Kaguya is the vice president of their prestigious academy’s student council and she's in love with, Miyuki, the president, and he with her! BUT both are well aware that in love there is always a winner... and neither wants to be the "loser!" As both are geniuses and quite proud they spend each day laying in wait for an opportunity to get the other to confess without losing face... only Chika, their secretary and Ishigami, their treasurer, seem ready to innocently mess up their careful machinations.
We’re being teased with this volume! Miyuki is sick of waiting for Kaguya to confess. Someone is feeling the pressure, this is what we’ve been waiting for! And we learn why Miyuki can’t wait any longer... and it’s a doozy of a reason. Now Kaguya needs to feel the pressure too...
While we wait for Kaguya to get a clue we see the hidden sides of Ino, Ishigami and Hayasaka. And boy is it funny! I love how far Ino and Ishigami’s relationship has come. And seeing this different side showcases their future. It’s not what you’d expect from their history. And Chika really is such a catalyst! Hayasaka goes way out of her way to protect her relationship with a Kaguya. You’d think Kaguya’s BFF would know about Ai, but no that’s not how rich people work.
This student council crew is such fun. Life is a battle and sometimes we lose and sometimes we win, but if we’re in the right company any difficulty is worth it. And Miyuki and Kaguya’s reactions are so outrageous that you want them to delay confessing so you can hang out with them all. No character is neglected in this manga and the reader wins because of it.
I love the art in this series. It heightens the competition between our characters while also giving each character moments to shine. The paper version is even better! This is totally a series you need to pick up to see how funny, moving and gorgeous it is.
Kaguya-sama: Love is War vol 11 reveals secrets that changes how we see the student council. And Miyuki is feeling the pressure. It’s now or never for this over achievers’ love!
How is this series simultaneously fucking hilarious yet bawl-my-eyes-out heartwarming?! I don't know if I've said this before, but I'm pretty sure this is my favorite rom-com and this volume solidified that. Highlights include:
-Ino and Ishigami trying to become friends with help from Osaragi and Shirogane's plan. Oh my gosh, I burst out laughing so much during this chapter, the artwork and the scenarios were fucking hilarious!
-Hayasaka having to cross-dress because of Kaguya's demands and getting revenge by giving ridiculous answers to Chika's questions. You can tell Hayasaka has worked with Kaguya for so long, she knows how to adapt to her AND how to spite her. Love their dynamic!
-Shirogane wanting to improve his rapping. That whole chapter was FUCKING GOLD. Considering the "Chika having to help Shirogane" scenario has been a running gag throughout the series, I'm amazed it hasn't gotten old for me, but this might be the best one yet. Rather than start off with Chika helping him, he ends up teaching Chika rap so that she can EVENTUALLY teach him in return. A subtle change that made the scenario so much more enjoyable and freshened up a long-time running gag. Speaking of the rap chapters...
-Hayasaka rapping about how hard her life has been with Kaguya was heartfelt and heartbreaking. When the series dives into it's more serious topics, it dives in and doesn't stop til it reaches the bottom. Even though this was small in comparison to the heavier moments in the series, it's poignant because while Hayasaka has lashed out at Kaguya in the past, this is the first time she's lashing out over the collective damage Kaguya has done to her. And again, while the damage isn't life-threatening, it's still pain that Kaguya has inadvertently caused because of her selfishness. I'm glad that they were able to work it out (really does show how close they are) and I'm grateful for the scene as a whole. It's moments like those that make this more than a repetitive rom-com.
-That final chapter. Humorous and heartbreaking. What is going to become of my beloved couple and the Student Council?!
This was a great volume! The humor was consistent, there were some genuinely heartfelt moments, and the artwork/art style was PHENOMENAL. I can't wait to see where this series goes, I love it so much!
Miyuki coming to Chika to learn isn't exactly the most convincing thing in the world, but it was still funny, especially Chika's initial response to Miyuki when he first comes to her for help.
There's even a little bit of a thematic thread going, with the idea of "personae" and honesty coming into play in relation to Hayasaka. Will Miyuki be convinced to express his true feelings for Kaguya? Probably not for a while.
