark stars for Dahila and Ares 💕!!!

This is the first book I've read by Dani René and I was really impressed with this one. The book takes my heart from the first page and I didn't get it back until the end.
"Cruel War" is the book which will keep your attention through the whole book. That means that you won't take the break from reading until you finished it.
In this book, you will find so many angst, secrets, ups and downs that make you want more and more every time.
If you're looking for dark college bully romance, then you need to read this one!

I knew going into this that it was going to be an amazing read and start to what promises to be an amazing series... and I was not proven wrong. True to Dani, she went in hard with this book and delivered. I knew in a matter of words that I was hooked. I was completely hooked and as predicted, I couldn't put it down until the very last word in the book.
Dani is known for her darker side of romances, the mystery, the unknown, the romances that will have you second-guessing everything you think you have pieced together and figured out. All too often I will think I know what's about to happen, and then BAM... It takes a turn and she throws you into a plot full of twists and turns you seriously don't see coming and this book was just the same.
Ares Lancaster and Dahlia Milton were insanely intense right from the start. The heat, the passion, the lust, hate, pain, heartache, all of it... It was consuming. Dahlia has become a ploy, she is the key to Ares getting revenge on the death of his mother, but he Ares did not expect what happened. She isn't what he expected. Not even a little bit, and the feelings he finds he has for this woman threw him off track. Threw him in the opposite direction that he actually planned his plan to go. He went into this wanting to take her for revenge, to right the wrongs others had done to his family and himself... But that all went to shit when he met Dahlia. But is this thing? Passion? Lust? Love? is it enough to stop him? Can love really trump all, conquer all? Or will he get the revenge he has been seeking?
This book was one hell of a ride and kept me on my toes all the way through. The suspense, the mystery, the hatred, the betrayal, the lust, the heat, the obsession, the need, the fucking angst... But when I say angst, I don't mean this to be a slow burn, because it most certainly was not that. It was full force from the moment I started reading and it had my heart pounding and my palms sweating. I devoured this bad boy.
I am so eager to see what Dani has up her sleeve next!

With the help of some spewed out bullshit, deceit and a web of lies, Ares is hell bent on using this little fragile flower for his revenge but he just can not harm her. His body, mind and soul disagree with his actions. He can't resist this midnight hair colored beauty. They are attracted like moth to the flame. Ah, their story was so good to watch.
Ares changed into a whole new man. He grew so much. What started as hate turned into confused feelings, like lust or may be love? But this devil isn't used to such weak feelings. The Sovereign table has no place for weaklings. Hence Ares must figure out to deal with the bullshit that's been going on around him.
Their chemistry was on fire. From the moment Ares saw Dahlia, his mind is filled with her thoughts, his eyes keep searching this doll and his heart, ah. Such a poor little thing. Their passion was intense. This was an enemies-to-lovers trope and one, that has been excellently pulled off by the author. The side characters including Dahlia's best friend Rukaiya and Ares's two important people namely Tarian and Etienne were a charm to watch! They gave life to this novel like nobody could. There was humor, fear, danger, mystery and darkness. Above all, it was a war between TRUTH AND LIES! LOVE AND HATE! Ares and Dahlia were truly stunning. I am so excited for Book 2. Come on time, roll over!!

This story is filled with non stop action, twists and turns and of course romance. Ares is one determined man and nothing will stand in his way of what he’s wanted all of his life. Dahlia thought she knew about her family but when secrets are told your jaw will drop. We’re kept on our toes throughout this story and just when you think you’ve found out all there is to know, there’s another path that reveals itself. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for the Guilded Sovereign Series.

Now I really wanted to love this but the guys were just man hoes . And for the moment I can’t deal with them . ( this is not a RH )
The second book in the series we take
‘ In high school, Etienne was like a goddamned manwhore. He lost his virginity to an older woman, but he’s never told us her name. All we know about her is that she’s a cougar who loves her boy toys. ‘
^^^ he is a MAN HOE with capital letters . He’s the hero for the second book ( i think)
We have the hero walking in on his older brother getting a BJ and even seeing him finishing . WHAT I’m done .
I finished reading this but wanted more . I saw a post on the authors Instagram and the hero seemed very possessive but he wasn’t . I wanted to see more of them together . Like they kiss then fucked then fucked and then drama then it ended . That fast . Idk .
Maybe I’m not going to read the second one because it has the same plot as this one . And he’s a man hoe . NOPE .

