Summer of First Kisses #4

Until We Were More

Rate this book
I had a list and he was not on it.So far this summer, my three closest friends have all gotten kissed and found love.

What did I get? Zane—the most conceited, annoying, and immature guy I knew. Sure, other girls might think he was totally hot, but that was because he didn't purposefully drive them them insane.

I must have been crazy to let him talk me into helping him with his crazy plan. Spending so much time with him had unexpected and dangerous consequences.

In my defense, I had no idea that Zane could do more than make my eye twitch—that he'd make my pulse race and my heart pound. And as always, he knew exactly how to push my buttons.

Thanks to him, my goal was was simply to get through this summer without getting kissed.

Because I was pretty sure if we did, we'd never be frenemies again.

Piper's goal for the summer after high school graduation was to get three of her friends to have their first kiss. They did, but when Piper realizes she pretty much had nothing to do with getting it to happen, the couples got together on their own and now she's the only one in their group without a boyfriend, she gets a little down. Zane has a plan to help a couple of new kids to their group who seem to like each other get together and he needs Piper to help him make it happen.

This was not my favorite of the series. Although everyone involved has graduated high school, I felt there was too much teenage angst for me. I really didn't see Piper and Zane getting together because they were SO opposite in so many ways, and he struck me as a little too immature.

It was fun to read that the previous pairings were still as much in love as before, and I like how this group of friends have been friends for a long time. This is part of a YA series that should probably be read in order because it mentions relationships that happened in the previous three books. This is a clean romance.

I received a complimentary copy. All thoughts expressed in this review are my own.

I've loved getting to know this group of friends throughout this series, and I love how each book focuses on just one couple, while still allowing the reader a glimpse of beloved characters from previous stories. The beach setting is an especially great bonus.

Piper and Zane have a very salty relationship. They're always zinging, teasing, putting down, and annoying each other, but when push comes to shove, they're there for each other. When Zane comes up with a plan and needs Piper's help, she's hesitant, but little do they know what they're in for.

This whole idea of having a summer of first kisses was Piper's idea, so it was fun to see it all come back around for her to have her turn. However, this story had more angst and drama than the others and Zane and Piper seemed a little too opposite for this to work, but I'm still hoping for the best for them.

Content: mild romance

This book may be about young adults, but I really do enjoy this series about friends realizing that they can be so much more — even the really irritating ones! It's come full circle back to Piper, who started this whole thing, and even though Zane is the last man standing, so to speak, it's still believable. I'm also a sucker for banter, and there's a lot of it!

A clean, fun romance that I would recommend.

I received an ARC, but this is my honest review.

Young and Happy

3.5, rounding up
Cute YA story. Short but sweet. Part of a series that doesn't have to be read in order but you might be happier if you do. I love the beach setting and this group of friends. It's young and happy.

Fun and flirty

-“You know what? I’m not even going to worry about you having Zane in here.” “Why not?” Zane’s offended tone made me laugh. “Because Tate knows I’m closer to killing you than kissing you right now. And that is one hundred percent always the case.” Zane smirked. “Well, be careful. We’re going to be spending a lot of time together and you might just find out how irresistible I am.”-

This is part of a series and best read in order due to already-formed relationships being mentioned throughout the book and many different characters. It’s a clean teen/ya romance story and suitable for all ages.
I enjoyed the light, flirty comments and camaraderie between the characters. It was a very fun read and I look forward to reading Brooklyn’s story next. Recommended.

Sweet novella

Zane and Piper seem like an unlikely couple. But... they just needed the right perspective.

Short, sweet novella. I enjoyed seeing a more serious side to Zane. One that shows his depth a little more. And after a few bumps, I'm positive he and Piper will balance and compliment each other in the best way.

I'm also looking forward to reading Brooklyn's story. Dying to know what's up with Ridge and his secret. Maybe after that since everyone is coupled off, we'll get a killer epilogue with updates on everyone! They're all so sweet.