The one where Miyuki Shirogane learns how to rap 😎 without horrifying everyone lol and somehow teaching Chika Fujiwara how to first even though he was horrendous at it!
I like how some chapters focus more on Yu Ishigami, he’s got a lot of character development lately and it’s making me appreciate him more. Why did it feel like at times that him being in a relationship with Miko Ino would happen quicker than the main characters somehow, even though that was quickly nipped in the bud it seems.
This volume ended with a date when Miyuki is preparing to finally confess his feelings to Kaguya - will this actually happen though!?
5 Stars for my favourite master of disguise, and cover-girl of this volume, Ai Hayasaka. 💖

Wrong volume. I will adBook: Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, Vol. 11 Author: Aka Akasaka Rating: 4 Out of 5 Stars
I am still having such a great time following these characters throughout their days. I don’t know, but sometimes the simpler stories just bring me so much joy and happiness. Sometimes the slower pace and little bits of joy is what makes me what to keep going with a series.
This volume is no different. We are seeing the characters start to grow and consider what their next steps are going to be. This doesn’t come out until the last couple of chapters in the volume, but I did like the way the author did it. I like that our characters are growing and maturing. This is one of the tew volumes in the series that I can say does have a cliffhanger. The way it sits up for the next volume does have me reaching for it, which I think my library does have. I guess that what I am getting at is that I like that the author is giving us these changes and allowing the characters to not only become their own person, but form their own voice. Seeing these little changes in our core cast is what keeps me reading.
The little moments and interactions that we get between characters only keeps adding to the story. We get to see them learn and try new things, improve on themselves, and looking to extend on what they know. We see them branching out and becoming these almost new people. Now, the core beliefs are still there and core ideas, but they are changing. I guess that I just like the character growth and development that we are getting in this series.
The artwork only adds to the overall experience. We see how the bonds are forming and getting stronger. The facial expressions are perfect for the story. I love how much emotion is packed into each panel. To me, it is more so the art that sells me this manga than anything.
Overall, I am still having a great time with this series. The set up for the next volume does have me reaching for it. I cannot wait to see what happens next. d my review once I finish it.
There is no kaguya volume I don’t love and this one is not the exception. I like to see more of the relation between Ino and Yu I feel they could have something but also there is Tsubame whose I’m sure we’re going to see more in the next vol as is in the cover lol. Hayasaka was the highlight of this vol an I mean she is in the cover so it make sense. I just love her and his four versions as Haki and I like that she gets more protagonist I feel she is becoming as important as the main characters and the rap ch was simple hilarious. Maki is another really fun character i like it more than the girl with the boyfriend and I hope she gets to confess but that’s asking for too much in this series haha. The las two ch were awesome 110 was so relatable with the hole otaku and anime them and the 111 was funny and it sets up the story for the next vol but I have no idea why is going to happen while Miyuki finally confess?
This was an especially hilarious volume, with these disaster characters causing more mayhem. First, there's a whole thing about read notifications - Kaguya, smartphone newbie that she is, doesn't know about read notifications on Line, which causes some hilarious speculation on Shirogane's part, as he tries to confirm if she was, indeed, staring at the chat screen for 2 hours, instead of replying (she was). Hayasaka comes to her rescue that time. Later on a sleepover with Chika (during which Hayasaka cross-dresses as a butler) there's a whole misunderstanding generated that leads to a confusing meeting when Shirogane wants to rap out his feelings. And yes, it was as much of a laugh as all of Shirogane's attempts to learn a new skill with Chika's help! I honestly love this duo!
Another duo that I love is Ishigami and Kaguya, as the former tries to live up to the latter's expectations of him in academic success - which, well, let's just say, gave me some feels. He and Ino are also a nice enemies-to-friends duo, and Shirogane tries to make them get along with some ludicrous exercises! And Maki coming to Shirogane and Ishigami for friendship/love advice was the cherry on the cake, especially when she cheekily tells Kaguya about her new male friends! There's also a whole meta discussion about 'moe' by Chika which was truly this manga taking the opportunity to drag itself. And we finally find out Kashiwagi's boyfriend's name!
Overall, this one is just a bundle of laughs!
Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review from Viz Media LLC, via Edelweiss.
The idea that the student council will graduate and go separate ways makes me sad, i'm not gonna lie. They are all just so silly and sweet and I care for them a lot. Also Shirogane is gonna confess!!
The storyline line of Kaguya trying to help Ishigami get into the top 50 for the exam scores was really sweet. I really like that they are friends now.
And Maki, Ishigame, and Shirogane all being lovesick and heartbroken at the idea of their crush being with someone else, but still being too chicken to actually confess their feelings is cute. I really like their friendship
Also, I really like Shirogane and Hayasaka's friendship and the part where she honestly says how hard it is revolving her life around Kaguya and constantly being her armor and not having time to live her life for herself. I'm happy she got to say that to Kaguya's face and I'm happy that her responsibilities will be lighter in the spring. I hope she gets to make more friends that she can be herself with.

A year ago, when I made the jump from One Punch Man to Spy x Family, I claimed that the latter felt like astronomically good bang for your buck in comparison to OPM's never-ending Monster Association arc and inconsequential battle scenes. I would now like to make the leap again. It's often remarked upon that sitcom writers are forced to become adept at economy of storytelling - elegantly cramming multiple stories into 20 minute chunks - and Love is War continues this ruthless efficiency in Manga form. Every chapter is a masterclass in compact storytelling without sacrificing the flourishes of character that make a story worth falling in love with in the first place. It's staggering how much ground is covered in a single Volume, so let's breakdown the highlights thusly:
Kaguya vs Read Receipts As someone with measurable texting anxiety, this scenario is one of the most inspired modern-day sitcom duels I've had the pleasure of reading. The pointless minutiae of instant messaging is brought to diabolical life as Kaguya utterly fails to understand the semantics of instant read receipts, and in doing so almost gives Shirogane a clear path to victory. Watching Miyuki turn into a Bond villain, only to be brought back down to Earth by Hayasaka's scheming is a fucking delight, but I mostly loved this chapter purely for drawing attention to how the tiniest mechanics of texting can be a recipe for nervousness in the hands of an over thinker. The chapter also caps off with a discord joke that made me howl so, you know, good work Love is War.
Kaguya wants sleep, dammit A small chapter, but one that introduces us to Hayasaka's cross-dressing double with Haski - an important development that is handled with a surprising amount of restraint and respect considering it also has to serve as the comedic basis for one of Fujiwara's more gobsmacking misunderstandings. Watching Fujiwara's head spin as the mistakes Shirogane and Hayasaka's texting for possible gay romantic interest is very funny, but the real joy of this chapter is in getting to see a pleasantly chaotic rendering of high-school sleepovers: ones full of romantic gossip and late-night interrogation calls, which fucking takes me back to my secondary school days, let me tell you.
Miyuki raps God I didn't know what to make of this in the anime - it's just a lot to take in in such a short amount of time. Surprisingly, it works better in tankobon format, which offers you the space to absorb and process the madness that unfolds in front of you. I don't think Hayasaka's confession is quite as story-defining as it perhaps should be, given that events largely proceed as they were once the rap battle is over, but it's an important moment nonetheless. Also, maybe I'm misremembering, but the translation of Fujiwara's deranged verse has a less homophobic slant than in the anime??? Very minor in the grand scheme of things, but it does make her rap contribution much funnier as a result, where as in the anime it was just kind of perplexing.
Manga is good, actually I don't think Battle 110 was adapted for the TV show, but given the subject matter I think that works in its favour. This is part-advert for the Shonen Jump app, part treatise on the embarrassment of nerds, and part defence of loving manga as a medium. None of it should work. Somehow it does. Utter madness. What a thing of beauty.
Those are just my highlights - recapping everything on a blog that nobody reads would just be an act of utter self-flagellation. It tells you how much I like this series that I was tempted to do it anyway. The TV show is one of the few programs that has actually made me yell at the screen, and I'm thrilled to discover that the manga does the same. Just me, sat alone in my flat, howling at a book. Now I am become weeb.
Chapter 102: Kaguya Doesn't Realize - The Cellphone Arc continues and I'm a happy kid, at least in the first chapter. Kaguya doesn't know about read-receipts. Oh god, it's like telling my parents technology related stuff. Haha.