The characters were boring, and the story was all over the place, nothing made sense. I found myself wanting to forward to the end every couple of pages.

I have to admit that it was the name of the series that initially hooked me. I really, REALLY wanted to find out more and I wasn’t disappointed! I was hooked from the beginning and thoroughly enjoyed watching as everything unfolded between Ares and Dahlia as well as getting to find out just what The Gilded Sovereign was all about and meeting a whole new crew of characters that I cannot wait to get to know better.
I loved Dahlia and Ares. Dahlia’s got moxie. She’s sweet, sassy and despite the typical teenage insecurities is comfortable in her own skin and I loved how she didn’t back down from getting what she wanted, even if it could hurt her. Ares is all kinds of bad boy smexy AF alpha male. He is stubborn, driven and, despite being something of a loose cannon at times, has a good head on his shoulders and a good heart that he tends to hide away from the world.
Their journey to their HEA definitely starts off on an interesting foot, but it’s ridiculously apparent that they are both attracted to each other regardless of if they should or shouldn’t be. But watching as they both got under the others skins and found that there could be so much more was a lot of fun and I really liked where they ended up at the end of the book.
Cruel War is a great start to a new series. There was just the right balance of angst and humor and heartbreak and smexyness to keep things interesting without anything getting too OTT. The world building was good and I liked how we got to know what the Gilded Sovereign was and it’s history without it feeling like an information dump was happening, all while realizing that there was so much more to it than even the those apart of it knew. And as for the secondary cast of characters, I loved Ettiene, Tarian ~ these two are true friends who will have your back no matter what, but aren’t just ‘yes’ men. They will push back when necessary ~ Rukaiya is a force and I’m looking forward to getting to her better and I even liked Philipe when everything was said and done and am definitely looking forward to getting to know this crew a lot better in the next book!

I was absolutely enthralled of this story about children of archenemies. One who thinks he knows it all and wants to go after what HE wants, while the other has no clue what’s in store for HER.

Ares starts off intense and every little bit of the anti-hero type that I love! He’s hellbent on seeking revenge on the little flower that he set his eyes on, but what is that built up?
Half truths. Deceit. Betrayal. Blood.
Dahlia is everything I love in a heroine and more! She’s smart, sassy, and curious. A bookworm by nature, but if you fuck with her, she doesn’t back down! This girl has claws and isn’t afraid to use it!
These two blew me away with their on fire chemistry! Even when they tried to convince themselves otherwise, they both couldn’t deny what was brewing between them the moment they met on campus.
I swear, Dani Rene blows me away every single time she comes out with a new book and Cruel War is exceptional!

It seems to me that my review and rating will be in the minority.
Reading this put me in a bad mood, so I'm going to do my best to write a review that's not too harsh. It'll probably short because I'm not feeling real nice at the moment.
My issues:
- Storyline/history: mMajor plot holes. The whole time I was thinking 'what the fuck' because nothing made sense
- Characters: Bland. They were forced together, so it wasn't really authentic. Ares was abusive.
- Writing: Shockingly not bad, but so far from being good.
I know I should write constructive criticism. But this author has published multiple books before, so this should be way better than it is.

Cruel War by Dani Rene is the First book in The Gilded Sovereign Series. This is the story of Ares Lancaster and Dahlia Milton. Ares is a young strong rich man who rules with a iron fist. When his mother is killed he goes forward with plans of revenge which include Dahlia. Dahlia and Ares family are enemies that shed blood between the two. Dahlia knows that Ares is not a good person and that he is darkness. But Dahlia is a strong young women who can seems to handle what he is.
This is a dark young read but one that you can't put down too.

Once I started reading this series I wasn't sure it was going to be for me but , OMG ! these characters just suck you right in as their intriguing and dangerous and "yes", down right volatile.
The whole concept of the story drew you right in and the story itself kept you in edge to and turning the pages the very end.I could not put the book down.I have to say were are enjoying this series and enjoying its characters even more.
I loved Ares that man scared the heck out of us.Although Ares was tall dark and dangerous and a total alpha it's what simmers beneath the surface in him that still make him human.His vengeance is blinding and he wanted Dahlia to pay for her fathers sins but, no matter how much he torments her he is drawn to her body and soul. Even when Ares was tormenting her he cared for her to a certain extent and it was not just her physical appearance that drew him to her it was so much more.