When this series started I was not expecting the whole series to be a friends to lovers trope, but it sure has been fun. It was easy to see that Zane and Piper would go together as the perfect opposites attract. I loved their teasing back and forth. This was a sweet story. It was fun getting to know Piper better. I wish we'd heard Zane's voice as well. I was only expecting a series about the four girls, but am glad Brooklyn has been added to the line up.

Until We Were More (Summer Of First Kisses Book 4) is based around Zane and Piper. He's the class clown, she is the organized, make a list kind of girl. What starts as a fake double date to get Brooklin and Ridge together inadvertently backfired and Zane and Piper were the ones that started having feelings for each other. Zane has ribbed and aggravated Piper forever. They are all In the same group of friends and to see them together surprised all the others. They had fussed at each other and she had constantly called him every name she could think of but he wouldn't stop. When a guy she didn't know started hollering at her and following her on the beach when she was walking back to her friends, Zane came up behind him and knocked him down in the sand with his surf board and told him to leave his girl alone and he put his arm around her waist. They decide to go to the club where Ridge plays and he sung a song he wrote about Brooklin and it upset her. She ran out and Ridge followed. When they went to find where Brooklyn and Ridge ran off too they find them kissing and Zane and Piper goes the other way to give them some privacy and they wind up kissing. They decided that they have feelings they never had with any other person. They decide that it was something to keep enjoying and see where it went. A great short romcom to read.

A summer love series most teens will like

I like evidence in romance stories that the relationship is going to work. Who wants to believe it won't, right? But I felt like this was one relationship that wouldn't make it. It seemed like more physical attraction than anything with substance and piper is really difficult to get a long with. Zane will eventually get sick of her bossing him around. Quite a few typos.
The series as a whole had a lot of crass comments about women. Not my thing. I like how the main guys were gentlemen with their women though after they got together. I can see how most teens would like the series because it's all volatile emotion and desperate kisses. I won't read it again.

Can frenemies be something more?

4 1/2 Stars! When nothing goes quite as planned for her summer, Piper's, frenemy asks for help.

She tries one again to plan, something she's always been good at and see if this last attempt to help a friend pans out.

Piper ends up getting far more than what she bargained for. She begins to see Zane in a whole new light, and they end up being the two to become a couple.

Just bummed I found this series and it said to expect a 5th about Brooklyn and Ridge coming summer 2020, since summer is over I thought I'd be able to read it right away. Looks more like it isn't going to happen after all. :(

This was such a good book. It raised a lot more serious concerns as opposed to the other books that were mostly fluff, but it just made the story more real and relatable.

Zane and Piper were gems. I always enjoy the “opposites attract” tropes. It was fun how they would always argue and tease each other. And I enjoyed how that slowly shifted into something more. Can’t wait to read Brooklyn and Ridge’s story.

I don’t get these two as a couple at all. They treat each other terribly. He’s completely immature and annoying. She’s rude. Then they decide they’re attracted to each other and decide to start a relationship. Even though they don’t seem to even like each other otherwise. Whatever. They’re 18. 🤷‍♀️

An opposites attract romance

The author has humorous witty style that is present again. The carefree tease, Zane, and the type A leader, Piper had always been like oil and water. Friends that were constantly fighting but as they grew into young adults began to recognize the underlying attraction that Piper had a hard time accepting. This makes an enjoyable read.

Frenemies?

I loved Piper and Zane’s story. She could barely stand him and he was always teasing her, but there was so much more to their relationship.
This was a clean, cute, sweet, YA story.

I adore a good frenemies story. This one did not disappoint! Zane and Piper are such polar opposites yet they compliment each other perfectly. I enjoyed the storyline and how their fake dating scheme backfired on them. But where is the last book???? I’m waiting!

This was a cute, quick read. Zane was really funny and I found Piper personally relatable (teehee). I just wished this was a little bit longer to create a more substantive story between them. Overall, I still enjoyed this one.