Chapter 103: Miyuki Shirogane Wants to Mediate - Miko and Yu being forced to be friendly? Not bad. Not bad at all. Taking precious time away from Shirogane-Kaguya? Very very bad.
Chapter 104: Kaguya Shinomiya's Impossible Challenge: "The Swallow's Cowry" (Part 1) - Yu has a crush on Tsubame. Hmm. That does negate my theory about a possible enemies-to-lovers romance between him and Miko. But, am I interested? Nooooo!
Chapter 105: Yu Ishigami Wants to Answer - Exams are boring. And so was this chapter about exam time. Couldn't there be a little bit about study group and Shirogane-Kaguya? Come onnnn! Give me something! I'm dyinggg heere!
Chapter 106: Chika Fujiwara Wants to Sleep Over - Sleepovers? Fun. Calling your friends and possible crushes at night? Even more fun. Pestering Shirogane about his crush???? Ohmygod I'm in heaven.
Chapter 107: Chika Fujiwara Wants to Keep the Beat - Fujiwara wastes an entire chapter, hogging time away from the characters I am interested in.
Chapter 108: Ai Hayasaka Wants to Say Something - So much time wasted on Rap Battles? And that too NOT a rap about Shirogane confessing his love to Kaguya? What is even happening here? I DO NOT like this!!!
Chapter 109: Maki Shijo Wants to Ask for Help - Maki I swear I'll hit you. Leave Shirogane alone so he can have time to do what's more important!!! Like spend time with Kaguya!!!
Chapter 110: Yu Ishigami Wants to Talk - Bleh.
Chapter 111: The Student Council Wants to Advance - Future plans. But solely about education and career. So, again. Bleh.
This series is fucking hysterical. Volume 11 is a perfect example of why. It moves away from the usual mind games between Miyuki and Kaguya to focus on side characters and their own absurd struggles, and it’s all the better for it.
The Phone plot is genius. Kaguya's genuine lack of understanding about the "read" receipt on her new smartphone is so perfect for her character. She sees it as a move in a new kind of love war, a way to trap Miyuki, but her complete naivety about modern technology makes it a comedic masterpiece. It’s hilarious to watch her and her maid, Hayasaka, go through a whole tactical back-and-forth about something so simple.
Also the rap part was LOLTASTIC
Everything in this volume, from Kaguya's phone struggles to the beginning of Ishigami's character arc, is just super fun and silly. The humor is always on point, and the series continues to find new ways to make me laugh out loud. I always have a blast just sitting back and reading this series, and this volume is no exception. It's a fantastic continuation that proves the series has a lot more to offer than just its central romance.
Hit or miss in terms of the writing - I didn’t love the whole section on Kaguya figuring out Line, but the focus on how much work Hayasaka has to put in dealing with her through the volume is pretty great, including a perfect deadpan one-liner in the last chapter.
Normally the writing is my favorite thing, but this time the art steals the show. There are no shortage of amazing panels in here - one chapter has the most violent and perfect shots of the Pocky game going horribly awry. The reaction shots (Fujiwara’s in particular) during the rap story are even better.
However, one understated and not played for titillation in ANY way, yet still unquestionably a boob shot towards the end is one of the best delivered jokes I’ve ever read in a manga just for sheer subtlety. That made the whole volume for me.

This one hits a nice mix of emotional moments and comedy. Between Yu being overwhelmed by trying to study harder and Miyuki rap battling in an effort to express himself, this volume has it all. It also features a hint things will be changing. Will it be for the best? Only time will tell.
Learning.....to rap!!! I never knew that would consume the pages of Kaguya-sama, but here we are. The stories in this volume are enjoyable and fun. More of what you like of the series. Aka Akasaka delivers another fun volume that reads quickly but keeps you smiling and very entertained.
Hm. Tough call. It started out really great, trailed a little in the middle, but the revelation(s) at the end were great and added an unknown sense of urgency. Gotta keep reading!
It feels like something has to give soon in the series, but yet I'm not sure If I want them to confess or get together yet or continue this back and forth!