Dahlia she grew up oblivious to the secrets surrounding her but, when she learns those secrets will she been able to handle the darkness those secrets come with? I am banking on my girl being strong enough... We just loved her from the onset of meeting her and we knew that she would be Are's savior as well as his perfect match in every way.
Ares and Dahlia had smokin hot chemistry together and they sizzled together quite perfectly. We loved that sometimes that their is more than just love ,honor ,duty and family but, that sacrifices are just as important to make for the sake of the ones you love.
One of the things that drew us to the characters in this story was the darkness that resided within each of them and at such a young age it was even more heartbreaking to handle. They were all cocky and conceded and arrogant and thought that others were just their playthings but, one thing always stood out to me and that was not matter how dark or dangerous each of them were they were capable of feeling something at-least because they loved one another and considered each other their brothers and well as family as they were close-knit and protective of each other and who die for one another.
This was an engrossing tale that had us glued to the pages the entire time and although the story made us uneasy at times we couldn't put it down because we couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next in this twisted tale.

The whole concept of the story drew you right in and the story itself kept you in edge to and turning the pages the very end.I could not put the book down.I have to say were are enjoying this series and enjoying its characters even more.
I loved Ares that man scared the heck out of us.Although Ares was tall dark and dangerous and a total alpha it's what simmers beneath the surface in him that still make him human.His vengeance is blinding and he wanted Dahlia to pay for her fathers sins but, no matter how much he torments her he is drawn to her body and soul. Even when Ares was tormenting her he cared for her to a certain extent and it was not just her physical appearance that drew him to her it was so much more.

It was late at night when Cruel War book landed on my Kindle and I said to myself "I'll only take a peak and read one page or two" but it sucked me in and I had sleepless night afterwards. Dani Rene written interesting and intriguing story from the very first chapter.
Cruel War book starts new Gilded Sovereign series, where author introduces us to the new world of rich and powerful families who rule the entire town.
This is also a story about love, hate and deeply rooted revenge.
Main heroine, Dahlia after terrible events in her life, moved into the small Tynewood town, but being a new girl in new school it wasn't an easy piece of cake for a teenager. Although she was nineteen, she was a strong heroine with sassy mouth and feisty attitude. She was cleaver and quick witted with a fire spirit. I was surprised how easily she could handle Ares and he wasn't easy to get along.
Ares Lancaster was born into the family who rules whole city for ages.
He had imprinted that whole world is lying at his feet. He was young, handsome and rich but also very arrogant, swagger and overconfident badass with devilish smirk. He was used to girls never say “no” to him, so when he met Dahlia, she got under his skin so deeply that he couldn't shake her out of his mind.
He was also dangerous and fearless with dark gleam in his eyes but it was tempting for Dahlia and pulled her to him the most.
But there was something more and profound in the story.
Harm done in the past by family wrong doing blinded and guided Ares to seek revenge.
They were enemies even before they've meet but there was also very powerful chemistry between them and I loved their twisted relationship.
I was enthralled how author build tension and anticipation in the story.
Suspense and many mysteries in the story made me constantly hanging on the edge, awaiting what will happen next. The plot was getting twisted and more darker with every next chapter.
At one point I thought that I finally figured out what will happen next but I was totally wrong! Dani Rene played with my mind once again.
I'm waiting impatiently for more in this series although Cruel War book is a standalone novel and you can read it without cliffhanger.

What a phenomenal start to this new series! The story of Ares and Dahlia will hold you captivated from the very first sentence. This story has so much going on, so many twists and turns that will make your head spin! These two are not meant to be together, so much has happened in the past to warrant them not being in any kind of a relationship. But the chemistry between them, makes you think that maybe they will end up together?? Ares is a very strong, alpha character, who while very rough around the edges, you can't help but fall in love with. And Dahlia is definitely a force to be reckoned with. She has had struggles in her life that just makes her the strong woman that she becomes and you will love her as well. This story has it all....anger, lust, danger, and possibly love! I was so entranced with this story, that I literally read it in one sitting! This book is a definite must read!

