Thoroughly engrossing, a wild ride through utter devastation. A Shocking, terrifying and frightening experience! Intense battles with the “Oblivion”, horrible revelations of an unknown, cruel enemy. A peace treaty turns sideways, unexpected attacks from strange beings with incredible strength and high tech, this is a gripping and exciting story, with humanity’s very existence compromised. Hard and decisive decisions to make, the whole scenario is dantesque. A superbly described plot, with strong protagonists. This co joint work by James and Young is an impressive read. Looking forward to reading First Contact #2.

3 Stars for Lost Mission: Oblivion, Book 1 (audiobook) by Joshua James and Daniel Young read by James Fouhey.
I tried but I just couldn’t get into this story. I’m not sure what the problem was but I’m done with the series.

Big dissapointment
This sounded so good on paper, but in actuality it was a massive let down. I felt bored out of my mind here and I don't really get it how that is even possible in such a fast passed story with so much going on.
There's are many POVs here, all are human and involved with this war in a way or another. There are many things happening here: aliens shifters (kind of), sabotage, many battles or fights, terrorist attacks, a kind of cult too, etc. Even with all that I couldn't wait for it to finish.
The narration was excellent though, so at least there is that.
Free on ku and audible plus catalogue too.

This is a fast-paced book and an easy read. However, it felt like the authors were too committed to putting humanity into an underdog, losing position. There were consistency issues in the technology, with some things being way super-advanced while others were just barely out of the twentieth century. The characters had very little depth, but there was a lot of action. Fun to read once, but I am not sure I want to commit to 8 more books.

My head must not be in the right place at the moment. In Covid 19 national lockdown, plenty of time for reading. I can't get into the book.
Which is really sad. This IS the kind of book I really enjoy. The characters are well formed. A good story. Not much techno babble. The story is all about the people.

Fast paced sci-fi read!
I read this book really fast. I bought into the characters and the storyline. Would recommend. I kind of felt like the ending didn’t really wrap up the book 1 plot line, instead it left a lot of action on the table for the sequel. But I guess I’ll read book 2 to continue the story.

Sci-fi Thriller
This is a fairly typical sci-fi military type thriller except for the setting. The main part of the book is a hide and seek chase through a huge vertical city on an over crowded Earth in the far future.

Just did not work for me. Written with a lack of quality. Dialogue was a bit puerile. Life is too short to finish this when i still have not read all the greats in sci fi. No price (free) is small enough to continue. Might suit a young reader?

November 11, 2020This is the story of the Saito family, the Oblivion Cult and a war between Earth and the AIC. There is a lot going on in this story. Ben and his father are both in the military and are estranged. His mother, the only one who acted as a buffer between them has been killed in an attack by the Oblivian cult. His father is dealing with his grief the only way he knows how, by doing his duty and leading the peace mission to the AIC in the most advanced warship ever built with the understanding if he can't bring peace, that he finishes the war.
I read the review that said it was not a good story with mispellings and names changing in the middle. I did not see any of that. I have read a lot of science fiction over the last 50 years and I thought this was a very good story and would recommend it to those who like to read a good military science fiction story with an excellent plot that does not rely on graphic x-rated scenes to tell a story. I have all 8 books in the story and plan on reading every one of them as this book grabbed my imagination and I want to know what happens next.
I recommend the story as I thought it was a good story.

The UEF's newest, biggest and baddest warship on its maiden voyage to meet with the enemy and discuss terms to end their war. Lead by Captain Lee Saito, the dreadnought Atlas was top of the line, brand new with all the bells and whistles. Meanwhile, his son, Ben, was getting into trouble on the way to their nifty new spaceship, the Lost. Both father and son are heading into danger.
Good characters, great action and a storyline covering known to unknown space. This is a good read.

I finished the first book in the series and got part-way through the second.
There's no rhyme or reason for the aliens/monsters to attack. Their ability to change shapes of themselves and their star ships is a bit problematic for me. Then there was the point in the second book where the aliens blew up the power plants, which apparently powered gravity generators, w;hich resulted in people floating upward from the planet...
Does the author not know how gravity works?
I'd usually give 2 stars or fewer to books I didn't finish, but all-in-all it's not written poorly, just a bad plot.

Intriguing Military Sci-Fi Thriller!
This fast paced drama is the first book and a great start to this creative new series. A wonderful combination of complex characters, family drama, a terrorist cult, aliens, military battles, treachery, along with a lot of backstory kept me interested. I can't wait to read the next book. Enjoy!

Wow!
This was a very exciting story with scary shape-shifting aliens and space battles. There was plenty of hand to hand fighting as well. I really enjoyed this book and will read more by this author. The length was perfect also, not too short yet also not too long as to drag along in the slower parts. Well told!

What a wonderful story. There's conflict between father and son, friendship on board the UEF Atlas, spies on board the UEF Atlas, and outright enemies looking to destroy the UEF, the Atlas and outright enemies looking to destroy the UEF, the Atlas and the Sanctuary space station. And who is really an Earthling and who is part of the Oblivion wanting everyone to see the Abyss? This was such a fantastic story written by two great authors. Thanks to Joshua James and Daniel Young for delivering another wonderful tale. Can't wait to start the next book to see how the UEF prevails.

A mildly entertaining read. Nothing particularly unique; the first volume of a space opera, 'us against hostile aliens' science fiction series. That being said, it's still a nice easy read for fans of the genre.

Book 1
Book 1 was an interesting read and had a few errors. The plot was a little slow and not as exciting as I would have preferred. The characters are okay and do not have a lot of depth to them. I did enjoy the overall book and look forward to book 2.

Good Story.
I enjoyed reading Lost Mission. There was a lot of action but the details were kept vague. I am getting ready to read book 2. Hoping that there is a little more character backstory to add to the depth that Lost Mission hinted at. Give Lost Mission a try.

A short story series.
This is a novella, a quick read. If you don't mind an action packed quickly then this is for you. Me, I've got right more of these so I'm going to hussle through this and read the next in the series.

Well written, exciting tale of non-stop action and a truly horrific alien enemy. However, there are many loose ends left hanging with no satisfactory ending. I prefer books that don’t try to force me to buy more books just to hear the rest of the story.

This was interesting. While it is definitely influenced by the last 2 decades of scifi, it tells a good story and is definitely recommended.

Fun monster story

Pretty good storyline. Beginning was a bit awkward, but the pieces began to fit together .

I got all nine books for free on Amazon a couple of weeks ago (Wow!). So I decided to start reading and I found that book one was a very good military (space opera) science-fiction affair. The writing team does a great job an easy-to-read style and great pacing. The story is well though out and the tension is solid throughout. A short book (always a plus for me) that was good enough to make me read the other height in the near future.
