Greg Rucka, is an American comic book writer and novelist, known for his work on such comics as Action Comics, Batwoman: Detective Comics, and the miniseries Superman: World of New Krypton for DC Comics, and for novels such as his Queen & Country series.
Going to be a long wait until July, when this second series concludes. I will zip thru issues 2 to 4 very quickly. When does the Netflix series start? Got to research this. Love this series!
An action-packed return of our team of immortals or almost immortals we see somewhat, the history of Andy and it was awesome. Also loved reading the letter by Greg Rucka.
I have always loved comics, and I hope that I will always love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics or Diamond Comics or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on the international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I can. I Love comics to bit, may comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.
i'd like to say that the 4 stars rating is bc of the storyline, or rather the introduction of this next storyline... but it really really isn't. I mean, it's interesting! Not sure how i feel about being thrown into something and as quickly as that being thrown out again, and that's why i can't give it 5, but the art is better, in my humble humble not asked and not profissional in the slightest opinion... But the reason I'm giving it 4 stars is bc of that ending note, because of the whole "i realised i was writing about the necessity of death" bc that's it! I was drawn to this story bc i was always interested about disproving the "great dream" called imortality. I hate it, bc i know we need to die to actually live in the present, and he did it, Greg Rucka put the words i needed in the paper even without actually writing it. So yeah, imma stop talking now
(Guess who just decided to read all current issues of The Old Guard in one sitting? Oh yes, it's me)
What an opening! There are some confusing things though, mainly about the gang and the things they've been up to. But the part about Booker was exciting and it definitely draws curiosity (also because it's in the movie lol)
2.5 stars and rounding up. The art was ok and the writing a little weak.
I like the concept of the immortal warrior, but it has some drawbacks. This issue was mostly flashbacks and car chases and not much character development. Writing a 6,500 year old character is hard. They should either have seen everything several times over, or be a bit of a drooling burnout. Rucka seems to have gone for the middle ground and I'm not sure it will work.
Coming into this after watching the movie then after reading the first series, there isn't much that stands out in this issue. Then there's the Returning Fire segment at the end & Greg Rucka's words there are what get right to the heart of this whole world that he has created & the reason why it's resonating with so many people. That insight into him thinking of & telling this story has elevated it, in my opinion, from something good to something that I just flippin LOVE.
Omg, girl heists woohoo! Wait, Noriko is that you? This issue kept me on my toes and ended because I even realized what was going on, what a wild ride!