One thing I love about Dani Rene's writing is the complexity of everything. Her plots are deep and twisted, and keep me on the edge of my seat, her characters are well developed, and she knows how to get your blood pumping with her passionate sexy scenes. I love devouring her stories as fast as I can, and then I always suffer a book hangover when I finish. The good thing about this one is that it's the first book in a new series, so there is going to be more of this wild ride.
This is an enemies to lover romance that is full of lies, secrets, obsession, and burning passion. You are thrust into the action on almost the first page and it doesn't slow down until the end. It's crazy intense! Ares is the ultimate bad boy who comes from a very powerful family with some serious secrets. His past has made him angry and he's out for some serious revenge. Dahlia is the new girl in town who has suffered some tragedies but hasn't let them break her. When they go up against each other sparks fly and their passion rages like an inferno, but the anger and hate burn just as hot. This story is a fast-paced, suspenseful read that shouldn't be missed.

The Gilded Sovereign is a secret society that rules the area with an iron fist, the world with just as much of a tightness. Every generation takes the mantle, and now it is Ares and his friends time to take it. However, he also has a vendetta to another family, and he will do anything and everything he can to make sure that family pays for their sins.
Dahlia is a fireball. God, I loved her. She has spirit and heart. Also, nobody, including Ares, is going to take that away from her. However, every lie that is told and every sin that is made could make it harder for them to step into the light.
Although this is a college/new adult story, it is a little dark and dangerous. I loved it. However, Dani is always bringing her A-game, and this is just another example. A must-read!

Dahlia and Ares are part of a war neither of them knew existed. Nor did they want to be apart of it. But when we are born into a family we don't always get what we want. But do we have to follow what our ancestors did? Isn't change a good thing. Dani brings us on this crazy ride of the Gilded Sovereign and everything that comes with a secret society. But getting to know Dahlia and Ares made the ride so worth it. I can't wait to find out more about this sovereign and they people who are part of it.

I was super excited to see this author was writing a new series. She is an awesome writer and it seems that no matter what she writes I love. This is another to add to that as this consumed me.
Ares and Dahlia. Crikey their story was all kinds of everything. I couldn’t read it fast enough and then I didn’t want it to finish. So many questions and so many answers.
This book grabbed me hook, line and sinker. Dani is in a league of her own. Expect the unexpected with her.

Woah I���m blown away! Intense edge of your seat book. A hate to love romance that keeps you wanting more and more. Ares is a alpha male who will do anything for his father. Dahlia just rocks I love how she’s a fighter and her attitude just tops it off. Both together is like fire! I can’t wait to read more of this series but just this book alone is awesome! 5/5 stars

Cruel War was the first book in the Gilded Sovereign series. I can tell this series is going to be great! I look forward to reading more in this series. This book has great characters! Dahlia is such a strong character and I start to like Ares more throughout the story. This book is dark and will keep you guessing until the end.

This is one series I can NOT wait to continue! Dani René is one of my top one-click authors but Cruel War, WOW! I had high expectations for this book and René absolutely delivered PLUS some!!! Told in dual POV we start off with Ares & Dahlia’s story.

Every time I thought I had somewhat of an idea of where the story was going *BOOM*, another twist and I was back to white-knuckling my Kindle!
Family, enemies, deceit, betrayal, lies, and revenge Cruel War has it all!
Dahlia is a force to be reckoned with! The more Ares pushes her, the more she pushes back! She’s smart, sassy, a total spitfire and EVERYTHING I want in a heroine! Dahlia is nothing like Ares expected her to be and throws him totally off his game.
“When Ares is around nothing makes sense. Least of all my stupid fluttering heartbeat.”Ares, the cocky, alpha, rich, and powerful playboy. Ares starts off as an anti-hero but we see the most character development throughout the story with him. He goes from wanting to hurt Dahlia to doing everything he could no matter the sacrifice or the consequences to protect his little flower. He’s a little rough around the edges but you can’t help but fall for him.
“I don’t know why, but there’s a tether between us, and I’m about to tie it even tighter.”
The chemistry between these two was off the charts right from the start! As much as Ares wants to hurt Dahlia for some reason… he can’t. Ares isn’t used to hearing “no” from girls, so when Dahlia stands up to him it only makes him want her more. Even when they were enemies you could cut the sexual tension between them with a knife! From the moment Ares sees her, she’s constantly in his thoughts. The same goes for Dahlia, even though he’s a total jerk towards her she can’t stop thinking about him. But both are just to damn stubborn to admit it. But no matter how they tried to deny that something was happening between the two of them, it didn’t take long before the fire between them turned into flames! Let me just say, the steamy scenes… 🔥🔥🔥

The secondary characters just made the story that much better and I am hoping they ALL get their own stories! Ares best friends, Tarian and Etienne were hilarious and most definitely helped with the comic relief during intense moments. Dahlia’s best friend Rukaiya, I won’t give away anything so I’ll just OMG… I can NOT wait to see what goes on with her now. Oh, and we can’t forget Ares big brother Philipe, he’s another character I would LOVE to see more about!
I absolutely adore Dani Rene’s writing! This one is a bit of a darker, edgier romance, the kind that keeps you right on the edge of your seat because there is a guarantee that something is going to happen that you will NEVER see coming… and I absolutely LOVED it! With each new release she just keeps reeling me in, hook, line, & sinker!
Cruel War was an amazing start to what I can already tell is going to be one EPIC series and I can’t wait to see what comes next! I highly recommend checking this one out ASAP, definite MUST READ!

OH MY HELL! WHAT DID I JUST READ?! I've got to say that Cruel War has become my favorite from Dani Rene, and seriously, she's completely hooked me & I'm hers completely! I don't want to go into details because I honestly 100% believe it's better going in blind for the EPIC experience. It's the story of two young people named Ares Lancaster & Dahlia Milton, who come from families which are bitter enemies. And I'm not talking about just an insult here & there, nope, it's like kill each other type of insanity. This leads to the revenge that Ares needs for the death of his mother, so Dahlia was a means to an end. Next up a very intense journey of chaos filled with secrets & lies, frustrating push & pull, and off the charts chemistry which won't be denied. So, the sexy times were HOT HOT HOT, but you already know that feelings will somehow be caught in the midst of all the chaos. There's a crazy cast of secondaries which fall in 3 categories; the good, the bad, and the oh so very ugly, and all of them added to the story in big ways. To be honest this is actually my first dani rene book! So I can’t wait to dive into this! I read rhe blurb for this book and that got me hooked!
Ares seems like a douche but damn is he a hot one! Lol and Dahlia is the quiet girl.... Ares wants revenge but from what? I guess we’ll find out! I also love books about secret societies!
Ares and Dahlia are intense! From the moment they first see each other it’s instant lust and attraction even though Ares hates her and she doesn’t know what to think about him because she know that she should stay away from him!
Ares hates her because he wants to get revenge from his mother being murdered.
Ares eventually has to start dealing with his confusing feelings towards Dahlia.
Even though they shouldn’t be together nothing can stop their attraction even if it leads to heartache.
You guys! OMG! Even though this was my first Dani Rene book it was freaking amazing! Like what the hell!! I seriously love dark romances and this was so good! This was everythingggg

Yay!! A new series to get my teeth into from this great author.
Hot Alpha Males are a big plus for me when it comes to what I read. Ares was just that and more. But what I really loved about this story was Dahlia. A young woman in a new town she knows nothing about, living with her gran who she has seen only a few times in her life. The only light in her life as she embarks on her first year at Tynewood University is her best friend who has moved to this tight knit little town with her.
Enter Ares Lancaster. The town troublemaker and bad boy all the girls fall over. After a rather intense first meeting Dahlia is as drawn to him as any other girl, but a warning from her gran sparks so many questions that she seeks him out because he is the only one who can give her the answers. As the story unravels she finds out much more than she bargained for, but she doesn't back down or run and hide, she stands tall and gives it her all tackling what they throw at her head on. A true Alpha Female and a perfect match for Ares in more ways than one
This story has it all, ups, downs, slow burn romance and gripping suspense that you can't help rushing to the end to see what happens. I can't wait to see where this author will go next with this hot to trot new series
